Thoughts on the name Agatha and nickname Aggie?

Thoughts on the name Agatha, middle name Jean, with a double-barrelled surname?

I really like Agatha, and we’d probably use Aggie as a nickname. I know it’s quite a divisive name, so interested to hear what people think…

One thing I’m unsure about is whether people associate “Aggie/aggy” with “aggressive” or being irritable? I’m not from the UK so I’m not sure if this is actually a thing people would notice?

Would love honest thoughts.

My thought -itsa HIDEOUS name and Aggie is worse

Unless you are giving birth to an old lady, I’d choose a nicer name.

If I saw a child with that name I’d think their parents didn’t really want/like them.

@JayJayj , what names would you suggest?

I think every example being a strong woman ain’t such a bad thing!

It’ll definitely stand out from the frilly frothy tide of Ellies and Evies and lilies and Elsies, which is nice.

A 20something Agatha could be very cool. I love it!

I've never heard 'aggie' to mean 'aggressive'.

I think they'll get a good reception in general as they are rare because fairly old fashioned but not 'made up' or too unusual. Some people will find them ugly, but the same is true of all names. I like Agatha and Jean much more than Agnes and I dislike Jeanette which sounds like the 80s (Jean 50s/60s).

I truly love the name Agatha. Slightly less keen on Aggie, but I still like it. I think I would naturally say ‘Ags’ if a friend of mine had the name.

She didn’t ask for names. She asked for opinions on the name.

True but the types of names you like might be completely different to the OP's,, and might explain your strong dislike of the name, @JayJayj .

Just go round pissing everybody off and demand to be called Aggro!
