Pretty typical "How could she, Transwomen ARE women" etc

BUT it is actually open to comments!!.

To present their case, the author has to misrepresent Masoud. Then in the comments you have a very prominent voice whose approach would meet with Goebbels' approval.

Business as usual.

And the comments are great! Tide turning!

Actually, not even tide turning. Just people realising you CAN say 'but that's a man' without having to then hold hands with Nigel Farage for all eternity.

Keep posting on their comments folks!

We need to tell other people out there.

Did someone seriously just call one of the Grenfell firefighters 'violent thugs aligned to the nastiest in society'? And say they couldn't see how a lesbian woman could possibly be an LGBT rep?

I’m totally confused; the writer says she has never felt comfortable in any ‘binary space’. Ignoring Scottish susie’s comments that even according the the writer’s own blog this is a lie, what does she want? Can she only feel comfortable in spaces where there are both male and female people?? But presumably not because she doesn’t identify as either..?? So she will only feel comfortable surrounded by other non-binary people?? Seriously, wtf would make this poor thing happy?

I think its really worth considering the differences between the author Yas who is very young (there's a reference to being 4 yrs out of school very recently) and Arachne 1960 (who one might guess is a older!) in the comments.

This one made me laugh. (from under the Indie article)

On the one hand, you have Lucy Masoud who, as a black lesbian, has faced god knows what obstacles to progressing in the fire service. And who, as demonstrated by her role in Grenfell Tower, has far more courage than the rest of us put together. And on the other hand, you have pathetic brainless narcissists like Arachne who whine every time someone “deadnames” them.

RadicalFern · 22/03/2018 13:03

What is Arachne thinking?? I don;t understand how people can so spectacularly fail to see the implications of the arguments that they're making...

I loved this comment.

TERF = "Tired of Explaining Reality to F..wits".

Oooh, spot the new acronym in the comments. Apparently dissenters are now ATMs (anti-trans militants).

The author of the article deliberately misquotes Lucy Masoud. That is what people who don't have a valid argument do.

The comments got it, though, which is good to see.

"Her job is to stand up for workers, particularly those who are most vulnerable to being abused". Really? Trans women are more likely to be abused than lesbian women of colour???

Report
OlennasWimple · 22/03/2018 19:40

This is just fear-mongering made up by the anti-trans militants (Mainly, but not exclusively militant lesbians and gay men). (Comment by Arachne BTL)

Does Arachne not pause for even the tiniest of tiny seconds and think, "hey if lesbians and gay men are concerned about this issue, maybe there is something in the claim that TRA ideology is homophobic"?

And how dare lesbians be "militant" - whatever that actually means Grin

Great comments under a terrible article. Crazy to think that even a month ago there's no way that the Indie would have allowed comments on an article like this, never mind that they would - on the whole - be so sensible

Lucy Masoud is a heroine of mine.
She is awesome. Strong, brave, smart and articulate.

Dreadful article - heartening comments. I wonder how long they will be open for?
