Well, being goady is usually a reason for deletion, as would be an attack.

It is probably sometimes hard for MN to distinguish a 'pile on' from 100 individuals all expressing the same point of view.
Though I agree if the OP is in distress about something then 100 people all saying 'you were stupid to allow X in the first place' or whatever is unhelpful and counter productive.
Are you reporting the actual threads when you see them?

Having just done a v quick advanced search and see the thread title where OP is posting a lot, I would just like to add that political threads probably should expect very robust debate.

I guess it depends on how offensive people's posts are - they can easily cross the line into personal attacks, for example. Which will definitely be deleted.

LHF, nobody can "get" anyone banned. Only MNHQ can make that decision. I have had a few suspensions in the past which were my fault and nobody else's. I haven't had one for a long time now as I (mostly!) don't break TG.

It helps, I find, to think carefully before you post.

I've seen the pile ons against LHF. Unfortunately the posters who take part are very skilled at writing their posts to stay within talk guidelines. They get away with it, yet report others.

It's very easy to assume a pile on though, isn't it, if there are lots of people disagreeing with a poster? But disagreement really isn't bullying; if several posters are disagreeing with one poster, then perhaps there's a clue that that one poster is posting stuff that lots of other posters have an issue with.

I do understand that it must make someone feel bad if everyone appears to be disagreeing with them - but in and of itself, that isn't something that breaks Talk Guidelines. But that's obviously up to MNHQ to adjudicate.

Sorry I disagree. I think thats minimising. Those of us who sit right of centre are quite used to disagreement on MN and have developed very thick skins. That isn't what OP is talking about.

There are pile-ons, there is bullying, and it is often co-ordinated. It is usually left to stand. How skilled the perpetrators are at avoiding deletion shouldn't be a factor, but it is.

I think the internet really isn’t the place for some people. If you don’t like reading something then don’t. Simple.

Being right of centre doesn't make you any more vulnerable to disagreement @Nuthatch26! Just try posting about low carbing

And I wasn't trying to minimise anything - especially if someone is feeling distressed about what's happening. I was trying to point out that it's about perception and, ultimately, up to MNHQ to decide if a post or posts are breaking Talk Guidelines.

The threads where I have seen LHF robustly challenged are usually on the most contentious subjects discussed on MN. Those debates are always 🔥 on all sides.

I am not going to get personal on this thread, but let's just say certain posters objecting to pile ons and personal attacks is quite the irony.

Yes it was quite the lengthy screed. Some thought it good but it was nonsense pretty much.

I’ve seen a lot of your posts OP and although I’m not in agreement with most of them, I do think you get piled on.

The thing with mumsnet is if you post a lot and are not on what they see as the correct side, people who feel as strongly the other way, go out to get you and there are often more of them.

Mumsnet have a tendency to look at individual posts which may not appear to be an attack, just robust debate, but if they took a wider view, they would see it for what it is. They have lots of reports so I don’t think they’re able to look at the bigger picture due to not having the resources.
