Helen Steel chucked off mass trespass on moors because others felt 'unsafe' to be close to someone with her views

Helen Steel, for goodness sake. Took on McDonald's and won. Exposed the Met putting undercover police officers into environmental groups and ending up in long-term relationships and fathering children with women members. And now, because she recognises basic biology, stands up for the right of lesbians to be same-sex attracted and has defended others being physically attacked and bullied by people of a different point of view, she is told she makes others feel unsafe and on day three of a mass trespass on the moors she is told to leave the camp so that the terrified people lurking nearby can finally come in without suffering a mental collapse.

@toddyban on Twitter has a thread detailing what happened. A few people left with her. The organisers didn't have the guts to come and tell her themselves.

There are people in that group I wouldn’t feel safe walking alone on moors with, but Helen Steel isn’t one of them.

If only there was a name for something that left people so scared and unable to function normally all the time.

If only there was a treatment for for it too....

But no none of it's a mental illness Hmm

She was told to leave this walk on 3rd day, go back over the moors by herself.

I cannot believe anyone would expect someone to walk over the moors on their own, they’re pretty well known for being tricky to navigate. Really don’t see how that can be considered in any way acceptable.

Incredibly insulting to Helen, 'unsafe' FFS.

Helen Steel is one of my heroes too. Solidarity to you, Helen.

However, this is actually a great way to show how barking mad TRAs are.

Isn't it defamation to allege that someone is unsafe to be around?

Speaking the truth is now unsafe. Who knew

Quietly amused at the idea of a bunch of trespassers deciding that they need to be in charge of who goes where.

Especially as there are suggestions on Twitter that the place where they were camping was a field used by a struggling tenant sheep farmer who needed it for his ewes and lambs.

helensteelbookfairstatement.wordpress.com/2017/11/02/statement-on-events-at-anarchist-bookfair-2017-by-helen-steel/ This is Helen's statement on what happened at the anarchist bookfair at Goldsmith's a couple of years ago.

Those in the mob asserted that the leaflets setting out women’s concerns about the GRA should not be handed out because they amount to violence against trans people. They then used this to justify actual physical violence and intimidation. They didn’t care about the distress caused to others in close proximity, including children. Nor did they care about the trauma they cause to women by surrounding us, threatening us and using violence to silence women’s voices, repeating the patterns women face throughout our lives when reporting sexual harassment or assault or other sexist behaviour.
Women’s experiences are always erased – we are asked what were we wearing at the time, what did we say and do. Always the message is; as a woman it’s your fault, shut up. So what’s new here?

People like this are just scum. Are they seriously suggesting that Helen Steel, a softly-spoken middle-aged woman with a proud history of direct activism, makes them feel "unsafe"? Of course not. They are just lying. It's just another expression of how much they hate women and want to shut us up.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's Helen's moving speech to A Woman's Place UK meeting on why single-sex spaces are important:

Theres nothing more dangerous than a woman who disagrees with men.

“Unsafe”.

Like “transphobic”, another word that has ceased to have any meaning.

I hadn’t heard Helen’s speech before. Thank you for posting Corgi. Powerful, moving and right. No wonder some people are scared of her.

Gosh, I wonder what she did to make them feel unsafe? Maybe she took a turn in the camp kitchen and her cooking is a bit risky? Confused

If anything illustrates the utter useless, onanistic, arsehole character of this movement, it's the vilification of Helen Steel. Helen, the woman who has posed a challenge to structural power her entire life. This movement poses no challenge to any extant power structure at all. It reinforces every single one.

Helen Steel, FFS. Helen Steel.

Wankers.

Has H'S any history of violence? No, so why would people be unsafe around her. F*ck the spineless organisers for throwing her out, I'm disgusted. I only hope that in throwing her out more light is shone on the madness and more people #peaktrans.

"Oh, you feel unsafe here, Brian? In that case, feel free to leave. You'll feel a lot safer that way. Bye".

That's what they should have said.

You'd have to wonder how effective that organisation is to just cave like that. Embarrassing.

Now landowners know that all they have to say is that the LandJusticeUK group makes them feel unsafe, and the group will leave the landowners' land immediately. Right? Cos that's how it works.

Or is that only how it works for certain people?

Unsafe?

From Helen Steel?

For fucking fucks sake how do these eejits manage to get out of bed of a morning?

She has an opinion that you disagree with you hopeless mollycoddled muppets. Grow up and deal with that.

Also, “we’re mass trespassing to demonstrate how important it is to be able to go where you want! Not you, Helen. You have to go only where we permit”. Classic. This is even more incoherent than getting her chucked out of the anarchist book fair for not conforming to the right kind of thinking. Anarchist groupthink. What a time to be alive.
