My boy died on Wednesday. He was 18. Is anyone around? I can’t sleep.

He was autistic and troubled, he lived in supported accommodation. They found him on Wednesday morning, sitting on his bedroom floor. No one knows exactly when he died or how. He was alive at 01:13. He was dead at 10:30.
He had 3 younger siblings - all young teens living at home with me. I have to stay strong for them and I don’t know how I’m going to do it.

I just wanted to say I’m so so sorry for your loss, I can’t I imagine how difficult this must be.

Fleetheart · Yesterday 05:58

I’m so so sad to hear that. What an awful thing to happen.

HereForFootie · Yesterday 05:58

I'm so, so sorry, that is heartbreaking.

Do you have any any support? Maybe the doctor could give you something for sleep in the short term.

FloofTrousers · Yesterday 05:59

Oh how tragic. I'm so sorry you're going through this. We're all here to support you, even if just words on a screen.

Dontjudgeme101 · Yesterday 06:00

Sorry for your loss too. 💐

Fleetheart · Yesterday 06:01

You know that you will get through this; how have your teens taken this news so far? I hope you can all navigate it together.

watermybegonias · Yesterday 06:01

That is utterly devastating. I am so very sorry. Please just take it an hour at a time, 10 minutes at a time if you need to.

SecurityLight · Yesterday 06:01

He called me on Tuesday night and I missed his call. I called him back on Wednesday but he was already dead and I didn’t know. I am on holiday - the police went to my house several times because they wanted me to be told in person, but I wasn’t there. I didn’t know until yesterday afternoon.

Sending you love snd strength. So sorry to hear your troubles. Winstons wish supportd bereaved children and teens. May be a small comfort to them in this time xx

Boscoforever · Yesterday 06:02

SecurityLight, I’m so sorry. Such a shock and a terrible loss.
Please don’t feel you have to stay strong for everyone. It is totally normal to ‘fall apart’ with the death of a much loved family member. Lean on each other, that’s what family does for each other in times like this, and it is so good for them to see that.
Have you a partner or siblings/friends that can help you too?
Sending you a massive hug, your boy will always be near you as you hold him in your heart. ❤️

WhatsHerNameThingummy · Yesterday 06:03

I am so sorry for your loss, this is unimaginable.

Practically speaking - if you feel it might help, pop and see your GP. It might help to have some AD medication just to help you get through the next days.

SecurityLight · Yesterday 06:04

Teens have all taken it differently. They came back from the beach, happy and laughing. I’d gone back to get something and looked at my phone and seen missed calls from my boys aunty. My partner went out to keep them happy out there for a bit.
My (now) eldest says he feels empty. Middle guy has cried a lot. My youngest is absolutely distraught

I think there will have to be a coroners report because no one knows why he died. So his body will be in a freezer for weeks and weeks.

I’m so so sorry. Lean on those closest to you. You will need looking after too. I’m so very sorry.

SecurityLight · Yesterday 06:06

And I don’t think I will be able to visit him

I am so sorry. Nothing will bring comfort now at these darkest times. sending you love x

OneSparklyGoat · Yesterday 06:09

I am here. I am so sorry for your loss.

I know from my own experience as a child that it will be very difficult for his siblings. But you are his mother and you have a right to the tremendous grief you are experiencing, too.

ForeverTheOptomist · Yesterday 06:10

I am so sorry to hear this. My heart bleeds for you. Losing a child is just so very wrong.

Believe me when I say that I am holding you all in my heart and sending love.

Re sleep - Zolpidem/zopiclone will do you the world of good. Speak to your GP.

And I don’t think I will be able to visit him

With respect to this you should do only what works for you and brings you solace. Nothing more can be expected of you right now.

SecurityLight · Yesterday 06:12

@OneSparklyGoatdo you have any advice for supporting his siblings? Please 🙏
I found my youngest girl lying on the bathroom floor last night instead of in bed, I’m very worried about all of them.
