I was looking for the details of where to complain to the guardian about their headings and positioning for this, but the thread has gone poof!

I think you can complain to the Independent Press Standards Organisation //www.ipso.co.uk

Removed with this message. If this thread can stick to discussing the behaviour of the Guardian it should be fine.

Message from MNHQ: Hello everyone. We think it's very reasonable to want to discuss the issues with this front page - but the thread has become a series of personal attacks on an individual rather than criticism of an editorial decision. We've already removed several posts for breaking our guidelines, but we need to take the thread down now as it's not getting back on track.

MN zapped it.

I emailed [email protected] to complain, here's their contact page: www.theguardian.com/help/contact-us

Ah thanks. What a shame, it was shaping up to be an interesting discussion when I saw it this morning.

Guardian reader's editor for complaints: [email protected]

I emailed the readers editor on [email protected] and I copied in Simon Hattenstone too because I thought the interview itself was offensive and harmful to women.

I'm white hot with rage about the whole thing.

I can't even describe how utterly infuriated I am about the way Eddie's objectification of female anatomy, on a day that we're mourning yet another murdered woman, is being given so much publicity.

Utterly crass, shameful and degrading. I used to love his non-conformity and the unapologetic way he dressed and presented himself.

Now I loathe the sight of him and can't even bear to hear his name.

Go away Eddie!

When MN says 'personal attacks on an individual' are they referring to Izzard? Because it would be fairly difficult to have a critical feminist discussion about the interview without critiquing what Izzard says. getting tired of being a boy and fancying a change.

I mean WTAF do men thinking being a woman is? Is it too difficult for their brains to work out that actually being a woman includes the mess and pain of periods for 25% of your life over a good four decades, the risk and pain of pregnancy and childbirth, the low level but constant vigilance and risk assessment against threat of attack or rape by people stronger and bigger than you, the financial problem of career and pension stalling while raising children, carrying the mental load and most of the housework and childcare whilst holding down less well paid jobs, underfunded health programmes for female medical issues, and being treated as harridans who should STFU if we speak our minds.

It's not about the right to a swishy skirt and loving the feelz of having boobs.

Thanks for the links on how to complain.

Sad the thread got zapped, but understand the MN position.

Without naming any individuals; I will say that the front page of the Guardian was in very poor taste in my opinion.

Didn't see the previous thread but have seen the front page discussion on Twitter.
I think it might prompt some reaction or discussion in people who may not have previously considered this train of thought.

Very, very well said Labobo
You sum up perfectly what it is to be a woman.

I find it sad that a comedian who used to revel in their non conformity has accepted being put into a box.

Report
Floisme · 12/03/2021 17:00

It's a funny old world when an aspiring politician can talk openly about their 'boob envy', when a professional journalist feels no compulsion to explore further, when a 'quality' newspaper can print without comment but, if I want to talk about it, I have to choose my words with the care of a precision engineer.

So Eddie can make personal remarks about our bodies on the front page of a national newspaper but we are not permitted to respond by discussing it, is that the way of things now?

Do you think we could share the front page and headline again, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to talk about then inappropriateness of something on the front of a national newspaper

I think that covers it, yes.

Completely agree with this. I simply boggle with the fact that this is not univerally accepted and understood.

No one is saying that trans people don't face huge challenges around heath needs, safety and discrimination. But they aren't the same as our challenges. Their challenges do not stem from them being women.

cheeseismydownfall · 12/03/2021 17:15

(I am of course talking about transwomen here. Transmen have the double whammy of both sets of challenges)

Report
MightyMike · 12/03/2021 17:18

Eddie isn't considered a woman by another trans woman, it's not only us old TERFs who are fed up with her.
