It doesnt sound like your kids will lie, they would just rather pretend it never happened. You calling the police is forcing them to face a truth they dont want to face.

But you need to do it, for you and ultimately, for them.

I was you once, I called the police. I am sitting on MY sofa in MY house on my own in peace. Call them xx

Agree. You report it to the police because every small thing you report in the interim will help if you every want to get the house in a divorce or get a Domestic Violence Injunction so that he can't come near you again in the future.

If he's done it once, especially if he's done it multiple times in your relationship, he is partly just testing the waters and flexing his power. If you don't report him he'll know he can get away with it again in the future, or worse. Be warned these men often escalate their behaviour to new heights over your are trying to leave because it means they are losing 'control' over you. Can the police and stay safe, OP

Concentrate on getting to your mum's first.
One step at a time, but safely getting to your mum's is the most important right now.
Lots of people here for you.

Reading your replies it sounds like the violence is escalating.

He is stronger than you and is hitting you because he is angry at something else and hitting you has no concequences.

There is a diagram called the Cycle of Abuse. The cycle gets shorter after each event

DC do not want me to call the police, and would be very upset if I did.

They also think their dad was 'pushed to it' as per what he told them, though they agree not acceptable - they are okay with me going to DM

So their dad was also pushed to call their mother fat?

Has he ever hit your DC? Will your DC think they pushed their father, if he had hit them?

dizzydizzydizzy · Today 04:14

PinkPanthreess · Today 00:05

what will they do? I have no proof

Haven’t you got any bruising or marks on your body? Were your DCs at home when your DH attacked you? They could provide a witness statement: What about neighbours? Could they have heard screaming or shouting?

Of course they don’t! And yes obviously it will upset them. Call the police anyway. Your DH has assaulted you and you are clearly terrified. Do you want your DH to continue to get away with violence and breaking the law? Do you want to model to your kids that the way to deal with domestic abuse is to put up and shut up? I know it’s hard to go against their wishes and to (put it mildly) rock the boat, but please be brave and call the police.

inkgirl · Today 04:33

Leave, once they do it once and get away with it they'll do it agsin and again. I was beaten almost daily because I couldn't defend myself. Not by a parnter but by a step parent. SS were called but she lied to them and continued beating me till I moved out just before I was 15. People like that won't stop if they know they can get away with it

to leave safely ? i dont think he will try ti forcibly stop me

im leaving the house and the 19 year old DC at home right now, to him so his life can continue peacefully without me, I don't know how much easier I can make it on him? as I would love it if he would be the one to leave, and I get the house and the DC at home here.

That's why you must tell the police, they will remove him

There is something very wrong with all of this. It sounds like you have young adults, who at this point, should have been brought up to know that you can never be ‘pushed’ into domestic violence being okay, yet that seems to have escaped them. This is very worrying in the event they get their own relationships and families.

Also, Who cares if they are upset by you going to the police, their first thought should be that it’s an appropriate reaction, and they should support you in that. Also, why does it matter that they are okay or not with you going to your mothers? I’d be extremely baffled if this was my children (and yes, I have adult children).

They will have a record of the accusation. They will talk to you both.

Please do it. You may need this in record in future.

All the best.

So their dad has already damaged them, then?

It will be evident he hit you. There will be bruising. The Police can remove him from the house. You can get a legal order preventing him from coming back so you can stay in your house. Your children do not have a say in this. You have been assaulted by their father. He's done it before, he'll do it again as he thinks there are no consequences.

It's not too late to call the Police now. Also, get some support from people who are impartial. Women's Aid or Refuge can help you.

If you have reason to doubt the OP I hope you have reported the post to Mumsnet.

I have reported that post you have responded to, to MNHQ.

Sillyme1 · Today 06:16

I’m not sure why you need to ask? This man is a violent bully. Run, girl, run. He will it change

No, she had a point. The OP posted a rather odd post yesterday, then followed with this. If it is genuine I really hope the OP is OK, but it doesn’t hurt to exercise a little caution

Loveatfirstlight · Today 06:29

There is never any excuse for domestic violence. I hope you have managed to get yourself to a place of safety and called the police. Calling you names - that is verbal violence. None of this is okay under any circumstances.

Speakeasier · Today 06:30

Pinkissmart · Today 00:21

This is 100% the end and not something you can or should come back from.

After your update about your children not wanting you to call the police- I think you need to call them even more. Your children should see how serious this is. Is sounds like they have been raised in an environment where it was normalised that you get treated without respect. You have to show them that this is not normal, that treating you with violence and humiliation is not normal.

Please leave him and please call the police

I agree. There isn’t really a point of irritation that justifies physical violence and it’s worrying both that he isn’t deeply ashamed and that your children aren’t appalled.

I think you should at least log it with the police and make sure he is interviewed by the police even if it doesn’t proceed to a prosecution.

Do you not have any bruises that would be evidence of the assault?

NoLifeguardOnDuty · Today 06:37

Has this happened before or tonight was the first time? Is that why your dc doesn't want you to call the police, because they think their dad will go to prison, and that's a scary thought for kids?
just get to your mums for now before you worry about what's going to happen next, you can't control anything at the minute.

MarthaLovesLaughing · Today 06:40

Go to your Mums.....I imagine that you're there now

This morning I would go to the Police station and have a chat. You don't have to make it formal if you don't want to. Tell the Officer what your children have said

Then call women's aid and ask for their help and advice

You'll need to contact a solicitor regards the divorce but you'll find that Citizens advice are also very helpful

It would be good to have proof (photo or paperwork) of your husbands income, pension, benefits, savings, investments, property. You could get this when he's at work

letshavetea · Today 06:45

OP, I’m so sorry this has happened. You cannot though be influenced by what your children say, you MUST call the police.
You don’t need permission to do so from anyone. Do you have a good friend who you can contact for support (as well as your Mum? Also please contact women’s aid. I hope you are now at your Mum’s.

Don’t listen to your kids on this one. Would they rather their mum stayed with her abuser?
