Tbh I wouldn't share that on the small chance that he is not charged, I don't care how lawyered up the Mail is. Look at what happened to Christopher Jeffries.

I think they have written an entirely factual account, so unlikely there would be any consequences from this. They have been very careful.

Telegraph has also covered it.

Still not much fun for the chap if he is not the culprit @Desperatelyseekinglazysusan They are taking an awfully long time to charge him. I know they have up to 14 days, but still.

No but I doubt they care about that. Just that they can't be sued!

The Counter-Terror Assistant Commissioner spoke last week - pretty sure it was Tuesday - and said they were able to hold the suspect for up to 7 days.

It would've been quite easy to find the name anyway as the major news channels all showed video footage of police at the Rotherham address with the name of the street. I'm surprised they were allowed to show this footage before a suspect is even charged. And I'm surprised they've released his name now and it still does not say he has been charged.

He has now been charged and will appear in court tomorrow. They are still investigating the motive.
Sorry - link has failed to materialise, but I read it on the BBC News app.

Just saw this too. I’m not sure why his name was released prior to charge but I assume it was legally ok.

I just read the same. It's unthinkable really. What an awful death.

TigTails · 21/07/2026 15:06

Just goes to show that evil people don’t always look that way.

LuckyHazelFox · 21/07/2026 15:07

We only have to hope after the second blow she knew nothing about it. I'm shaking.

Growlybear83 · 21/07/2026 15:12

It’s just too terrible to contemplate, isn’t it. What a horrendous way for anyone to die.

Devonisheaven · 21/07/2026 15:13

This is absolutely horrific, she must have been absolutely terrified, poor poor woman, bludgeoned 21 times with a hammer whilst in your own kitchen, death doesn’t get much worse than that, what hate filled rage must he have been in to do that 21 times.

LuckyHazelFox · 21/07/2026 15:14

I think we the disagreements we have with politics, we can all come together on this.

Same. It’s beyond horrific. So brave, a 28 year old able bodied male, attacking a 78 year old female (apparently whilst having lunch), and hitting her on the head repeatedly with a hammer, all in the name of ideology.

The absolute BEST of the be kind brigade, who think they are righteous absolutists and that therefore violence is justified against anyone who thinks otherwise, because those others are bad people. They have to be bad right, because the righteous are good. Unbelievable, the state of this nation.

I agree. She was too trusting leaving the door open. But she could never have imagined this horrible scenario. 💐 RIP

murasaki · 21/07/2026 15:16

That is just horrific.

LuckyHazelFox · 21/07/2026 15:19

Speechless really ladies. We all worry about men coming at us one way or another. When we are on our own what are we meant to do against a bloke with a hammer. This is the Russell family all over again.

Absolute evil. Poor Ann, she didn’t deserve that. Just hideous.

I’m so sorry this happened to Ann. Just absolutely horrendous.

KerryWeaversSpecs · 21/07/2026 15:26
