To think parents should at least iron uniforms

I see some children on the way to school and they look so scruffy, I mean I might be being a bit mean but it’s important to me that my children look presentable, I can’t imagine sending my children into school with a mega creased jumper/cardigan it looks awful.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who doesn’t iron! 👊

CookieClutter · 20/09/2024 08:52

I can't imagine having to iron my kids' clothes. I've got enough other more important things on my to do list that I'm feeling bad about not being able to do.

I don't even iron my own clothes. Clothes need to be clean, comfortable amd fit for purpose. How does being ironed or crease free help with anything? It might make you happier but it certainly doesn't help the kids in any way.

Judge away but if you don't want to be judged in return I'd recommend not voicing thls particular opinion to any parent you care about.

ilovesushi · 20/09/2024 08:53

You must have fancy uniforms in natural fabrics because my DC's uniforms dry without creases.

LikeWeUsedToBe · 20/09/2024 08:53

Massively unreasonable.

Charlemagnee · 20/09/2024 08:54

I also have a weird thing about teeth brushing, if I left it to my husband they would never brush their teeth. I sometimes do it myself to
make sure they are done properly. They will thank me when they are older. I also apply factor 50 on every single day 🤣😩

Of all the many things I’ve worried about for my children, ‘looking smart’ rarely made the list.

The one that liked to look smart did so. The one who resisted uniform with every fibre of his being? Not so much.

It's called my mum actually gives a shit about me so I can chuck my shit on the floor even amongst the wet towels because she will sort it and make sure I have clean clothes for the next day because she's a legend

It's called your mums a mug actually 😂

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 20/09/2024 08:57

@FuckThePoPo · Today 08:51

I do have certain standards but not everyone has to live by them! (Don't even think about pushing jumpers up over your elbows in my presence)

😆LMFAO!!! I do this when I'm a bit hot, and can't take it off for some reason... I shall look around carefully to make certain FuckThePoPopo is not around next time I do it! 😬

We both work full time, we are graduates but climbing the career ladder requires more academic qualifications so we are also studying. Still manage to batch cook, iron, do house work, renovate and waste time in mums net. It's about priorities

And you have several children?

TheKoalaWhoCould · 20/09/2024 08:57

@Charlemagnee

My son goes to school in clean clothes which fit him well. His face and hands are washed and his teeth are brushed. I do not iron anything- life is simply too short. I work a full time job, DS is disabled and needs 24/7 1:1 supervision, and his needs mean we have no support. I am doing my best here.

Please bear in mind when you post shit like this that whilst im resilient enough to just brush it off as you being a judgy twat, other parents whose lives are a bit more strenuous and challenging than yours with the luxury of part time working might find this really upsetting.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 20/09/2024 08:58

I think I might have ironed trousers for the first day of school.

Mine are all secondary now, if they have a hankering to iron I'm not going to stop them, but I'm definitely not doing it for them either!

Suzuki70 · 20/09/2024 08:59

I work 21 hours a week and I haven't turned on the iron since 2018. M&S polo and basic black trousers don't need an iron and I suspect if I touched an iron to the polyester sweatshirt it'd set on fire.

Neinneinnein · 20/09/2024 08:59

Things that are mostly a waste of time - ironing, judging others.

Do you think teachers judge parents on how their child is presented? I bet they do.

I expect teachers have got better things to think about than if little Tyrone, or Shaznay has got a bit of a creased shirt.

By the way, you like this emoji a lot, don't you >>> 🤣

SoupDragon · 20/09/2024 08:59

If you need to iron their cardigan/jumper you're doing laundry wrong. The only time my DC had crumpled jumpers was when they'd left them shoved in a bag and then worn them again.

ladygindiva · 20/09/2024 08:59

birdling · 20/09/2024 07:42

You do you, I'll do me, thanks.
Me doesn't include wasting my life ironing.

This

ChampagneLassie · 20/09/2024 09:00

I’m 41 and I’ve never owned an iron - imagine that! My DP bought one when he moved in for his shirts. Life is too short. I really don’t think it matters with kids stuff. Maybe you should take in ironing if you care so much 😉

I think teachers have better things to do with their time.

At least I hope they have. I'd rather they spend their time -er - teaching - then checking out whether children's jumpers have been ironed.

Dontletthebedbugsbite2 · 20/09/2024 09:00

Oh fgs the OP clearly doesn't mean people who tumble dry/hang neatly/crease release. She's talking about people who send their kids with a crumpled jumper that's been lying in a ball. I like my DD to be neatly presented, if I wouldn't wear something creased to work I wouldn't send her out in it. I don't think it means I don't value her happiness or education.

It’s not working

NettleTea · 20/09/2024 09:00

I iron nothing. crease free easy dry shirts from M&S saw my son successfully through school and sixth form , and hanging on a hanger to dry - likewise his school trousers - how you dry them is 90% of the issue, and he was at a school where uniform was very important (think suits for 5th form)

I MIGHT iron something for an event, but just as likely not.

the only time I pick up an iron is if Im making something, and need to press the seam allowance

Charlemagnee · 20/09/2024 09:01

I’ll post a picture of what I mean

Netcam · 20/09/2024 09:02

Happy to see I have loads of 'no iron' companions on here who have more important things to do.
