Elizabeth/Lisa?

I love Elizabeth as a baby girl name but it’s a common middle name in my family. I was thinking about choosing a derivative name like Lizzie or Eliza as a name for my child to be known as and using Elizabeth as the full name on the birth certificate. It would be Elizabeth Anna.
But then someone suggested Lisa. I know it’s dated but it’s really growing on me and I really like the sound of it. I’d still keep Elizabeth as a full name but have her known as Lisa. What do you think?

Lisa & Co is one of Jilly Cooper’s famous ‘name book’ series (now called the romance series). Along with Prudence, Imogen, Emily, Octavia, Bella and Harriet.

All middle class and perfectly lovely names. As a rebuttal to the person describing Lisa as a ‘chav’ name, upthread.

edited to add. And if Jilly Cooper didn’t know class, then…well.

I have decided on Lisa. I like the retro 70s/80s feel and its feminine simplicity. I also love the meaning. I will give her middle names that she can use if she decides she doesn’t like it. I’ve appreciated the feedback from everyone. Thank you.

I’m a Lisa. My polish grandfather used to call me Leisl, which I loved. I have a degree in philosophy. I only mention that because of the hideous - and frankly weird - idea upthread that we are all like Lauren from Little Britain.

I think Lisa is prettier than Lizzie, which sounds harsh with the z sound, and Lisa has a long history at least back as far as Lisa Camilla di Antonmaria Gherardini, who was the noblewoman they think might have been the model for the Mona Lisa. It has also been used in France as well as other European and Nordic countries for a long time.

I think you have made a really lovely choice OP, and it is time for a renaissance (appropriate word choice given the Da Vinci association!)

Think this says very little about the name itself, and a lot about your circle of reference ...
