I guess it's hardly surprising, but here's the GRA consultancy guidance that Mermaids have put out...

I tried to read it. I got so far and my brain refused to engage any further.

TimIsHavingABadDay · 02/10/2018 15:20

I got to 45% of trans pupils have tried to commit suicide. Where do they get their statistics from?

AnonymousIsAWoman · 02/10/2018 15:25

They are based on seriously flawed studies. Transgender Trend did a good piece about them:

FloralBunting · 02/10/2018 15:28

My feeling about the transing of kids is known, but what actually annoyed me about that was the reasons behind the campaigning to remove the 'spousal veto'.

Now, I actually think it should be made so that it's grounds for divorce, but the only acknowledgement in that 'guidance' was that the non-trans partner in the marriage may be abusive. The transwidows thread and the experience of my transwidows friend couldn't be more illustrative of how bloody DARVO that is.

Trinity1976 · 02/10/2018 15:49

These people are batshit. Many of these children who are bullied into transitioning as kids will end up with mental health issues as adults because they decisions that are being made for them are not the right ones.

misscockerspaniel · 02/10/2018 15:54

Agree, they are totally batshit. And deluded. Are they so used to stamping their feet and getting their own way, or are they so moronic, that they don't realise that it is physically impossible to change sex. Dangerous, stupid, fuckwits.

Thank you for posting the link to the Transgendertrend article. Wow 😮 not only are the studies flawed but the report author is worried about how the stats are being misrepresented.

AnonymousIsAWoman · 02/10/2018 16:51

No problem Rumble - the way they use these stats is so dangerous we absoloutely need to keep pointing out how inaccurate they are.

WatchThePotatoesBoil · 02/10/2018 17:04

It was mermaids who co-created the Scouts Trans Inclusive guide, that says kids may start to experience gender dysphoria from 2yrs old.

This is dangerous stuff...

I think this is all heading towards:

"Choose the sex of your baby! - After it's born!"

I very much wonder what is up with the 'no age limit' thing in other countries. I've looked at law summaries in Germany and Austria and it apparently requires quite thorough psychiatric evaluation (Austria insists that the disorder must be irreversible). How early would a psychiatrist diagnose that in practice?

R0wantrees · 02/10/2018 17:38

Mermaids have been campaigning strongly for this since the start of the Government consultation.

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 02/10/2018 17:41

Does anyone feel that the women who took her son to Thailand is trying to change the law to make what she did look acceptable

Bit like retrospective planning permission?

HermioneWeasley · 02/10/2018 17:42

They are AWFUL!

Noqont · 02/10/2018 17:45

This is a massive safeguarding issue.

LikeDustWeRise · 02/10/2018 17:45

Imagine the horror of recognising that you had been mistaken in making your child a lifelong patient and eunuch.

R0wantrees · 02/10/2018 17:46

As an aside, NHS Transgender policies include specific sections for children.

eg From Yorkshire and Humber Protocol:
(extract)
"Gender variant children and young people should be accorded the same respect for their self-defined gender as are Tran’s adults, regardless of their genital sex.
Where there is no segregation, as is often the case with children, there may be no requirement to treat a young gender variant person any differently from other children and young people. Where segregation is deemed necessary, then it should be in accordance with the dress, preferred name and/or stated gender identity of the child or young person.
In some instances, parents or those with parental responsibility may have a view that is not consistent with the child’s view. If possible, the child’s preference should prevail even if the child is not Gillick competent. "

This is the woman who took her (then) son to the doctor because of his preference for girls' toys. And she, or her husband, removed every toy in the house, because they were the 'wrong' toys. Whose son subsequently thought they were the wrong sex.

Gender stereotype appears so ingrained in her psyche she seems to think it's entirely natural.

FekkoTheLawyer · 02/10/2018 17:47

It does look like someone loudly trying to justify their actions and encourage others to do the same so that she is vindicated.

She really does need to just stop dragging her kid through the press and let them have a bloody life, not a 3 ring circus.

Datun · 02/10/2018 17:48

Dear God. If your little girl wants to use the boys toilets, or the gents, you must let her.

Does this apply to toddlers?!!!

I got as far as the bit Other countries have provided TNB CYP with
LGR and nothing bad has happened! States such as Norway, Malta,
Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Argentina

Germany has done no such thing. Intersex people have the option of a third gender that is all.
