British Kickboxing has fallen

Well, it looks as though BKC (British Kickboxing Council) are to allow trans athletes to compete in their chosen category. There is thankfully a lot of kickback against this on their twitter feed.

Having done kickboxing for a number of years... how exactly is this going to work without killing someone?

I am wondering just how they are going to get insurance to carry on the matches, after the first lawsuit.

I've done martial arts and fencing and even if you take the testosterone away, females will still struggle against male's in-built weight and height advantage.

My thoughts exactly.
It's horrible it's looking like there's going to have to be an actual body count to reverse this.

FFS kickboxing?

This gets more like a terrifying dystopian novel at every step. Why can't those in charge see how fucking dangerous that is?

And the consent of the woman opponent?

Luckily we all have a sex so there is room for all males and females to participate inclusively, safety and fairly in sport within their own sex. No one is left out. Sorted.

Yikes, I got kicked in the head by a man during a mixed sex training session once, he thought he was holding back and being gentle but, damn that hurt. I'm taller than the average man and quite well built, so it was assumed I could handle sparring with the guys. Nope...not doing that again.
No way should this be okay!

Even without the weight and height it still seems to matter. My 14 year old son is an inch shorter than me and a good 4 stone lighter, but he is stronger and has a more powerful grip, despite doing no exercise whatsoever. I can only attribute that to testosterone.

Crikey! DS is a kickboxer - I used to do karate. The only reason I could ever 'beat' him when he was younger (I wouldn't dare now) is because the disciplines are different and he never did learn to anticipate the 'different' moves and blocks that I used (and I had spent years watching his classes so had a fair idea).

He would absolutely annihilate me now. The girls/women in his class are shorter, lighter and have less muscle that he does. He is a solid mass of muscle (even when he has been lazing on his bum for the past year). He says they don't generally mix the sexes but when they do, he has to 'go light' on the females because he knows he could hurt them. I would even say that a male much lower belt could dominate a female higher belt.

I've seen people in the gym come back from events with injuries, black eyes, bruises - even one of the sensei's had his leg badly damaged in a competition so that he was out of competition for months.

What are they thinking? Sport isn't a flipping 'right' and even so - it should be fair.

are we getting to the point where we might as well just say that sport hates women?

This makes me so sad. I competed in martial arts as a child and teen and it was great for my self confidence and physical fitness. I’d always hoped to encourage my daughter to do the same but it’s going this way there is no way I’d feel she was safe.

Calm down dearie......
It will get balanced out by all those transmen queuing up to fight normal men.

Seems to be a concentrated effort to make sure nowhere is safe for women doesn't it.

Wow - so will it take a woman being seriously injured or killed for these policies to be revoked?

I’m nor certain of it’s to push the ‘wee woman victim’ rubbish (who was it that said they enjoyed being catcalled and getting unwanted attention as a woman?), or because deep down, yup, men just hate women/think they are inferior.

Or en masse refusing to compete against males.

"Access to sport is a fundamental human right".

Yeah, we wouldn't want to deny any men their human right to beat the crap out of a woman and call it sport.

Oh! Well, I'll be ending back my membership and and that'll be the end of 30 years of training and teaching kickboxing based exercise classes, not competing, for me!

I have both single sex and mixed classes but have my own rules about glove work. This would make that impossible!

Or maybe I'll wait for the inevitable request... and make a fuss about it then!

OMG! I may have found the hill I am willing to die on!

I feared this would be the outcome. I responded to the consultation and they contacted me to justify their position- the decision was taken before they even asked the question. I could weep.

Artesia

"the decision was taken before they even asked the question"

I fear that is what is happening in all the sports which have gone this way. I think they have been advised by the usual suspects, changed their policies then posted the consultations, having already come to a decision.
The current under secretary of state for sport, heritage and tourism is Nigel Huddleston, who is also MP for Mid Worcestershire. These decisions, made behind doors by sports governing bodies, have the potential to totally destroy girl's and women's sports. I think it is time that the government stepped in and demanded that sports are categorised by natal, biological sex and not by chosen gender.

Well DS just sauntered in and said that he got roped into playing baseball with the girls as there wasn’t enough girls for a team, so each team press ganged a boy.

He said that he walloped the ball harder and further than any of his teammates and managed to get the balls into the car park.

I did comment ‘I wonder why that was?’

I'm so sorry for PPs who are personally impacted by this.

It baffles me that they can say "access to sport is a human right" whilst changing rules to effectively exclude 51% of the population.
