So she learned of the allegations and then wrote that sugary “dear daddy” letter which got “leaked” to the press and she sued about? Right. Ok. All the time believing what she had been briefed on? Hmmm.

That's fairly damning, wasn't she found to have been involved in the leak?

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2026 16:57

It's being reported (LBC & BBC) that Met Police say there is not and has not been any investigation into allegations against TM.
They are now investigation the whole story of the letter, who received it and whether it was shared with MM

BunnyBunbunbun · 23/10/2026 16:50

The picture is from the wedding - before she heard about the investigation that did not take any action against her father. So, the 2018 allegations can't be the reason her father wasn't at the wedding and so Charles - a man she turned against very publicly - had to walk her down the aisle instead.

The story was broken by The Sun, as alleged by her estranged brother. So The Sun is ok now? Why wasn't her brother at the wedding?

But, yeah, she is using this story as an opportunity to conduct her battle with the media and fix her own narrative.

What she is also doing is getting people talking. Numerous questions arise from the statement about who knew what when, which police force is investigating, what stage the investigations have reached, why this is coming out now. She could have chosen to ignore The Sun's story.

As so often, I feel for the children. They have two grandfathers whom their parents have publicly criticised. One, a head of state, is accused of running a racist institution, being a bad father and cutting them off financially. The other may be a paedophile, and their mother has let it be known she thinks he is but without really saying why.

Why would they divorce?

Because the MM haters have been "divorcing" this couple for many years.

I choose my words very carefully. Look back at the trail and you’ll see I originally referred to C’s close family. I did that deliberately. I could also have said “nuclear “ family - the people in her household during her upbringing.

I also said “more distant” , not distant, and there’s a difference.

I sometimes wonder why I bother!

I sometimes wonder if the mental gymnastics doesn't make you dizzy.

Meghan loves the wealth, title, status and privilege. She won't give that up, it's everything to her.

"She reported it, do you want her to arrest him herself"

Huh? What did she report? She didn't report anything.

As for arresting him, no one actually arrested Thomas Markle after the 2018 investigation, which suggests its findings didn't warrant arresting him.

? Where is it stated that there was a 2018 investigation?

I suppose so, and she can still call herself Duchess and continue to have the coronet on her stationery 👑
People can still curtsey.

Met Police did not launch child sex probe into Thomas Markle.
The Metropolitan Police revealed today that it was investigating whether a letter was shared with the Duchess of Sussex about allegations against her father eight years ago.

Nono22972 · 23/10/2026 17:12

I'm not the biggest fan of Meghan but I've always supported her decision to cut her father off based on his behaviour, when he was pretty much giving so many interviews about her and allowing his two other children to constantly bash Meghan publicly.

However, the dynamics since this news came out have been very interesting to watch.

To the Meghan supporters, I 100% agree that Meghan is not to blame for this but how are the Royal Family to blame for this?

I will always criticise the way they dealt with that Andrew situation (and I think the late Queen did not get enough backlash for this) but Thomas Markle? Who's not even a British citizen?

However, this is my issue and I've said this in another thread. Sometimes I think Harry and Meghan suffer from amnesia, think we do or just think we're stupid.

In 2021, during the Oprah interview, Meghan blamed the media for the breakdown of her relationship with her father.

In 2022, in their Netflix show, this is what Harry said about Meghan's relationship with her dad:

"“Of course, it’s incredibly sad what happened. She had a father before this, and now she doesn’t have a father. And I shouldered that because if Meg wasn’t with me, then her dad would still be her dad.”

Both of them openly blamed the media which led to William, Kate and their team getting a lot of backlash for years basically accusing them of leaking Meghan's letter to the press and low key making it seem like TM was a victim of the press.

So, they knew about this since 2018 and let W&K get bashed for years. This is the same couple who said that "silence is betrayal"

Yet, I feel so bad for Meghan. With a family like that, who needs enemies

The thing with Meghan (and Harry) is that they’re both so bloody reactive. They’re so desperate to control the narrative that they don’t stop to consider the long term consequences of what they say or how their wording might come back to bite them.

