Did anyone watch her on bbc question time? She was spouting so much hatred. She is trying to rip apart this country. Divide and conquer. Honestly it’s really upsetting. I hate that our young people are watching this play out.

Also the concept of “British Asian”. I mean Asia, that is 60 per cent of the world’s population almost now, almost 4.9 billion people. So if you have British nationality and some ancestors from Asia, then what you are meant to be in some random bucket of “Asian”.
As far as I am concerned, British Asian is a time period thing as well. Usually two parents from somewhere in South Asia who came over in the last century. I mean maybe some young people whose parents arrived during the Boris wave to eg work for the NHS or in care, do like the term? One would have to ask them if they want to be lumped together with more than half the world, so that some little Englanders have a way of describing them.

You just seem too opinionated on how people can or can't identify.

If someone identifies as British Asian, so what? That's how they feel and no, it doesn't need to be time stamped.

I’m sure. ‘Not very bright’ for someone put under the spotlight over their identity when no one else is is just more abuse piling up frankly.

You don’t like her politics, you don’t need to add to what female politicians face just for giving an answer to a direct, and unnecessary, question on her identity.

No one needs to be singled out for whatever reason and hats off to her for putting up with the accusation FB which followed, it’s typical QT nonsense.

Edited

QT can be a bit of a wind up, though it is interesting to see if panellists answer emotively or intellectually. ( Sadiq Khan was completely out of his depth intellectually ).
I remember one episode where Dimbleby tried to skewer Rees Mogg as elitist by talking of his Eton education, and Rees Mogg pointed out that Dimbleby had sent his son there.
I watched some of the recent Andy Burnham one - micro-expressions galore.
If you want to see someone thinking on the spot it's informative.

It’s very hard for someone to be singled out over how they look to answer without some emotion. SB did well, as did Andi P. The follow up from FB accusing SB of being racist for her own self identity was typical QT insanity.

All this has just made me glad QT viewing figures have plummeted, what a load of rubbish.

Of course she is not the brightest cookie in the room. Apparently Reform are all out on gaining votes via social media etc and amongst the young. You would think someone would first actually bother talking to the young first on simple matters such as identity and how things have changed in the last 40 years. I mean if you want to portray yourself as the party to reform the old guard and do things differently, one would assume you would start with the young and what they actually think and believe in.

@Twiglets1 - I am simply pointing out the fact that in recent years, there a lot more people who have arrived from Asia, including China, Hong Kong, Philippines etc

She can say British Asian and be clever. I’m really not sure why she is getting this in particular. The Andi Peters thread was pretty much unanimous in supporting him, pretty much no one demanded he answer, or that he said the wrong thing about his own identity, or was racist for not saying what other people wanted him to say, or wasn’t very bright.

Look to the questioner eg Fiona Bruce QT for why she thought it was ok. Not the person in the unnecessary spotlight.

SB is more eloquent on paper than in person (see her on triggernometry vs her letter to Rishi).
She's very smart but not confident, (better than being overconfident but not smart).
The people who call her a coconut because she doesn't think the way they do are part of the thinkless masses, not even aware of their own hypocrisy.
What I do believe is that the seemingly intractible problems faced in the UK sphere of influence require intellectual solutions.

@quantumbutterfly - out of interest, when is old Jacob planning his political comeback? Do you know?

Your guess is as good as mine, if not better, I expect 'Araminta'.

Oh dear.

We count ethnicity because it helps us plan resource allocation in services. Some ethnic groups are more vulnerable to certain types of illness. Knowing where they're concentrated means services can be planned accordingly. No big conspiracy, just pragmatism.

So why are we being bullied into pretending everyone is English?

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:05

Well @quantumbutterfly - AI think he wants to come back as a Tory who unites the party with Reform. Rather apt to this discussion no? Given the stand down between Suella and Kemi, and the ideological rift on some of the discussed issues. Perhaps he will take a stand on the matter, who knows, and submit his position “per accidens” or was it “fortuito”. I never had him down as a diplomat, you know.

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:16

IsThisJustLifeInTheSouth · 09/10/2026 10:18

Ethnicity and nationality are entirely different. You can be a British Asian and English.
Braverman is both a racist and unintelligent in her arguments.
Her only response was “am I being racist to myself?” to which the answer is, “possibly but your thinking is so incoherent it would be difficult for anyone to know”.

Indians are English?

Are Indians worldwide 200 different ethnicities depending on which country they have landed in?

Does the same work for English people, are the English 200 different ethnicities depending on whichever country they go to?

Is an Indian born in England English if they move to India?

Why is English the only ethnicity that is simply an identity for anyone from anywhere in the world?

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:19

That is not what we are saying. Being “From England” aka born on English soil and growing up and being shaped there is enough to feel English, if you want to.
And there is a reason for that. We have tried to explain it!
There is a falling birth rate, nation states have lost control over capital and human labour, they need buy in and belonging from the entire population born here to compete against certain malignant superpowers. And they need the population here to be talking on the point that unite them in a common value system, not the opposite try to divide and conquer on petty things.
Hope that solves it for you.

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:22

Indians aren’t one ethnicity either by the way, far from it!

pointythings · 09/10/2026 12:26

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:03

So why are we being bullied into pretending everyone is English?

We're not. We are being asked to accept that people are free to identify their ethnicity as they see fit. Ask yourself why this bothers you so much.

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:34

Well it's really not working is it? The idea that "talking" about a "common value system" will unite millions of people from all over the world is bizzare. When is this going to start? Where is the money coming from to facilitate this enormous "talking"? Why are we expected to perform this duty when we have voted in governments to reduce immigration and as Badenoch told us this week, they were busy doing other things and didn't bother to notice the out of control visa system was being systematically exploited by millions.

The actual "white British" population is remarkably stable in numbers. The non stop hysteria about decline is simply massively over stated.

The mass importing of poverty from around the globe hasn't created "buy in and belonging" to anything other than the welfare state, that's an obvious truth.

It's certainly not the economic miracle that will "pay pensions" is it?

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:35

pointythings · 09/10/2026 12:26

So ethnicity is simply something you think you are?

Why have we been forced to count actual ethnicity for decades then?

Oh, so there are actual ethnicities then? Just not for the English? We are simply a " thought" or a "feeling" anyone from anywhere in the world can think or feel?

quantumbutterfly · 09/10/2026 12:36

Yes it was the op and the abuse towards SB that’s followed that shows many are not ok with that.

That reminds me of an argument I've heard elsewhere.🤔

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:44

How is a baby born on English soil entitled to British citizenship by law “anyone from anywhere in the world”.

Please do explain because I cannot wait to hear the answer.

I have already explained this. RTFT.

She is, but not because of that. Choosing to join Reform is what did it for me.

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:22

I think SB should self define but the word here feels at odds now. Who has an ethnicity? Is it just some groups?
