They are utter cowards and hypocritical. The same ilk will state they're against the burkha and protests by environmental groups etc. but are happy to mask their faces in 'protest' the reality is they're just nasty specimens of humanity, full of people with self righteous white supremacy tendencies. AIBU.

Do you actually know what the grounds for claiming asylum are?

And if you do, how would you decide who had the ‘right’ to it? Well, via the assessment process probably. Which is exactly what happens.

A quick internet search would probably tell us (as you no doubt know by now?) Do you think people claiming asylum would have access to the internet, and do you think they would search for details? You seem to be saying that millions of people should just jump into boats and come over because no one knows what the grounds are until the process starts!

KeepPumping · 12/09/2026 22:33

Oh wow, looks like the government is really smart and have thought about this, there are actually some laws, it is not just a take your chances free for all!

No, I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying how can you determine someone has no ‘right to claim asylum’ without going through a process to assess their claim against the grounds?

Of course it isn’t, did you genuinely think that’s what I was saying? JFC.

There are grounds > Person makes claim > Assessor determines if they meet the grounds.

More people settle elsewhere than come to
the UK. People have lots of reasons to make that -as you say - dangerous journey. Language, connection, a belief in being accepted. The availability of illegal working has been described as a draw in the last few years but seems to be quite a crackdown on that over the last 12 months or so. Some people have been refused in other countries. Some people have a family member who will seek asylum in a different country and whoever is successful will try to bring the other as a dependent. Traffickers will persuade people the UK is the best place, so they can charge them more as it’s further and riskier. Of course lots of people think it’s to do with benefits but the benefits in other countries are broadly more generous.

So you are sitting in France/EU where you get more benefits but you decide to risk your life because a people trafficker wants to make more money? And you have no access to any information to find out if it is true or not all the stuff you are being told about the UK Magic Kingdom?

If you are travelling from France you would have no right to claim unless you were being persecuted there?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 12/09/2026 22:39

The Times reports from a whistle-blower in the Home Office that most of them are gaming the system with the help of activist lawyers. Does anyone care that the asylum system traduces the real asylum seekers.

Genuine asylum is supposed to be requested in the first safe country you encounter, it is not supposed to be done after looking at a menu of who does the best benefits? So anyone travelling from an EU country should automatically have no right to asylum in the UK?

Asylum does not have to be requested in any particular country, and the claimant is entitled to decide which country they consider safe.

Yes but apparently the UN itself also said that we are granting assluym to those who don't need it..
Our stupid systems are denying genuine vulnerable people help and we can see this with our own bloody eyes !

It's utter madness and now MI6.is saying we've never faced a greater threat from Islamic terror.
96.% of attacks they foil.are from extreme islamists.

But any trainee lawyer could make a case that EU countries are "safe" and deny the claim?

I expect the decision about where to travel to is made a little earlier in the journey, don’t you?

Hard to comprehend what info people use to make decisions sometimes isn’t? I think it’s wild that people have gone to the UAE to live, but who knows what mental framing people use to imagine their lives.

What do trainee lawyers have to do with it? Claims are assessed by the Home Office.

No, you need to explain that further.

There’s nothing to explain, the premise of your question is wrong, the claim isn’t assessed on the last country a person was in, it’s assessed on country of origin.

No, I think people get to Europe then find out that the UK Magic Kingdom is the softest touch for free housing etc. and decide to go for it.

UK provides a roof, but low cash benefits and very strict work rules (though has been poor at enforcing up to around 12/18 months ago).

France, for example, doesn’t guarantee a roof but provides significantly more cash (like, 5 times more or so).

Germany covered housing and heating costs and provided quite generous cash allowance (about twice the amount in the UK) but this has changed recently.

But you’ll believe what you want. Loads of impartial and objective information out there if you choose to look for it.

Quite honestly i think the rhetoric of some media outlets and social media that the uk is the land of milk and honey doesn’t help

Most people on the protests, high 90% are not doing this, they are genuinely concerned about undocumented migrants breaking the law by landing illegal boats on UK shores.

Ok…?

So no migrant has made phone contact with someone already in the UK to find out about reality, it is like the first Europeans entering Tibet and hearing stories of a Great Mountain?
