To ask all the “flat” or “small” chested ladies how did you find self acceptance or self love?

ITanya78 · 21/09/2026 11:46

I was bullied at school for being flat chested and never developed breasts at all, always been very straight up and down. The boys would call me names and plant pictures of busty topless women in my bag. I still get that lurch of shame and humiliation when I see that kind of image.

I can’t afford surgery and not sure I could cope with it anyway. Therapy is also too costly. At 48, I am tired of feeling ashamed of my body, unfeminine and unsexy. There must be others with my body type who don’t have these feelings so I am asking for a bit of help in how to find self acceptance and self love. What works for you?

Have been following Olivia Dean on Instagram and find her confidence inspirational. It’s been nice to feel a little represented for once. I really want to change and feel good and am hoping someone has a nugget of wisdom or two to help! Btw comments about the difficulties of having large breasts don’t help me.

Thanks in advance!

It's not who you are though is it? Breast size shouldn't define you. I know lots of people that prefer smaller.

Additup · 21/09/2026 12:20

The bullying you received at school was horrible. I genuinely don't understand how some people can be so unnecessarily nasty to each other.

You're approaching this all wrong OP. It's not a question of finding self acceptance/self love if you have small breasts because that implies there's something wrong with small breasts when obviously there isn't.

I'm 32B, my breasts are great, sexy and feminine. They still look pretty much like they did in my youth despite breast feeding and going up to a matronly (on my slim frame) 34DD and then back down again.

I know you said therapy was too expensive, but I really would urge you see someone because carrying trauma from bullying for so long is not healthy (and it's probably not just to do with how you perceive your physique).

Goldensprat · 21/09/2026 12:35

I just don't give a shit. There's nothing wrong with me.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend focusing on something like that on social media - perhaps it can give you a confidence boost in the short term to see people talking positively about similar body shapes to you but it also encourages you to keep thinking about it. Would you consiser getting off Instagram entirely?

It shouldn't take up any space in your head. Perhaps that's easier said than done but you are the way you're supposed to be. Bullying is a terrible thing that can leave permanent scars, I know that myself, but bullies will pick on anything.

DahliaDelights · 21/09/2026 13:49

Your messaging that you need to "accept" it is the wrong way about it. Negative connotations.

Think about it from a more positive aspect.

Why would you care what others think of your body, your body doesnt exist for their enjoyment, your being isnt there for other peoples enjoyment, you're not just a body, you're worth more than a pair of mammary glands. Your whole being isnt represented by how big or fleshy your breasts are.

If strangers comment on your body - who the fk are they to think that their opinions is of any concern to you? You dgaf what opinion a stranger has of you, its of no consequence in your life. You're not there for their pleasure. You're not there as eye candy, you are more than that.

If friends or family comment on your body - see above but with bells on, how dare a friend or someone who loves me even think that, or say it, how dare you reduce me to my body.

If colleagues or acquaintances comment on my body - see above but also do they not realise its inappropriate? HR...

If you are not happy about your breasts; explore why? Was it that you thought with bigger boob's you'd have more attention? be more alluring? more feminine? more good looking? more what? What was missing that youre attributing to the boobs? Because it wasnt the boobs... Do you think that a woman is only a woman because of her mammary glands - no you dont, do you think a woman is more worthy if they have big tits? no you don't. But you assume others do? They dont, well the ones who do aren't ones who you want to be around anyway (see above).

And such great clothes to wear. I follow an influencer who looks fabulous in the clothing she chooses to wear, that suit her slender, small chested body.

I’d love to wear the same style.

SlowDorisagain · 21/09/2026 14:00

Yes absolutely, you should love yourself, nobody else's business etc etc. But also, studies show that rich men prefer small breasts. And I think I read the same about intelligent men as well, but I can't easily google that study.

PaulGalicoagain · 21/09/2026 14:02

'ladies', 'busty topless women'...hard to take you seriously OP.

Goldensprat · 21/09/2026 14:04

Omg the answer to having an inferiority complex towards other women is not to try to give yourself reasons to feel superior to them instead. How is that helpful. We're all just fine the way we are.

theneighbourgotmycake · 21/09/2026 14:07

Sport

Some people will prefer big boobs, others prefer small. We're human, and different.

It's pointless (true, but pointless) to tell you that many people prefer smaller boobs, men or women, for very different reasons.

But start finishing races, win competitions or matches, and you will become focused on muscles, power and achievements. You start wearing "revealing" clothes because not only you don't give a shit what people think, but they're more comfortable.

Find the right sport for you, could be anything from hockey to triathlon to karate, and you will forget that you even were bothered about your small chest.

Greenfinch7 · 21/09/2026 14:08

I think the problem is with the bullying not anything to do with your body, which is perfect and beautiful. I don't know how you can come to terms with what happened to you in School, but I do think that would be the solution to all of this.

I was never bullied and am very pleased with my flat chest- one of my favourite parts of my body, actually.

puppysleepdeprivation · 21/09/2026 14:08

It might boost your confidence if you look for attractive women who are similarly flat- or small-chested. There a many of them out there. Find some fashions that flatter your shape. Lean into what you have. I'm not a curvy hourglass shape, but I have an athletic build that's also attractive in its own way. Broad shoulders, narrow hips. So that's the mental image of myself I carry around—a body that's built to be strong and powerful. (Even if I'm not actually that much of an athlete!)

