The polling was paid for - just over £30k paid directly to the polling company. The survey was clearly commissioned by Reform and they very clearly acknowledged that it could be viewed as a donation in kind, which would have to be declared. They also made it clear that they didn't think anyone would find out if they failed to declare it, so there was a clear intention to bypass the rules. Any investigation would have to consider whether or not this payment was actually a donation in kind. Reform claims not, even though it's clear from the documentary that they knew it was.

The second, much larger donation was only hypothetical. They discussed how a non-UK citizen could donate half a million pounds to Reform, despite being an impermissible donor, by pretending that the money had come from his son. The intention to commit a crime was clearly there, but the crime was not actually committed on this occasion. However, there are obvious parallels here with the George Cottrell case, in which Cottrell (an impermissible donor) transferred some very large sums of money to his mother very shortly before she made some very large donations to Reform UK. The police are already investigating these donations so it's possible that the Channel 4 evidence will get rolled into that investigation, which may need to be broadened in scope.

For balance they should look into the dealings of the other main parties .
I doubt they would need to dig down too far to find some nice juicy corruption.

Yes, rightly or wrongly, all political parties/politicians have donors etc. Legal donors.

Feel free to report the other parties to the police if you're aware of any illegal activities. If it's clear that there is enough evidence to warrant an investigation, then this will happen.

If you're just saying that they're all as bad as each other to try to deflect attention away from the exposure of Reform, then I'm sorry, but nobody is buying it.

That depends of course how "clear" it was that they knew this.

I guess the interesting question to explore would be the extent to which Reform had input into the wording of the questions asked. Because we all know that the phrasing of the questions can influence the answers.

We need a government that will sort out immigration and working age benefits once and for all. I would prefer that Labour did it, but they won't. Maybe a lot of us are just going to have to hold our noses and vote reform.

Well, if you have watched the report then you can't have understood it because a lot of the questions you have asked were answered in it.

People who have (apparently) seen the programme keep telling me that the 'police are investigating' but there is nothing in the press, nor any statement for any relevant body.

British "shared culture" has never been solely British. Shaw, Wilde and Joyce were all of Irish heritage, as was Poet Laureate Cecil Day-Lewis. Benjamin Zephaniah won a whole host of awards, and was of Jamaican heritage. The great British composer, Samuel Taylor-Coleridge, had one parent from Sierra Leone. The impact of those of Afro-Caribbean heritage on UK music has been immense.

UK culture has never been a monoculture; the Welsh, Scots and Irish have all made massive contributions. Our early history includes being conquered by invaders from what are now Italy, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and France. The English language reflects this, pick up a dictionary and look up the etymology of a few "English" words.
