To think parents should at least iron uniforms

I see some children on the way to school and they look so scruffy, I mean I might be being a bit mean but it’s important to me that my children look presentable, I can’t imagine sending my children into school with a mega creased jumper/cardigan it looks awful.

OP posts:

I don’t iron a thing other than my husbands shirts.

My 7 year old also does her own hair - I can only imagine how much you’re judging us in the school run😂

birdling · 20/09/2024 07:42

You do you, I'll do me, thanks.
Me doesn't include wasting my life ironing.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 20/09/2024 07:43

I put my kid in jersey pinnies that don't crease. But before that I sent her to school looking like she'd been dragged through a hedge backwards.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/09/2024 07:44

Kids will often pull yesterday's worn but still clean cardigan or sweater out of their bag just as they're leaving the house in the morning. I wouldn't expect any parent to quickly get that ironed, and the creases will drop by the time school starts.

Also, it's fine for you to meet your own exacting standards but fine for others not to. It's a no harm situation, so not something you should be concerning yourself with.

Ficklebricks · 20/09/2024 07:44

That's what happens when you cripple the economy to the point where both parents are forced to work full time just to survive.

Surprise surprise, little Timmy doesn't get a pressed shirt for school. Life is too fucking busy for that Victorian wife shit.

Beforetheend · 20/09/2024 07:44

It’s better for the environment.

Pyjamatimenow · 20/09/2024 07:44

I iron stuff but then I find it crumpled on the bed with dd lying on top of it before she’s even worn it

TheChosenTwo · 20/09/2024 07:45

No thanks.
I’m not wasting my time ironing school
uniform.
You crack on if it’s important to you. There are plenty of things that are important to me that I do spend time doing but ironing is not one of them. Got bless non iron uniform 😂
No it’s not entirely crease free but it’s absolutely fine for our standards.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 20/09/2024 07:45

I just can’t imagine being as judgemental as you OP.
Im too busy getting my own children to school to be so nosy as to notice what everyone else is doing or wearing.

Pandasnacks · 20/09/2024 07:45

How many hours a week do you work OP? How many kids do you have? Are your well ironed kids judgemental and in your words 'mean' like you?

OnlyWhenILaugh · 20/09/2024 07:46

I have very different criteria for evaluating parenting.

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGG · 20/09/2024 07:46

but it’s important to me that my children look presentable,

So focus on YOUR children and don’t worry about other people’s

Flashcardsagain · 20/09/2024 07:46

Fuuuuuuck thaaaaaat

Morechocmorechoc · 20/09/2024 07:46

Great that you have time but some of us haven't even had a night's sleep in years and can't spend precious time ironing with tight work schedules. You have n9 clue about others so stop being so judgy

Auburngal · 20/09/2024 07:47

My mum didn't iron my school blouses.

I don't iron a single thing.

Tip is not to ram the washer so the clothes don't get creased

PawBroon86 · 20/09/2024 07:47

Don't think we even have an iron in the house, life's too short for that

Ohmycarrots · 20/09/2024 07:47

Flossyts · 20/09/2024 07:42

Exactly! My boys sort themselves out and they do an OKish job at it. My 9 yo is spot on now but my 7 yo with ADHD us all over the place but I roll with it 🤣

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 20/09/2024 07:48

Primary - no point
Secondary - I only do shirts, because they look awful otherwise. Takes 10 mins. Don't judge anyone who doesn't though.

SickOfThisSht · 20/09/2024 07:48

You have no idea what other pressures or time pressures other families are under. I’ve bought everything to be no-iron needed as there’s too much going on in our lives to add bloody ironing to the list but it’s also not necessarily cheap to do that. I’d say perhaps you have too much time on your hands to be caring about other kids aesthetics at the school gates. Unless it relates to a child’s actual health, well-being and safeguarding it’s really none of your or anyone’s business and says more about you than it does them that you feel strongly enough to start a post about it.

rainfallpurevividcat · 20/09/2024 07:48

I hardly ever ironed uniforms or clothes, only when DD2 had a stupidly designed pleated skirt as part of her uniform where the pleats would come out in the wash.

Such a waste of time, and I hate the whole concept of compulsory school uniform anyway. If there must be one it should be all non iron and comfortable. I hated it when DD's school swapped comfortable polo shirts for shirts and a tie.

lindsaybob · 20/09/2024 07:48

I suppose I could iron my son’s school shirts. But then he’d just take them upstairs and drop them in a heap on the floor, so I don’t think I’ll bother.

SquirrelSoShiny · 20/09/2024 07:48

We buy non-iron clothing for EVERYONE in the house. Non-iron school shirts are fantastic 👌

MimiSunshine · 20/09/2024 07:48

‘Should at least iron uniforms’

yes that’s the very least thing they can do. 🙄

not only do I not iron school uniform, I mean how creased can a school jumper / cardigan get? I don’t iron my own clothes, other than 1 shirt that I only wear occasionally. My husband sorts his own washing out and also only irons a shirt for the occasional wedding / funeral.

life’s too short for standing ironing.

but I do think the very least you OP can do is not judge other families on the school run.

PicaK · 20/09/2024 07:48

I bought an ironing board in 2015 - still in its wrapper.
Clothes need to be clean. That's important.
Ironed? Nope.

Geneticsbunny · 20/09/2024 07:50

Some families have a whole load of more complicated stuff going on and would absolutely not have time to iron anything ever. Other people just hate ironing and have better things to do with their spare time. Both are equally fine options. As is enjoying / taking pride in ironing. We are all different and that is a good thing.
