My overall feeling about the thread is…

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!

OP posts:
Waitingfordoggo · 21/10/2026 18:25

Well that is not an example of sarcasm so we’re all good 😂

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!

You misunderstand sarcasm. Sarcasm is a form of verbal irony where a speaker says the opposite of what they actually mean to mock, ridicule, or express contempt.

gudetamathelazyegg · 21/10/2026 18:26

if everyone has come away with the same impression, OP, what does that say? That's all really. You love Dubai, you hate the UK, you make loads of money, you hate taxes but will happily come back to benefit from taxpayer services, human rights and free speech. Cool.

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 21/10/2026 18:26

britindubai · 21/10/2026 18:21

Please read through it all again

Especially this post.

Haha ok, I think you would weep a little if you saw my bank balance.

OhTheCowsInTheMeadowGoMoo · 21/10/2026 18:06

@mateysmum actually makes a fascinating insight, and wish she'd have done the AMA instead.
It seems more honest an account.
Not the Op's "I'm considerably richer than YOW" (think Harry Enfield lol) tone and just a chance to slag off the UK.
Not really an AMA at all

I'm nowhere near brave enough

britindubai · 21/10/2026 18:28

Edited

Oh please do explain exactly what you are referring to using the slang phrase Chinny Reckon?

Yep. Well done op!

But that is out of context and I haven’t repeatedly said it

OP posts:
Gloriia · 21/10/2026 18:31

I'd rather people were honest and said 'while I'm loaded I feel a bit guilty using services I have not contributed towards when we holiday in the UK to escape Dubai's horrid humidity and heat in the summer. What can I do to escape these feelings of taking the piss, voluntary work maybe?'

britindubai · 21/10/2026 18:32

its a ‘sarcastic’ phrase of not believing what someone has said 🙄

OP posts:
gudetamathelazyegg · 21/10/2026 18:32

It's not that you're repeatedly saying about your bank balance - it's that it's even something you thought to say. All the other things you've said about income, money, property etc. It's gauche. Flashy. Materialistic.

everyone?

I don’t hate the UK, I do pay tax (better start using the phrase ‘we’ more) we have property in the UK and Europe.

What taxpayer services are you referring to that I benefit from?

Yes all very sad.

Not to mention vulgar and simplistic. Frankly, I suspect that the majority of people couldn't care less what salary your DH is on. Why would we care when we don't know you, or whether what you say is even true?

Chinny Reckon 😁 Not heard that for years. That's not an example of sarcasm, it means they think you're fibbing 😁

britindubai · 21/10/2026 18:37

BIossomtoes · 21/10/2026 18:34

That’s right.

And I stated that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit - a cheap, lazy, or unkind way to be funny. Critics view it as low-brow because it relies on mocking or belittling others rather than genuine cleverness, observation, or originality.

The point is exactly?

Well no. If I was being sarcastic I would post a meme that said ‘I believe you’ 😂

Honestly is it the Dubai mindset. We can only hope they get their kids out before they grow up to be 'property developers' counting their wodges while dodging tax.

Roads, the airport you fly into, street lights, police, emergency health care - I can’t be arsed to type any more but you get the picture.
