AIBU to feel horrified at the number of Motability vehicles being provided?

Just read this in the Telegraph about what the Americans think of our welfare spending:

“It also shocks Americans to learn that almost one in every five new cars sold in Britain is provided through Motability, the taxpayer-backed car scheme. The equivalent in the United States would be every Chevy, GMC, Buick and Cadillac sold through welfare. Or every Ford”

One of my friend’s daughters, aged 27, who has never worked, has several children with various diagnoses and is a single parent recently received a top of the range car, got to choose the colour and was given a ‘big reveal’ at the garage when she collected it. She has now been given a new four bedroomed detached house, something my own hardworking children could never manage.

Something is very, very wrong in this country.

No! Communal living facility! Entirely voluntary. Or pay your own way. It could save millions.

Poor people have to go into communal living facilities and be forced to work and have other people look after their disabled children in order to access any kind of basic food and heating.

You understand what a workhouse is right?

Communal living and support to get into work. Childcare so she can work provided by other women in the same situation. And a bus pass.

Parents of disabled kids often don't work because they are providing care.
Their DC may have appointments they need, or struggle with school so the parent has to be there at short notice to take them home.
You can't be reliable in your job if you are away all the time to take your DC to appointments, or having to pick them up from school.
And carers save the state a lot of money.
I know parents of SEN kids. One is a mum who is highly educated. What would you gain from her by putting her in your workhouse? Her little lad has both ADHD and ASD, and she had had to really battle for him to get an ECHP. It has broken her (and she is disabled herself). She manages with a bit of UC and a part time WFH job that she can just drop if needed when her child needs bringing home a couple of hours after she dropped him off at school.
He wont manage in some bland HMO with strangers.

ADHD is highly heritable, maybe she also has ADHD and has never been able to work.

You're a teacher, not an ADHD expert, stay in your lane.

Why would someone who has never been able to work think they should have children? Did they just assume they would get benefits then? If they can’t work would it not have been sensible to stop at one child?

HPFA · 22/10/2026 21:25

Greenismyfavouritecolournow · 22/10/2026 20:43

Not at all. I’d put her in a communal living facility with other women who can look after each other’s children so they can take turns to go out to work. And maybe a subsidised bus pass to get there. A brand new car and a new 4 bedroom house would not be even near the table.

So these kids, whose disabilities may cause them to have severe behavioural issues for all we know, are to be cared for by strangers?

What could possinly go wrong?

Not being able to work does not mean someone can not bring up kids.
And if you didn't notice, the birth rate is dropping. We need more people to have kids.

Communal living facility. And no one is forcing them to go anywhere. It’s a choice to have children in 2026. No one has to have children they can’t afford to raise anymore. Thank goodness.

Children being cared for by strangers ? You mean like nurseries ?

A lot of SEN kids don't go to nursery or school.

If you're going to spout your stupid ideas at least have the conviction to stand behind them and call your 'communal living facility' what it actually is.

Its embarrassing that you think giving your abhorrent idea a different name somehow changes what it is.

You want to bring back workhouses.

Why would the state offer such a thing? Pray tell.

I must have missed the bit where nursery workers are forced to be unpaid carers.

And people with severely disabled kids have great difficulty finding nursery places so I don't know why you think your workhouse conscripts will do a better job.

Childfree women can't even get sterilised just in case they meet a man who wants kids.

It was all wrapped up by the Dealership and she was asked to remove the wrapping with a flourish

What a load of bollox. Why would there be a big reveal when she would already know the make and colour of the car?

We do not need more children. We have robots and ai. There are no jobs and homes for the people we do have. And what jobs are three diagnosed ADHD children with an apparently adhd mother who has never worked going to ‘do’ exactly. We do not more people. Even David Attenborough has stated that the only way to save our planet is to massively reduce our entire population. I suppose he’s envious of the lady in the op too.

Is a robot going to work and pay taxes to fund your pension?

The three in the op attend a mainstream school apparently. Now you’re just picking holes.

So they can film it and put it on social media would be my guess. People are thick!

They can’t get sterilised because they could probably sue the government at a later date. Remove that possibility and I’m sure it could be offered willingly. In some area more than others I would imagine.

I am paying into a pension and investments and have passive income to fund my retirement but thank you for your concern. If they remove the state pension I’ll manage.

ArchieStar · 22/10/2026 21:37

ODFOD.

Didn’t realise we’ve gone back to the times where disabled people shouldn’t be allowed outings or even to be around other people.

Absolutely sick of this fucking agenda lately.
