Thoughts on the name Agatha and nickname Aggie?

Thoughts on the name Agatha, middle name Jean, with a double-barrelled surname?

I really like Agatha, and we’d probably use Aggie as a nickname. I know it’s quite a divisive name, so interested to hear what people think…

One thing I’m unsure about is whether people associate “Aggie/aggy” with “aggressive” or being irritable? I’m not from the UK so I’m not sure if this is actually a thing people would notice?

Would love honest thoughts.

I love the name Agatha, I love Agnes too. But you really shouldn’t care what others think. If you love it, go for it!

No I don’t like it sounds harsh. Aggie is not a nickname it’s a diminutive. I knew an Agnes known as Aggie , she wasn’t very nice so it does put me off.

My kids say “don’t be Aggie”.
I have heard of Taggie for the shortened version.

I don’t like it but, of course, it is up to you.

Just make sure you like Agatha as much as Aggie. My 15 year old DD has refused to be called anything other than the full version of her name since she was 4. She would solemnly remind anyone who used a shorter version ‘my name is X’. Totally up to her.

I hate it. Its very old-fashioned and just not nice sounding. It reminds of that old cleaning show and The Trunchbull.

Aggoe as aggressive is that uk based thing?
Agro yes is what we use.
Agatha is fine..aggie i like..agnes as suggested I prefer.
Once you see the little person with the name being said could be quite fitting.
Old fashioned names nothing wrong with that.

I don’t like the name and yes Aggie does remind me of being aggressive. However we all like different names, I’m sure my kids names are also not everyone’s cup of tea

I don't love it. It reminds of me of the Aunts Agatha from Poldark and from Jeeves and Wooster. Both, umm, formidable women. But I also think it's one of those 'ugly' kinds of names like Ursula or Maud that would seem chic on a sophisticated kind of woman. But I suppose you can't guarantee you'd have a daughter who grows up to be sophisticated.

I love Agatha as a name, for the connotations with Agatha Christie. Every name can be polarising to someone - good idea to keep it to yourself until the baby is here.

my great grandma was called Agnes n she was known as Aggie, apparently tho I was nicknamed little Aggie as I “agged” a lot , for those who don’t know what agging means it’s moaning 🤣🤣 I love the name you’ve chosen and I think Aggie is adorable

I'm used to it as a second name in my family tree. Also.Mary Agnes.
Agatha is a similar vibe to Tabitha.
It always sounds old.
