Where is the lie? Its possible to have more than one reason to cut off your Dad and there is plenty when it comes to Thomas. I don't find it weird she didn't go running to tell anyone in 201i when it was just a letter of accusation no substantial proof or evidence and after being told it was being investigated, naturally anyone would wait for that to conclude.

But she said she thought the Met would investigate. This shows another lack of knowledge or common sense about the law...like the Archbishop of Canterbury lie. Why would the Met investigate a US citizen not in the UK with no connection to the UK?

MM is supposed to be clever but I often think that just isnt true and shes a bit of a nitwit.

You're suggesting she cut her dad off for reasons other than his alleged paedophila. But why did she say now that she cut her dad off for one reason only and that was to protect her children. Children she didnt have in 2018 or when she cut him off.

That is one of the things we need to know. Who, when, what sort (a single line rumour or investigatable lead?) and what was done about bit

I find Harry and Meghan generally quite annoying but I do feel sympathy for her about this. It would be horrendous to discover this about her own father, regardless of their previous estrangement.

I agree, I'm normally last to defend them but I have enormous sympathy for her on this. I'm not sure how any of this is her fault or how she can be dragged into this mess.

None of us know when in 2018 the letter from the Met was shown to Meghan or what the contents were. And if she was assured the relevant authorities were looking into it, what else was she meant to do? We don't know what was advised to her or what the initial outcomes was.

SoI am not a fan of many things Meghan has done but in this case the only person to be demonised is her father if the allegations are correct. Meghan can't be held responsible for any of this.

It's also important that we don't forget the victims in this which is what happen when people start trying to spin stories over what she should and shouldn't have done.

I do not understand the unrelenting hatred and hostility towards Megan from some posters on here.

My theory is jealousy - they can't stand that she's wealthy, beautiful and married a prince.

Everything she does is wrong, she can't win.

Edited

No one is jealous of her. No one.

Meghan absolutely has no responsibility for what her father may have done (I’m phrasing it this way as he has not yet been charged or convicted).

I am struggling with the fact that she was made aware of something along these lines, 8 years ago, and settled with being “assured” that it was being looked in to. That doesn’t sit right, for me. She had/has way more resources available to her than your everyday person, I can’t believe she’d not want updates/press for further action. That’s 8 years for him to be doing god knows what. I’m not talking about her speaking publicly about it, but I am interested in whether she pushed for further info over the years or not.

There are a lot of questions that need answering here, not just from M:

When was the letter received by the Met (and was it dated)?
When did they inform M?
What did the Met do (if anything)?
Was TM left unchecked for 8 years - if so, why?
T Jr apparently called an FBI hotline over 3 months ago - why was there no follow up from them?
Given there was no follow-up, why didn’t he try another avenue?

Horrific situation, but relevant authorities really need to ramp up investigations asap.

So if you fibd out the police are ' investigating' something and they don't. it's your fault for not chasing it up? As said above, maybe she thought as the investigation had come to nothing, it either wasn't true or there was not enough evidence. Her father is still a nasty piece of work. He was selling stories to the papers, colluding with her brother and sister to make a career for all of them selling stories about her to the press. The sister sued her. In any case, why do you need to know if she followed it up or not? Why did the RF not chase it up? They were the ones with all the influence. They have a history of 'not knowing' about paedophiles in their midst and not only not querying investigations but defending them after conviction. Yet none of them, with all resources at their disposal were expected to even know about all their oaedo mates, never mind push for further investigation.

How many more times? Meghan herself put out THE narrative on why she wasn’t speaking to him - a fairly trivial matter of organised pap pictures, a matter that has looked more and more trivial as the years have gone on and Meghan’s own behaviour has been no better. She didn’t have to do that, she could have kept quiet about a private, family matter, but she did talk about it, as part of her lucrative media moan fest. Nobody made up HER explanation for why she cut him off. She and her husband also talk constantly about valuing family ties. She asked people to believe her words and value her accordingly, because media and public attention and credibility is what she desires. If the public and media listened to HER narrative and believed her and responded accordingly, then that is on HER. Second guessing that there must be some other (extreme and appalling) reason doesn’t cut it when the principle herself is the one giving out the information on massive, lucrative platforms that have been scrutinised (one would hope) for veracity like the Netflix doc and Harry’s book. Taken in the context of her warm and loving publicly available words about her father from her Tig days and her speech to the UN before her marriage, why on earth would anyone think the worst about her father or their relationship?

