Goading and group pile ons

How is it an invasion of Privacy? It is looking at information posted on a public forum.

For some reason that mnhq links to a long running thread so here it is

Hi all. Due to the volume of reports we're receiving about this and similar threads, we feel the need to step in.

We know political threads can be passionate, and people are allowed to disagree sometimes very strongly, but we need everyone to keep that disagreement about the issue, rather than turning it into something personal.

Some of the behaviour we've seen on these threads is pretty unpleasant and can feel like rounding on people because their views don't align. With this in mind, and for the sake of civil discussion on polarised topics, please don’t tag someone merely to make a point about how often they post, when they joined Mumsnet or what you assume their motives are. Don’t comb through someone’s posting history, speculate about their identity or activity elsewhere, or use AI to analyse their posts. And please don’t keep pressing someone to reply, or treat a lack of response as proof that they have no answer.

If you think a post breaks Talk guidelines, report it and let us look at it. Personal attacks, troll-hunting, goading and attempts to turn a thread against one person aren’t okay whatever the topic.

We will take action where posts cross the line, and we may take further action where we see a repeated pattern of targeting or provoking other users.
Please help us keep these threads lively and challenging without making them hostile.

Why on earth would you use her information to search someone else’s name and then broadcast what you did here?
you are using ai in a bullying manner.

How is it bullying? She neither mentioned which poster nor what it said - just that it was somewhat accurate in her opinion.

Hang on, are all the “please don’t” things now to be part of the talk guidelines? They are effectively saying you must take a person at face value, not use advanced search etc to see what they’ve posted before. Will you be getting rid of that function now? And are you really saying people shouldn’t use AI on Mumsnet, because that’s going to lead to a major drop off in the number of posts and a drop in your engagement figures, isn’t it?

I did too! It was also somewhat accurate!
Though I know AI can make things up and I don’t usually use it at all, for anything, on principle.

@jeffgoldblumIf I broke a rule by posting that I searched on AI then feel free to report it.

I think maybe @BeckyAMumsnet means don't use AS to drag what a poster has written elsewhere onto a thread?

@cardibach I did a previous username as had switched recently and some was fairly accurate but some didn’t make sense but I guess sometimes we have similar user names to others.

How is AI searching any different to Advanced searching on MNs which I don’t have as I don’t pay

I've had the experience of possibly being targeted by a couple of different user names either intent on goading or simply getting enjoyment out of poking at other people.

I have made the mistake of responding in the past - though not as fully as they have demanded, and then didn't bother to read any more. Now I just ignore, particularly since one of the user names seemed to be trying to push me into outing myself at one point.

I try to remind myself that it's only the internet.

That does sound a bit creepy - and unreliable...the same name elsewhere might be a completely different person. Then there's hacking...

My X account was taken over by (I think) someone in South Asia, given the correspondence I had with X. (There was a back and forth struggle with the hacker over which email address had control. I know because I got a notification from X and confirmed that the password change request hadn't come from me.) I asked X to delete the account in the end, but it's still there - in spite of someone I don't know on here assuring me that the account was gone, one time. That was weird.

Apparently my old X account now belongs to Real Ellon Musk...
