Suella Braverman a disgrace to humanity

Did anyone watch her on bbc question time? She was spouting so much hatred. She is trying to rip apart this country. Divide and conquer. Honestly it’s really upsetting. I hate that our young people are watching this play out.

OP posts:

I have just said I don’t watch it. But again yes I avoid it and can see why their viewing figures and licence fee numbers are plummeting.

So you watch the TV without a licence, I'm afraid the licence is a TV licence not a BBC licence. If you stream you still need a license.

I don’t. I didn’t see this even. If you scroll back you’ll see it clearly. I looked up the dialogue online to see what the op was talking about.

Suella’s answers are easy to find. And no streaming non-live shows doesn’t require a licence which is what we watch. You should check your misinformation on that.

I don’t think anyone is denying anyone anything. I think more likely that the actual English establishment remembers very clearly the disgrace of some who got themselves involved with the Nazis less than hundred years ago and that there is still some deep shame in some circles. And in fact, ethno nationalism has always been deeply unfashionable amongst the English.

So there can still be an "English establishment" just no English ethnicity?

Seems like being "English" exists when it can be used to insult.

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 13:47

English “ethnicity” is separate from Englishness, the two can overlap. But the former is not a prerequisite to the latter.
And I am explaining the historic context of why you aren’t even going to get the Tories to ever agree to ethno nationalism.
It pays to understand English history fully, to read the Oxford university study on tracing the ethnicity back to see how it really is a mix, to see why even JRM says what he does and where the various Tories sit on the matter ideologically.

How can the two overlap if there is no such thing as English ethnicity?

And none of this excuses abuse aimed at a female politician for saying how she feels. No one has to say English. Or they can say it. It’s an individual thing.

That's what I think.

Suella is entitled to her feelings re her own ethnicity.

Very harsh to call her " a disgrace to humanity" for verbalising it.

That's fine but the BBC is a lot more than news, it makes drama, produces educational content and has a huge impact on the economy, music....the list is endless.
People should be a lot more supportive of the BBC it gets a lot of stick but little credit for all the good they do.

She is a rage politician though, she is also thick as mince. She hates people on benefits but that I find strange because why, she's a multi millionaire. Why do multi millionaires hate people on welfare.

PacificDinner · 11/10/2026 22:29

If the BBC is so great, why must people be coerced into paying for it?

You may disagree with SB, but she is certainly not thick. I just looked up her bio: Cambridge, the Sorbonne, and then a barrister.

Yep agree on both. Thick seems the go to for online abuse for some female politicians, when clearly she’s not.

Why are you changing the subject from what she said about her own ethnicity?

This is the issue OP started the thread about.

Twiglets1 · 12/10/2026 05:49

Changing the subject and calling a Cambridge graduate “thick as mince”.

What a contribution to the thread.

And going to university makes you bright. That's not my experience. Look at Boris Johnson, they might be well read and have qualifications but that's not intelligence

Boris can be criticised for lots of things but no one that graduated from Oxbridge is “thick as mince” to use your expression.

I think you’re being over generous.

Araminta1004 · 12/10/2026 09:21

Well there is academic intelligence and then there is emotional intelligence.

Obviously Boris Johnson is intelligent. You may not like him or what he's done but he's hardly stupid. He wouldn't be as successful as he has been without having a good brain. It's unintelligent to suggest otherwise.

He's clearly intelligent. I imagine SB is too. The problem is that intelligence doesn't make someone a good person.

EEexpat · 12/10/2026 10:08

@PacificDinner

It feels like people want to misrepresent her for their own political purposes.

Yes.

I have watched BBC Question Time for many years. However, since the 2016 referendum, no matter what the original question asked by the audience was, someone on the panel turns it around to:

Say why Brexit was wrong.

Don’t for anyone else but us as all the other parties are rubbish.

EEexpat · 12/10/2026 10:19

@pointythings

The problem is that intelligence doesn't make someone a good person.

So, what does make a good person?

So, what does make a good person?

Empathy. Conscience. Common sense. Critical thinking. Choosing not to judge. Reading widely. Not making assumptions about people based on appearance. Asking questions. Acceptance. There's probably a lot more.

EEexpat · 12/10/2026 10:30

@pointythings

How would each of those examples be measured?

Who would do the measuring?

Would there be an exam to take to establish who is good and who is bad?

Araminta1004 · 12/10/2026 10:50

I think it is fair to say that it is bad/plain stupid to establish enemies on the inside of a country in this geopolitical climate, when there is an abundance of enemies on the outside.

By their deeds shall you know them.
