This is a weird thread, it's like some on here expected her to turn SuperMeghan and fight crime. She's an actress. If the police were aware (and they were because they were the ones who informed her) then there was no further action required from Meghan. She shouldn't have been told in the first place. What did the Met police do after sharing the info with her and the royal family (and who else).

She spoke up in detail about everything else including accusing the RF on racisim during the height of the BLM furore for maximum impact.

Why not this?

Onebigsham · Yesterday 09:41

Oh so poor and lazy journalism is also Meghan's fault?

Trivialising a serious estrangement and a potentially dangerous man with royal adjacency by fabricating a story is the fault of whom in this scenario? Why is the press to blame for not investigating a completely left field matter that was on nobody’s radar (except perhaps the odious son, whom we’ve seen is a consummate liar and racist hater of his sister). When that whom could have told everyone it’s a private matter and - from her position of immense clout and friendship with people in high places like Gavin Newsom - asked for the matter to be looked into behind the scenes in the jurisdiction where it was happening (which is not and never has been the UK).

Benjithedog · Yesterday 09:41

Douglasmummy · Yesterday 09:37

It's not really ' the public' is it? It's the small section of ' the public' and people on the RF board who are obsessed with Meghan Markle and how dreadful she is and how literally everything has to be her fault in some way.

I’d venture to say there are a lot of people
obsessed with Megan Markle a good percentage being her supporters as evidenced in this thread where some people were far more concerned about her feelings than those of the victims who seem to be an afterthought.

smilesy · Yesterday 09:41

Douglasmummy · Yesterday 09:17

So if you fibd out the police are ' investigating' something and they don't. it's your fault for not chasing it up? As said above, maybe she thought as the investigation had come to nothing, it either wasn't true or there was not enough evidence. Her father is still a nasty piece of work. He was selling stories to the papers, colluding with her brother and sister to make a career for all of them selling stories about her to the press. The sister sued her. In any case, why do you need to know if she followed it up or not? Why did the RF not chase it up? They were the ones with all the influence. They have a history of 'not knowing' about paedophiles in their midst and not only not querying investigations but defending them after conviction. Yet none of them, with all resources at their disposal were expected to even know about all their oaedo mates, never mind push for further investigation.

The Met police were not investigating because it was not in their jurisdiction. I don’t think any other police were investigating because whatever the letter was about it was sent directly to Meghan. The wider RF knew nothing about all this so why would they follow it up?

pressed post too soon

As Meghan herself said: silence is complicity. While numerous, trivial journalists have been chasing after TMsnr and treating him as one half of an (in effect) celebrity fall out, serious journalists could have been looking into his actual activities and why the RF exercises poor judgment in these matters. They weren’t though, because the explanation they were given by Meghan herself created a massive squirrel to chase.

Exactly.

We must draw our own conclusions on that.

But in her statement, she knew because she was shown a letter by the Met police who she has said told her it would be investigated. She clearly hasn't kept this to herself.

What else was she meant to do in this situation? If she is shown a letter by the Met police force then the onus is on them not Meghan to be investigating this and following up to the relevant authorities.

What do people mean she should be kicking up a fuss? She isn't responsible for any of this. We don't know what the outcome of the initial investigation was. It may be the allegations were found to not to be true at that point and if that's the case, what was Meghan have meant to have done.

"It may be the allegations were found to not to be true".

In which case she didn't know anything. So why announce she had known since 2018.

Talk about stretching the argument to extremes.

Silence is complicity?

You do know that if you speak up about an allegation of SA and it is proven wrong then the allegation still sticks to that person forever?

She most likely was waiting for TM to be charged like any sensible person would do.

Distract from her own family's secrets by throwing the RF under a bus.

Whoever in the comms team advised M to release that statement about the letter yesterday should be sacked. She should have made a brief comment that she was distressed but wouldn't be making any further comment at this stage. Then she could've taken a beat and made a much more considered statement in a few days that didn't cause more of a stir than the actual allegations against her dad. Instead of him being the story, she now is!

