Did anyone watch her on bbc question time? She was spouting so much hatred. She is trying to rip apart this country. Divide and conquer. Honestly it’s really upsetting. I hate that our young people are watching this play out.

Because when white people start talking about ethnicity and heritage other people around the world start getting unalived. We need to look past what we may have been before, it is irrelevant now. England is and always will be a postracial country, so get used to it and start celebrating diversity for all the wonderful things that it brings to each of our lives. We are so lucky, our 'ancestors' never got to enjoy those privileges.

Are you suggesting we should get rid of all the questions about race and ethnicity that are collected?

People need to be more proud of their own heritage rather than pretending to be English. And other people need to allow them to be proud rather than taking offence on their behalf at any suggestion they arent 100% English. And allow the English to be proud of their own heritage too. Which is what is missing these days.

Ive always loved being 50% one thing 50% the other.

It seems hyperbolic to call SB hateful.

There is genuine confusion over civic Englishness and English as a genetically identifiable ethnic group.

I am an immigrant to the UK myself. I feel like both Suella and Kemi are right. It depends upon the context.

Trying to hype it up is just wedge politics, stoking short term political advantage for long term disunity and disgruntlement.

Yes they are both right to answer as they have. It is entirely up to them and neither should get mn abuse for it.

Well all these statistics seem to be used for is to argue all the so called crimes people of certain cultural backgrounds are more likely to commit, so I would say the data is not exactly contributing to a healthy cohesive society.

Anything that causes division should be banned and our history should be fortified to be more inclusive of communities that we have welcomed into our society. Being 'Anglo-Saxon' or whatever isn't relevant to our national story.

dwordle · 11/10/2026 09:21

I prefer not to listen, just turn it off....they will soon learn to stop the rage. People need to turn it off and stop getting angry.

The yanks are going back to public executions to fuel the rage.... don't watch it.... simple.

I haven’t watched QT for years for good reason. It seems many others are the same. And the BBC generally. Perhaps they’ll learn why they’re losing viewers.

I suppose it would be okay to strip out all the race stuff and just focus on universal dignity and rights. I would be okay with that. It would be a big shift from current approach though.

Hard disagree there. If you start curbing people's freedoms to identify who they are, you're on a hiding to nowhere and playing into the hands of the far right. And it isn't just white people who use ethnicity to sow division - just look at the success of Narendra Modi in India. People are innately inclined to think in terms of 'them and us'. What matters is whether we allow that to affect how we run things, and the point is that we should not. Identify as you wish, but leave that out of politics because that's when you get deaths, deportations, remigration and all the other far right nonsense.

I hate the term 'unalived'. Pathetic Facebook euphemism.

No, this data is collected to support allocation of resources in health, education and other important everyday matters. I've already explained this.

The fact that the data is also distorted and warped by those on the far right in order to support their narrative is something that needs addressing, but you can't not collect ethnicity data because it is real people who would lose out on essential support.

Soontobe60 · 11/10/2026 09:48

DebbieSavage · 11/10/2026 08:56

See my comment above. There is no English ethnicity, its not about denying us what we are, its about making all people here feel welcome without a genetix hierarchy of who is more English than who. If you care about diversity you would drop the issue, I mean what does it matter to YOU personally what YOUR ancestors were? You have never been oppressed for the colour of your skin or for who you are, your lineage is irrelevant to your life story.

‘Oppression’ has many different guises.

Is being Black African Caribbean, or South Asian not relevant to those individuals’ stories?

Obviously a white, male politician can’t say English but Suella Braverman must say English. The English are the only ones without traditions globally or they must list them on any thread. And often referred to as “traditions”.

But whatever happens mn must lob abuse at a British Asian female politician.

I don't see the BBC as rage bait, it's Question time where people get to ask questions....if someone spouts rage then at least you know where they stand.

Trump makes me angry but I think that's what he wants....so I turn him off. If the BBC makes you angry then turn it off better for your blood pressure.

I have just said I don’t watch it. But again yes I avoid it and can see why their viewing figures and licence fee numbers are plummeting.

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 10:20

I doubt it is because people are making political statements - far more likely to be the substantial monthly cost and their viewing to be eg more Netflix orientated or DisneyPlus or whatever.

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 10:24

The BBC is known worldwide and could commercialise itself more effectively in the future.

Its useful to know which cultures and backgrounds commit more crimes obviously. Because as the left always tell us, people need to "educate themselves" and the stats tell us which groups need more education about what is a crime and what is not.

The problem is that minority groups have been encouraged to celebrate their ethnicity but the English have been discouraged from doing so (white guilt, reparations for this and that etc). So that naturally and predictably cause resentment particularly amoung the poorer white working class who see minority groups being given advantages that they do not have eg positive discrimination. When everyone knows it wasnt race but class that is the divisive issue in the UK.

PacificDinner · 11/10/2026 10:44

I saw the clip of SB on Question Time. I don’t think she was spouting hate or rage. Quite the opposite. She was showing appreciation towards the English and solidarity with them, while recognising that she has her own unique heritage and place within England tied to be a second generation immigrant who is part of the Indian diaspora.

It feels like people want to misrepresent her for their own political purposes.

Good point. I can also see why Labour politicians come out with self defeating and idiotic nonsense about black labs, pubs and the English countryside not existing. She’s probably surrounded by the same views as those lobbing abuse at SB for self identifying as she does.

Statistics are also used to argue all the so called crimes that men are more likely to commit. Even mainstream parties are happy to scapegoat men with rhetoric like 'male' violence against women. It's not exactly contributing to a healthy cohesive society.

Should those stats be banned?

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 11:30

Jude Bellingham is a much better role model for the next generation on questions of national identity and pride.

I think statistics should be used with many caveats, and I think the teaching of statistics in schools needs to be radically improved.

Which crimes committed by men do you think the statistics are wrong about?

I agree with you on both. I don't actually think stats on violence by men should be banned or suppressed.

Certainly not on the grounds that the data 'creates division'. Ditto for immigrant crime or any other topic.

More data and more data literacy, regardless of which political positions that helps or hurts.

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 11:55

I don’t think anyone is denying anyone anything. I think more likely that the actual English establishment remembers very clearly the disgrace of some who got themselves involved with the Nazis less than hundred years ago and that there is still some deep shame in some circles. And in fact, ethno nationalism has always been deeply unfashionable amongst the English.
