Overall rating:
What we like
  • All-in-one design means you don't need to faff about with liners (though our tester Zanna found that she needed these for the extra protection)

  • One size fits from newborn to toddler age

  • Poppers offer adjustability and are more durable than velcro fastenings

  • Waterproof outer in an excellent range of patterns

What we don't like
  • Some users claim that the sizing can run small for some toddlers

  • Zanna found that the absorbency deteriorated a bit after extensive use

How we tested Bambino Mio Revolutionary Reusable Nappies

Mum-of-one Zanna tested out the Bambino Mio Revolutionary Reusable nappies over a period of more than six months (and counting!) from when her daughter was 12 months onwards. During this time she used these nappies alongside several other popular reusable nappy brands (Mother-ease, Little Lamb, Kit & Kin, Baba + Boo and Littles & Bloomz) and compared each one carefully on a number of important factors including absorbency, sizing, ease of washing, bulkiness and overall value for money.

The instructions on these nappies were really clear on how to wash and what to do before first using, etc.

Are Bambino Mio Revolutionary Nappies bulky?

"I've found all reusable nappies to be generally a lot bulkier than standard disposible nappies," said Zanna. "This is definitely worth considering when you are choosing your baby's clothes, consider sizing up or using vest extenders."

How absorbent are the nappies?

"I found that all the reusable nappies I used needed a booster above what came with them - though my daughter does drink a lot of water and can go for quite a long time between wees, meaning the volume can be quite large."

I found the Bambino Mio Revolutionary Nappies to be amazing at first, but over time they did start to leak more and more. I think they perhaps struggled to cope with bigger wees so I would advise parents to bear this in mind when considering them.

Do Bambino Mio Revolutionary Nappies leak?

"All the reusable nappies I've tried have leaked at some point," explained Zanna. "However this has only been with liquids, never poo, which was a big problem with conventional disposable nappies."

I found the Bambino Mio nappies to be really great at first, but they did leak more over time when my daughter started doing bigger wees. We mostly use them at home now.

How do Bambino Mio Revolutionary Nappies compare with other reusable nappies?

"These nappies are a lot better than the Baba + Boo, Littles & Bloomz and Little Lamb Pocket Nappies I've used in the past. However I didn't rate them as highly as the Little Lamb, Kit & Kin and Mother-ease Wizard Uno nappies in terms of absorbency and leak-proof efficiency."

How do Bambino Mio Revolutionary Reusable Nappies compare to disposable nappies?

"I love that they are so much more environmentally friendly to use than disposables. They are also so much better at containing poo leakages. I found disposables leaked regularly, particular in car seats and the pram. I think this is due to pressure from the straps as well as wriggling. I do still use disposables on occasion because they are so much more convenient and last longer between changes."

What's your favourite thing about these nappies?

"They're very easy to use and are nice and soft against the skin. I also like the cute designs and the choice you get with these."

Are Bambino Mio Revolutionary Nappies good value for money?

All reusable nappies are more expensive than disposables initially, but you can often find good deals on Vinted or Facebook Marketplace for unused or minimally used ones.

Why did you decide to use reusable nappies?

"I use reusable nappies because of the environmental impact of disposables. If we have a second child we'll definitely use reusable nappies from birth."

Overall verdict

"I found the Bambino Mio Revolutionary Nappies to be brilliant at first. However, for us, they did begin to lose their absorbency over time and for this I didn't score them as highly as some of the other reusable nappies I tested. My daughter does do big wees though and there is definitely an element of find what works for the individual when it comes to using reusable nappies, so other parents may well think differently."

Finally, we asked Zanna to rate the Bambino Mio Revolutionary Reusable Nappies for the following factors:

Softness:
Absorbency:
Ease of use:
Leak-proof:
Value for money:

Why you should trust us

All Mumsnet Baby & Child product reviews are written by real parents after months of stringent testing. We work hard to provide honest and independent advice you can trust – brands can’t pay to be featured in our articles or win a Mumsnet Best award.

We spend hours researching, speaking to parents, analysing data and listening to experts before we test out the products on our shortlist. Transparency is really important to us and that's why we're always upfront about how we tested the products we recommend. We won't always recommend the cheapest products, or the ones with the most extra features. We write about products that we feel offer the best value to most parents – the ones we'd recommend to our own friends and family.

There's no incentive for us to be lazy with our research or in our testing process. There's no reason for us to respond to pressure from retailers or brands trying to promote new products. It's actually quite the opposite and we think it's a good system, one that keeps us focused on making parents lives' easier. We hope it helps you.