A brief statement would've gained her far more compassion. Instead, by raising the issue of the letter, everyone's now picking over the timeline of when it was sent, who it was sent to, who actually wrote it, why she continued to reach out to her dad afterwards etc. Suddenly copies of the letter are being wafted everywhere (Chris Ship claims he's seen it now), but there is no way would a potential witness to a crime – Meghan – have been allowed to make a copy of a potential piece of evidence in case it prejudiced future proceedings. It's basic police procedure. She would have been told about its contents, but no way would they have let her skip to the photocopier with it or made a copy themselves. Now, as a consequence of all the confusion, people are claiming she's probably faked the letter to distance herself from her dad's alleged crimes.

I can't imagine she would be that dumb (!), but if they hadn't fired off that knee-jerk statement, people wouldn't be asking the question. Why can't she and H ever keep their mouths shut?!!

valeriy2 · Yesterday 09:46

Some her will feign some borderline empathy for her with these revelations but barely disguised they hate her, really hate her with an almost demonic glee. It's truly disturbing.

8 years later...

@Onebigsham is right. She had the ear of Gavin Newsom. Its child abuse and potentially child rape. Why would you not do everything in your power to make sure he was investigated for something it seems he was actually doing. If it was because she was worrying about the damage to her reputation then she really is a weak individual who spouts hot air.

No. A SA case can take years to be investigated and charges brought.

TM may not have been deemed medically fit to be interviewed.

The investigation may have been paused during the pandemic.

And if there wasn’t enough evidence to charge TM at that point, but the suspicion remained, then MM would have been in a very difficult position.

I don’t support everything she does but people are deranged at this point.

So why make up a story in the meantime about the estrangement that set the world’s press down a completely different route for 8 years and resulted in numerous Markle sad face interviews and sympathy for him? What was this high profile feminist and self proclaimed defender of children, who said herself that silence is complicity, doing to follow up the matter while she was living in the jurisdiction where something could actually be done about it (because there’s nothing the UK authorities could do other than pass on this alleged letter). Why did she allow her husband to repeat the fabrication in his book 5 years later? She didn’t have to say anything publicly to anyone. Privately she had the power to do a lot. There’s no reason for her to have made allegations of SA in public, so that’s a big straw man right there.

He was medically fit to be interviewed. He's been doing plenty of interviews.

"And if there wasn’t enough evidence to charge TM at that point, but the suspicion remained, then MM would have been in a very difficult position.". Perhaps. But why redirect people away from the supposed real reason for the estrangement by making up stories on Oprah and Netflix. As usual they've talked too much and what they say is inconsistent.

8 years. Let's hope no child was abused by TM since 2018.

In 2018, they were that, allegations that had not been proved or disproved. If she had been assured by a POLICE FORCE that they were being looked into then of course she isn't going to have said anything. It would have been highly inappropriate to. It would have distracted from any on-going investigation.

Her father hadn't been found guilty of anything at that point. Her speaking out would have caused a witch hunt which we've all heard of and potentially caused her father to go God knows where or underground. It would have no positive impact on anything.

It is the police jobs responsibility to investigate these issues and it was clear that in 2018, the Met knew about this. What they did is what the focus needs to be on.oʻ

MM is one individual, connected to the case as a family member. She couldn’t be seen to be prejudicing an investigation in any way. If anything, she would have been advised to stay well out if it.

The RF covered up AMW’s alleged activities with vulnerable possibly trafficked women for years, despite being informed by diplomats and intelligence sources what was happening. Perhaps Meghan was under a great deal of pressure from them to keep quiet too?

Because by her statement she has announced to the world that she knew all along. If she hadn't done that people would not have known that she kept quiet or that she redirected attention from the real reason for the estrangement. Its clear why she made the announcement but it was for her own reasons of expediency and she didn't think it through

Id agree with you entirely if she hadnt announced she had known for years. But her statement has unfortunately put her in the know. And she kept quiet. I really hope no children were abused after 2018 becuase if she knew and TMs other children didn't, then she has the responsibility to kick up a fuss and not brush it under the carpet and make things up on Oprah and Netflix about the estrangement. It's people in positions of power and influence keeping quiet that helped Epstein.

In fact she misdirected attention to people thinking they were estranged due to pap shots. Not anything more awful.

Edited

She knew an allegation had been made. That no more puts her "in the know" than anyone else with a family member accused of a crime.

According to The Sun, which appears to be receiving briefings from the Sussexes, she was given legal advice not to discuss it publicly, which makes sense if she believed there was an ongoing investigation. No reasonable person would think she should tip off an alleged paedophile by publicly announcing that the police were investigating him.
