If a friend mocked you, would you want to continue the friendship?

If they'd called you 'boring' 'granny' behind your back and said 'I've realised we're very different' 'stresshead' and because you'd said something innocuous such as 'you didn't like spending all day at the beach' they'd twisted this and said 'omg, she said she doesn't like going to the beach wtf!' Then mimicked your voice in front of you in a high-pitched way.

Would you feel comfortable with this person and be able to trust them? It's the way they've acted like this rather than just speaking to your face if there is an issue. Mocking behind your back and calling you names isn't great.

Clearly you don't want to continue being friends with this person and that is fine. I personally would be more suspicious of the friend telling you this stuff though. Bear in mind people usually don't make comments in a vacuum.

Of course you wouldn’t continue being friends with them. Consider they are the comments you know about, they’ve likely said more in the past. You deserve better.

You won't trust them again plus what sort of friend says those things? I would just do a slow fade and cut contact.

No, they aren't your friend. Life is too short to waste time and energy on people who aren't going to love you for who you are.

Who told you this, are they trying to cause trouble between you? For all you know they baited the friend into saying things. But still it's not great.
Friends can mock each other if it's lighthearted and goes both ways. Nasty comments are not acceptable though.

Well you can't trust them to not bitch about you behind your back then. Anyway, this is a frenemy, not a friend. Don't think of them as a friend at all, just somebody you happen to know.

No, not if it kept on happening as you describe. I might forgive one comment as a joke that misfired - sometimes things sound harsher than you expect when you say them - but repeatedly making sneering comments, no.

If this is all proven and the truth, then I think most people wouldn't want to continue what wouldn't really be a friendship anyway. Friends don't belittle, bully or make fun of each other. This isn't a bit of good-natured banter, it's simply mean.

Friends build you up, your support, you enjoy each others company. This isn't it.

I'd imagine if that's how they behaved towards you they wouldn't be to bothered if the friendship ended.

You owe them nothing, so distance yourself and let your other friends find out what ex friend is really like.
