URGENT Call for evidence GRA

Note to self: the deadline for submissions to the Women and Equalities Committee is this FRIDAY.

I know there are other threads about this but I just want to remind myself and anyone else who hasn’t got round to doing it yet that time is fast running out.

I can’t say I’m looking forward to it because from the headings they’ve chosen, it doesn’t look like they’re really interested in hearing from women, or considering any of it from women’s perspective at all. There still isn’t a real acknowledgment of the impact all these decisions have on women’s and girls’ lives; they seem to be coming at it overwhelmingly from the perspective of exclusively trans people, and it looks to me like they are looking for a way to shoo in self ID regardless of Truss’s statement.

Even the (one) bit about single sex exemptions feels to me worrying like they’re looking for reasons to get rid of them.

But I do hope I’m being paranoid here.

Anyway.

To arms, sisters! I’m looking forward to it like I look forward to doing tax returns, with a side order of existential misery, but I’m girding my loins thinking of the greater good. And I’m going to try not to post on any other threads till I’ve actually done it.

Priorities.

Any encouragement gratefully received!

Bump

MozzarellaMonster · 25/11/2020 20:27

I'm setting a reminder to do this tomorrow!

EdgeOfACoin · 25/11/2020 21:28

I don't think this consultation is aimed at women at all...

Oh well, they'll hear from us anyway.

gardenbird48 · 25/11/2020 21:32

I’ve made a start - will get it finished and submitted tomorrow. Can anyone remember where the guidance for completion was - obvs I’ve got a bazillion points I want to make but it will help to see the structure and language used by someone who knows what they are doing.

ArabellaScott · 25/11/2020 21:55

gahhhhhhhhhhh

thank you for the reminder

GeorgiaMcGraw · 25/11/2020 21:58

If it helps the Resisters website has guidance on completing it. You don't have to answer every questions. I'm interested in the question about the EA2010.

Speak about what you want to speak about. They are going to definitely hear from women this time!

I just know I will end up doing it on Friday.

Because why wouldn’t I?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Link to WPUK guidance, although it doesn’t seem to have suggestions for wording as such. Will also have a look at the ReSisters site, thanks for the suggestion Georgia.

That’s my impression too. Which feels like such a strong, negative message in itself.

And this is the Women and Equalities Committee. It’s just awful.

Sorry - it links back to the same guidance. But if you're on Twitter please retweet both?

BUMP!

I have started this but need to get it finished and submitted tomorrow, to make sure I get it in. (Finding it tough going though!).

Just to check, it says we can submit evidence until Friday - do we think that means it closes at the end of Friday (midnight?), or any particular time? Or do we have to submit BEFORE Friday? (As I say I'm hoping to submit mine tomorrow, but just wanted to check in case I'm still struggling tomorrow or anything unexpected comes up!).

VulvaPerson · 26/11/2020 01:32

Why are they asking for evidence again, when the changes have literally only just been made? I thought this was done with, at least for a while, given activists got everything they claimed they wanted (though didnt really, but what they CLAIMED they wanted..cost down, online access and more trans healthcare)

Why just go round and round? Hoping for a flukey 'win' which will then be impossible to reverse? Just, women will fight it each time, hundreds if necessary, all it takes is one 'loss' and thats it.

fastwigglylines · 26/11/2020 01:42

This is different to the GRA. It's not a consultation, it's a call for evidence.

It's not from the government as a whole, it's from one committee. They can make recommendations but they may not carry much weight. The evidence submitted will be made public, however, and it's important our voices are represented.

Evidence can mean linking to existing evidence online or it can mean your own testimony. So, not your opinion on an issue, but an account of your own personal or professional experience relating to the questions.

No need to attempt them all. Just do the ones you feel strongly about/ have relevant evidence for.

JamieLeeCurtains · 26/11/2020 01:43

Thank you. I'll do it tomorrow.

VulvaPerson · 26/11/2020 01:45

Oh I was under the impression that first there was a call for evidence, followed by a consultation. Must have that wrong, which am greatful for as I am feeling a little worn out now by it all to be quite honest, but if they are still trying to attack, I will keep going. If this is nothing really, will probably sit this one out unless I have a bunch of free time randomly.

VulvaPerson · 26/11/2020 01:46

Or maybe will fill it in 'lighter'. My GRA response took me 3 hours Hmm I may have gone a bit ott and too into details, and basically wrote them a bloody book, which was maybe thrown out as TLDR!

fastwigglylines · 26/11/2020 02:01

There's a 3,000 word limit on this one. (Phew!)

fastwigglylines · 26/11/2020 02:02

You could just pick one question and do that.

This one is different as your own personal testimony counts as evidence.

VulvaPerson · 26/11/2020 02:18

OK am convinced Wink

Would probably have decided to do it in a panic last minute anyway, but will do it some time tomorrow. Will pick one or two, depending on questions..will get there, cheers.