I'm grateful that I don't have the back pain or other issues that can come with having a larger chest. It's also easier for me to find a comfortable bra and tops that fit without showing 'too much' cleavage.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 21/09/2026 14:08

I’m a fully paid up member of the itty bitty titty committee and it’s honestly never been a big deal in my life. It’s not been something I had to learn to ‘accept’. And there have always been loads of gorgeous small breasted celebrities (and pretty much every model), so I’ve never really felt a lack of media representation.

How do you feel about your body apart from your breasts?

NewNewYork · 21/09/2026 14:11

Im self confident because I don't need a man's sexual attraction to feel validated.

That's not a dig BTW, just the thing that clicked for me.

As a young adult I loved it when men found me sexy, i felt cool, like it got attention and people would pay attention to me and what i had to say. Now I'm just like 🤨 ew, fuck off, perv. Stop looking at me. It's all about you and what's in your fucking pants and I'm so sick of it.

I don't need to feel sexy, my body is for me to enjoy, period. Frankly most men will take anything anyway, despite talking a good game and so their validation is meaningless anyway. The gawping ones are pigs that dont deserve a look and the men that matter don't give those signs so they don't "validate" my sexiness.

mummyof2021boy · 21/09/2026 14:14

I am flat chested.
Even after having my son i still am.
I just accept it.
I got bullied a lot.
Now not so much.
I just say im part of the 'ittty bitty titty committee'

NewNewYork · 21/09/2026 14:15

I can’t afford surgery and not sure I could cope with it anyway. Therapy is also too costly.

^ I wish I could find a non-condescending way to give you a hand hold and tell you that I hope one say you can save the money for a boob job and realise that you could literally spend it on something else to make you feel good without seeing yourself through the lens of a man. Imagine swimming in the warm ocean or visiting a spa and feeling^ good, having the best meal of your life, literally anything to nurture your lovely soul instead of "fixing" your healthy body.

indigorising · 21/09/2026 14:17

In the same way large breasted women learn to accept and develop self-esteem regardless of socio-political attitudes.

They are what they. I am what I am. It is what it is. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They are healthy. I am healthy. We’re a team.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 21/09/2026 14:21

Tbh like @theneighbourgotmycake, I got into sport - I mainly do martial arts and weightlifting. I have muscles and feel like my body looks the way i want it to, and does what i ask of it.

Sometimes it makes me a bit sad that i dont have conventionally sexy boobs but otoh, by our age the massive boobs are usually hanging round waist level anyway so not sure how much help they'd be

tanoshi · 21/09/2026 14:22

Every human on earth is here because of a woman's body, and yet the moronic unintelligent think clever it's to shame it.

SeaToSki · 21/09/2026 14:22

I have always been very insecure about how long my arms are..strange but true. I got the confidence once to talk about it with a few of my friends after a couple of glasses of wine one evening. What gave me great comfort was that every woman there had something about her body she didnt like or felt insecure about.

The ones that I thought were the prettiest or most confident had the same issues as me (all be it about different body parts). It helped me to realize that its just a part of being a human being. None of us are perfect either in how we look, or in how we perceive ourselves. Its ok to prefer a part of you looked differently. But I now dont let it impact my sense of who I am .. and I am now able to also appreciate the strengths of my long arms (its much easier to reach stuff on high shelves)

I would suggest there are benefits to small boobs..less under boob sweat, less bouncing when running etc.

I am sorry you were bullied at school. Can you separate their mean behaviour from how they chose to focus it? If you had large boobs, they may have been equally mean about those (or my long arms if I had been there).

Take a look at something called The Work by Byron Katie, there are lots of youtube videos on her working with people (look for the ones by Byron herself). You might find it helpful

IsItBeesThoughLooshkin · 21/09/2026 14:24

I’m sorry you were bullied. I think you have been traumatised by it.

I have honestly never considered my a-cups to be a defect. My sister loves her implants but I would never have them. I really like the way I look.

5128gap · 21/09/2026 14:25

There are many types of beauty and femininity. Focus on those you have. Many beautiful and sexy women are smaller. Look at those with your body type and see how gorgeous they are.

IsItBeesThoughLooshkin · 21/09/2026 14:28

@SeaToSki
Byron Katie is a complete and utter lunatic and nobody should take any advice from her

Ace56 · 21/09/2026 14:32

I don’t think the way you think about this is normal, OP, and I suspect your early thoughts have been moulded by the bullying unfortunately.
Most women with small boobs don’t see it as some kind of defect. I’m a 34B and have never had a problem with men not being attracted to me because of my boobs. In fact, I like them as I think it makes me look more petite and suits my frame. I also don’t get the backache etc associated with larger breasts.

I think you need some therapy to overcome this.

sunshine314 · 21/09/2026 14:33

I don't wear a bra. It feels wonderful. That's how 😄

I get that you were growing up in a time where this bullying was rampant. There was also a lot of racism, so I got both. But you need to move past it, it was ages ago. My friends are jealous because they get awful back pain.

luckylavender · 21/09/2026 14:38

I'd do anything to get rid of mine. Not sexy at all. just a pain.
