No worries, I have probably gone a bit sideways with some of my answers as it’s all getting a bit about the same thing!

UK is always going to be home, having been away from the UK and hearing daily from friends and family there, I can see the problems more. Saying that no where is perfect there will always be compromises.

I wouldn’t call it greed no, people want better for themselves and this is one place in the world that offers that opportunity

Everyone knows: that whatever you save in taxes - you spend on living in Dubai.

You clearly haven’t lived there long enough to understand that.

The Dubai lifestyle ensures that money saved, in taxes, is put back straight into the economy.

Unless you’re living a frugal lifestyle- in which case you’d stick out like a sore thumb in the ex pat community- then you won’t be saving much of anything.

Migrants to Dubai who save money- often live in shared flats and don’t live a particularly glamorous lifestyle.

How can you be all for inclusion when you choose to bring your children up in a country that isn't for inclusion in any way. You are just in it for the money (and its not even you earning the money). What principles are you teaching your DC?

I don’t disagree, our primary reason for being here is for tax free so yes in it for the money, I stated this on the first question of our reasons for moving here.

We are able to provide our children and ourselves with an excellent life and future.

Thats a sweeping statement, you underestimate our wealth and lifestyle

Also, if you don’t use help in Dubai’s then you’re judged by ex - pats as not being able to afford the lifestyle.

The problem is with all our posts is that we're underestimating her wealth and lifestyle folks!!

You live in the very unstable ME bit don't think you'll ever need FO assistance?

ME has been unstable for decades, I don’t think we will need any assistance

Fair, I shouldn’t highlight how the British media portray the country with such doom and gloom on a daily basis.

But yes I have a home in the UK, family and friends

Did you work in the uk? Do you intend to work on your return?

No dear, clearly if you’re moving to save on taxes then you’re someone that doesn’t have a vast amount of wealth.

The wealthy have people to ensure there are systems where they don’t have to pay much tax. It’s the ordinary folks who move to Dubai because they think it will make them rich.

Its tacky place for tacky people and ex pats will see straight through you not being able to afford hired help . EVERYONE in the expat community has multiple people working in their homes.

The Financial Times is reporting today that private jet fees are soaring as people scramble to leave Saudi. The same happened earlier in the year with Dubai.

Will you be able to afford private jets to come home if it hits the fan?

Or quite possibly not supporting that so called modern slave labour, who knows!

the reality is I don’t need the help, I don’t work, raise our family and enjoy doing so. I don’t need an unqualified stranger living with us to not do the job properly that I enjoy doing anyway!

If you’re not working surely it’s less “we” and more your husband providing that excellent lifestyle.

what happens if you split?

Absolutely yes and doesn’t need to be to the UK, plenty of other countries we can fly to if need be

This thread is pointless.

Anyone who can ignore or look past the many problems with Dubai to move out there in the first place is not going to have a balanced view on, or care about, things like slave labour and criminal working conditions, illegal homosexuality, inequality for women, living somewhere with one of the highest carbon footprints in the world etc.

In my experience, most people who live there care about themselves only and have an "I'm alright Jack" type personality. They don't care that gay people are persecuted or workers die or that the ruler of Dubai is such a horrendous person that his own wife and children have fled him, he's been accused of murder, slavery of THOUSANDS of children, kidnapping, intimidation, corruption.

Would you say that rings true to you OP? If not how do you square your conscience?

bigfacthunter · 20/10/2026 12:12

britindubai · 20/10/2026 07:35

The UAE is a Muslim country, why on earth would they support something that goes against their religion?

There is a difference between “not supporting” something and jailing people for being themselves.

PistachioTiramisu · 20/10/2026 12:13

Poor OP - she came on to answer questions about Dubai and has roundly been criticised and laughed at. I praise her and her family for having the gumption to try to make something of themselves and earn as much money as they can in a different country. I have been to Dubai on many occasions and love the place. Good for you, OP!

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 20/10/2026 12:13

Could you answer my question "Do you own your own home in the UK and does someone live in and manage it whilst you're away?"

I raise the family and do all house and life admin, we are a team. Without me doing this my husband can’t do what he does. We won’t split but god forbid we ever did I would be very comfortable

Then you’ll stick out like a sore thumb in the ex pat community-

  • They think that you think you’re morally superior and don’t fit in with them
  • They will gossip that you can’t afford help and don’t fit in with them

Everyone in the ex pat community uses help

Quite envious of you OP tbh, if we were younger I think we would do it too.

my question. Is it very transient-are most people staying for a couple of years, or are many planning a long term stay?

Sadly you are very misinformed

half of my friends have help and half don’t, we all get along

Wow. How to miss the point of a whole question.
the question was about how YOU feel about the country’s homophobic attitudes , not asking you to explain why the country is homophobic
