So.

Am I right in thinking both the Palace and M were alerted?

And no-one was interested enough to follow progress or have the very abundant Palace advisors available follow?

Have they learned nothing from the multiple sex scandals already associated with the royals?

No, I haven't said anything of the sort, you're making some very broad leaps and assumptions based on your own bias.

Where have I implied that she's lying? I have looked at the same interviews and have drawn different conclusions to the previous poster, so I think it's fair to say our own preconceived notions inform our opinions and conclusions.

I am self-aware enough to know that I don't know any of these people and never will but I don't enjoy seeing someone insulted, mocked and hounded for no reason. There are so many worse people and things out there to focus on and of all the things, millions of middle-aged women chose...Meghan Markle! She's not even that interesting.

Edited

She’s fascinating psychologically - one of the most blatant, text-book narcissists to ever breathe. She creates endless drama - none of it good - around herself and pathologically seeks attention.

The Met, if they were told and did nothing, should be held accountable. Those who knew within the Met.
And lets say the Met knew and wanted to investigate but Palace quashes it so they are not embarrassed, they they should be held accountable. Am not saying the Palace knew bu wouldnt put it past them given their handling of Andrew's behaviour

On the information we have, there was nothing for the Met to investigate. No offence was committed in the UK, nor was there anything that could be brought to trial in the UK. It is not the Met's job to investigate offences allegedly committed in the Philippines by a US citizen who has never been resident in the UK, even if that individual is related to the royal family by marriage.

No it hasn’t been said that the Palace were alerted. Just that a letter was passed to Meghan from the Met

She has told ridiculous lies which any idiot could see through…yet she expects us to believe them.

She announced to the world that her wedding, which cost 3O+million was meaningless to her…it was just “a spectacle for the masses”.

Wish she’d said that in the first place instead of trying to demand as grand a wedding as WaC.

She thinks we’re as ignorant as she is.

The BBC itself says Royal weddings became public spectacles. She isn't wrong in saying its a spectacle for the masses.

No clarification on who the mystery person/organisation was who wrote the letter either.

Considering there doesn't seem to have ever been a police investigation into Thomas Snr in the US, where he was resident at the time, (UK police had no jurisdiction), we can assume it didn't come from US police so who else would have had direct access to this information and why was there no US police investigation at the time?

Don't hold back that's quite a stretch "ever to breathe". I think you destroy whatever credibility you might have with such hyperbole.

Not sure what to make of this. Either she knew but did nothing about it , or she didn't in which case why is she saying she was protecting her children by severing contact?

There was nothing for her to do. She was informed by the police that her father was being investigated for child abuse back in 2018, she cut contact with him and kept her kids safe.

I'm not sure what you're expecting her to have done? The authorities already knew and were investigating - if she'd gone to the press and said, "The police have told me that my dad's a nonce" she would have potentially wrecked any investigation, which sounds like a complicated one covering a couple of different countries. People would have accused her of using a terrible situation to gain attention and sympathy.

Now it has come out, people are literally doing that anyway. On this and a couple of other threads I've seen people suggesting:

  1. If she knew, why didn't she do anything? (Because the authorities already knew and were the ones who told her. She's not Batman).

  2. Thomas Markle is a hardworking man wronged by Meghan, and is being stitched up to gain sympathy for the Sussexes (er, if you say so).

  3. Her statement is a publicity stunt (and I'm sure if she'd stayed quiet people would have theorised that she'd covered up for him, or demand a statement from her).

  4. Her children were born to surrogates, she's not biologically related to them and was only pretending to be pregnant (wtf?).

The poor woman had already distanced herself from her father after he was selling her secrets to the press, and then finds out he's been accessing child abuse material. She quite reasonably completely cut him off, whilst the British press kept giving the nonce a platform on how horribly hard done by he is because his mean daughter won't let him see his grandchildren.

It's quite surprising the Palace might have been left out of the loop.