Nobody here knows the full truth, but stop judging the public for believing the explanation that one of the principles involved chose to put into the public domain.

I think you need some basic compassion.

When there are issues surrounding SA, none of us have a right to know anything except the relevant authorities involved.

Meghan may have had many valid reasons for not speaking out about this publicly. She may have been advised not to do so.

She may have thought having a dad with those alleged charges would damage her reputation and that of the RF? The RF themselves may have advised her to keep quiet and that was one of the sources of their rift? Who knows?

Either way, this is a horrible thing for her to deal with. Think how you would feel if one of your parents was alleged to have done such vile things?

Id agree with you entirely if she hadnt announced she had known for years. But her statement has unfortunately put her in the know. And she kept quiet. I really hope no children were abused after 2018 becuase if she knew and TMs other children didn't, then she has the responsibility to kick up a fuss and not brush it under the carpet and make things up on Oprah and Netflix about the estrangement. It's people in positions of power and influence keeping quiet that helped Epstein.

In fact she misdirected attention to people thinking they were estranged due to pap shots. Not anything more awful.

But in her statement, she knew because she was shown a letter by the Met police who she has said told her it would be investigated. She clearly hasn't kept this to herself.

What else was she meant to do in this situation? If she is shown a letter by the Met police force then the onus is on them not Meghan to be investigating this and following up to the relevant authorities.

What do people mean she should be kicking up a fuss? She isn't responsible for any of this. We don't know what the outcome of the initial investigation was. It may be the allegations were found to not to be true at that point and if that's the case, what was Meghan have meant to have done.

As Meghan herself said: silence is complicity. While numerous, trivial journalists have been chasing after TMsnr and treating him as one half of an (in effect) celebrity fall out, serious journalists could have been looking into his actual activities and why the RF exercises poor judgment in these matters. They weren’t though, because the explanation they were given by Meghan herself created a massive squirrel to chase.

Yes very well said - quite a few press pundits are reflecting openly about whether they may have read this all wrong. Tim Stanley pushed back at Camilla Tominey on his latest podcast - "Maybe we were wrong about Meghan,". Maybe you were. I can't ever start to understand what she must have been carrying in her head - nor do I really want to. That it must be traumatic goes without saying.

Adaira45 · Yesterday 09:35

Some people seem to be making it out thar she knew for ages and kept it to herself and did nothing but that's clear that's not true. If she was shown a letter by a police force then the responsibility is on THEM not Meghan to be advising other relevant police forces and agencies.

The issue isn't Meghan knowing. It's that the Met, a police force who are responsible for investigating and dealing with this knew about it in 2018 and that's what we need to focus on. If they knew, did they inform authorities in America? What did they do about it.

We don't know what the outcome was and I'm not suprised Meghan kept quiet. Isn't it nornal standard practice to not comment on a on-going police enquiry?

This is a weird thread, it's like some on here expected her to turn SuperMeghan and fight crime. She's an actress. If the police were aware (and they were because they were the ones who informed her) then there was no further action required from Meghan. She shouldn't have been told in the first place. What did the Met police do after sharing the info with her and the royal family (and who else).

It's not really ' the public' is it? It's the small section of ' the public' and people on the RF board who are obsessed with Meghan Markle and how dreadful she is and how literally everything has to be her fault in some way.

Just bc she left out unproven SA allegations, it doesn’t mean that the rest of the stuff wasn’t true. It’s not a case of ‘either’, ‘or’.

Everyone saw what an awful man TM was at the end of that documentary saying something like “now it’s my turn to cash in”.

I mean, who says that about their own daughter? And on film?

And I do think anyone who has a parent accused of SA deserves compassion, because it’s a horrible thing to go through, and she may have been a victim herself.

No one is entitled to an explanation except the alleged victims and their families and the investigating authorities.

She told detailed stories about why she was estranged. On Oprah and on Netflix.

Either she didn't actually know in 2018 and is lying for her own reasons.

Or she did know and didnt want to speak up despite having a world wide voice. And made up stories about it to put people off the real story. And then complained about the RF being unhelpful, lipgloss and people asking about what her baby would look like. When she knew her father was abusing children. That does indicate a major disconnect with what is wrong and right or narcissistic behaviour