This situation has very little to do with Meghan beyond the unfortunate fact that Thomas Markle is her father. Ideally, she should have stayed quiet or simply said, “This is a private family matter. Thomas Markle is a private citizen, and I am no longer in contact with him. I will not be commenting further.”

Instead, she’s opened herself up to questions that might otherwise never have been asked. If she knew about these allegations in 2018, why hasn’t she spoken before? Could she have assisted the investigation? Did she pass any information to the US or Philippine police? And how does the Dear Daddy letter fit with her explanation for going no contact?

The irony is that she may feel unable to stay silent because she’s previously said that “complacency is complicity”. And because she and Harry clap back at every perceived slight, people have come to expect a response. When they suddenly say nothing about something significant, that silence itself becomes a story. This is why the royals’ “never complain, never explain” approach can be effective. You can’t challenge every criticism and insist on having the last word without creating expectations you may later regret.

At the end of the day, Meghan is not her father’s keeper. She could have maintained her distance, allowed the investigation to unfold and remained confident in her decision to go no contact without making herself part of the story. What happens if Thomas is found not guilty, the allegations prove unfounded, or Thomas Jnr is shown to have misrepresented things? These are possibilities annd illustrate the risks of getting involved before the facts are established.

Sometimes, in trying so hard to control the narrative, you end up giving people even more reasons to scrutinise you.

MerryAquaKoala · 23/10/2026 17:24

'If she knew about these allegations in 2018, why hasn’t she spoken before? '

She didn't know any such allegations in 2018. Made up to give herself the NC excuse. She didn't want him at her wedding in 2016. They cut him off in 2016.

Imagine being so outraged about having to curtsey to the Queen that you make an entire docuseries about it. Chortling and scoffing like a vacuous fool.
And all the while you are somehow not outraged that your strongly-suspected paedophile father is still roaming around third world countries known to be friendly to these proclivities.

Was this another docuseries? Because in the Harry & Meghan Netflix series, she made a joke about herself - specifically about how she didn't know how to curtsey and how she felt like she mucked it up. The exaggerated curtsy was a comic reenactment of her own confusion at the time. She was essentially saying, “I had no idea what I was doing and I'm suddenly expected to curtsey to the Queen!”

Yet you turned that into being 'outraged about having to curtsey to the Queen'? What? You people will find fault in anything she does because you have made up your minds to hate someone you've never met.

StandingStones · 23/10/2026 17:38

The papers say that a letter was sent to the police and shared with Meghan AFTER her wedding. So she cut her dad off before she allegedly saw this letter. And then she wrote the leaked letter to him? Which didn't mention any of this? Or did she write her leaked letter between her wedding and the shared police letter?

Either way, she's decided that this current news can be used to change the narrative and timeline of events so that she comes out looking like she's behaved with grace in cutting her father off.

Meanwhile we wait for the police to confirm that a) they received such a letter and b) they shared it with her. And when, of course.

Excellent post. And just to add, this alleged offence being discussed is international, and there are dedicated Interpol teams working on it. All nations involved in this are members of Interpol, and information and investigations do, and have to, cross borders. They have to, because of the nature of the crime. Operation Ore is a great example.

Meghan will know this. She has made it her thing to campaign for children's online safety.

Yet she appears to have said nothing for 8 years. While putting herself forward as an expert on the subject, and an advocate for online safety. And she is now saying the break with her father was over this, after spending 8 years telling a different story.

She had a platform to tell people, to warn people, to educate people. But now, for some reason, going by her statement today, it appears she decided to lie about it for 8 years. Her story about going NC I mean.

Surely, if she had this information while she was advocating for child online safety, to protect children from sexual expolitation, she would have used it. Because what a powerful bit of information to get her such an important message accross.

Edit... added words in italics.