Amen to this and all those posters those long term posters you know who you are for writing vile comments about her for cutting off her Dad who now remain silent and will not apologise for being wrong or for making those horrivle comments and double down and continue to be awful about her.

This. ^

People seem to think that the Met has somehow failed in its duty, but the letter was sent as a warning. Had M's dad come to the UK and brought devices with him, then maybe the Met could've acted. But they have no jurisdiction over a US citizen who has never set foot in this country.

What is interesting and mildly disturbing is how much hate this poor women has attracted for falling in love and marrying the second son of the King and encouraging him to find happiness outside of the institution. An otherwise decent and respectable endeavour.

Many in the press are doing mea culpa - two more in the Independent just now

So one can only look back and grimace at the lurid insults thrown her way. We were told that Mr Markle had been “exiled”, “banished”, “cancelled” and “snubbed” for eight long years by the Sussexes. The Daily Mail wrote, after Thomas Markle was said to have a heart attack, that as her “stricken dad lies in a hospital bed 7,000 miles away”, Meghan was “ten parts Cruella to one part Nigella in the bitter cocktail of life”.
It’s clear who was to be portrayed as the innocent in all this. An apology wouldn't go amiss. But then again, Meghan Markle never has received a fair hearing.

And another in the same newspaper

What happens next is for the police, and for the courts if it gets that far. Thomas Markle denies everything. His son’s account has not been tested. His daughter Samantha disputes it entirely. This family has given us so many competing versions of the truth over the years that it’s understandable if people struggle to know who or what to believe.
For eight years, the Markle story has been treated as entertainment: a royal family soap opera everyone, myself included, had an opinion on. Whatever you think of the Duchess of Sussex, she spent years taking the blame for a family rift she couldn’t explain. The press, myself included, helped write the story that she couldn’t answer.

Haven't RYFT. But the whole thing is weird and there's a few weird things.

Oprah...MM explains the estrangement in great detail. Was that all another lie?

2022 Netflix Harry says its his fault as she doesnt have a father and if she wasnt going out with him, she would still have a father. Did she not tell him what she was allegedly told by the Met in 2018 (although they have no record of this letter?).Why did he say that if he knew?.

Why criticise the RF so harshly over many years when this was allegedly going on in MMs own family?

Be interesting to see what happens and what is actually proven. Feel so sorry for those little kids though.

No she wasn't informed by the police that her father was being investigated for child abuse back in 2018.

She said a letter containing "troubling and disturbing allegations" was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection in 2018. The police subsequently shared it with her, giving her assurances at the time that the matter was under investigation.

It's not clear WHO was investigating it as the Met police had no jurisdiction over a US resident who was not even present in the UK, other than sharing the letter with US police which we can hope they did and there would be a trail from that.

This letter was apparently shared with her after her wedding and before she had children if it was in summer 2018.

Really interested to know who the letter came from.

What's the betting it was anonymous and conveniently sent after the controversy over her father not attending the wedding.

If it does exist of course.

It has been apparently shared with the Sun, from which a journalist was also present when Meghan's 'estranged' brother reported the CSA images to the police in the Philippines.

Considering they apparently are no contact, it's rather coincidental the same newspaper is involved with both as we can only assume Meghan's circle shared the letter with the Sun. Thomas Jnr has not said he was shown the letter in 2018 and if he was, he would surely have reported the contents to the US police then, right?

The police would not have shared it with the Sun surely?

So who did?

I can but I think copying the most pertinent parts adds to the debate , or at leat the debate I want to have - but happy to link if you think that helps. I read this on a big screen on a pc. So it's easy to c&p and screenshot. I can't abide mobiles and tablets and wouldn't use them for forums if that’s all I had.

I've no idea. But it's just all really, really odd. She probably should have waited before sending that statement saying she knew in 2018 but didn't do anything, especially as it's not been corroborated. It's useful for her to say that she knew in 2018 so she can now explain why he didn't come to the wedding I suppose. Its all so unpleasant. And those kids...new school and your grandpa is outed (worldwide) as an alleged paedo.
