What happens with "trans" people at airports?

This is an interesting question. At what point does a person’s wish to be searched by somone presumed to be of the same sex , eg a transwoman asking for a female security officer, conflict with an employee’s right to not have to search someone of the opposite sex? So if transwoman is not allowed to ask to be searched by a female officer that does not seem unreasonable to me.
Speaking for myself as a woman, if my job required me to search women that’s fine but I would not be happy searching a male person however they presented, and nor would I (as a passenger, say) consent to be searched by any such female-presenting male. Some things really are sex specific.
And i have to say just a couple of weeks ago I was patted down quite thoroughly by a female security oficer on returning to the UK. I had no objection but she was very thorough indeed, patting firmly above, on, under, and between my breasts. I understand the necessity and it was ok — she was a woman.

It was found during the search! They let me keep it but oh, the embarrassment.

Yes a trans identified male can ask to be searched by a female staff member, and female passengers could be searched by trans identified males.

This is so wrong. As a women who has experienced multiple sexual traumas it would be highly triggering for me to be searched by a man or transwoman

In the UK this should be covered by the Supreme Court ruling, and they should be searched by someone of their own sex.

Very common for rape survivors to find the prospect of being patted down by a male stranger traumatic, even more so when the power balance lies with the man.

It isn't any less traumatic if that man is pretending to be a woman and attempting to gaslight everyone around him.

In many countries, particularly those that are Muslim, a trans woman would be patted down by males regardless of what their wishes were.

Surely the people who work at the airports do this so often that it just becomes routine to them and they don’t think twice about it? If it was the other way round and the staff were trans I wouldn’t let them search me though.

Plenty of transwomen are attracted to women, lots of them are previously heterosexually married fathers.

because I use a wheelchair I can’t go through the body scanner things, so I get patted down each time.

they’re supposed to ask where hurts first but they don’t always so I do tell them.

I guess if you aren't prepared to pat down a member if the opposite sex then it isn't the right job for you. And that's fine. Some jobs require (sometimes quite intimate) contacts the opposite sex. You accept that going in to them.

I can’t imagine in Turkey they would have any truck with a TW insisting on being searched by a woman or expect a female passenger to tolerate being searched by a TIM

in the UK as a passenger, it should be a person of the same sex
