Start the rant:

I note that the real mum in that couple didn't get a mention, much less have anything to say. All those mothers showing how they are bucking the system, and then the 'trans-mum' reinforcing the system.

The problem is, Dove is buying into the system wholesale in making the product in the first place. They are trying their hardest to not look like that, but in this ad they failed.

Entire DF reached peak trans and are boycotting Dove. Thanks Dove!

I have written to them directly with a formal complaint and also mentioned it on Twitter on their account - I am so offended and will never buy their products again

Dammit

I like their deodorant, might need to find another one

I haven't watched the advert yet...is it mentioned in passing or made a big deal?

Will look at it later

Fortunately the smell of Dove makes me gag, and it brings me out in a nasty rash (probably not a real enough mum!)

You know what really annoys me though?

You NEVER see a FTT person flogging Lynx deodorant or any other product whatsoever on TV, or opining on what it is to be a "real dad" in the media, or presenting Top Gear, or taking up a place in a male refuge, or winning Man of the Year.

It is always women that are displaced, never men.

Annoying - dove is one of the very few things I can use on my dodgy skin without reacting to it. Advert is giving me hives though!! Grin

Yep, now boycotting dove products.

Yep. Me too. No more Dove in this house.

Brilliant.

You never see them winning men's sports either. Or clamouring to get in the men's bogs.

So, the male of this heterosexual couple is is talking and interacting with the baby, while the female partner is left doing and saying nothing, in a commercial about how mothers of young children can do what they want to while still looking after small children. And rather than saying controlling arse, or why is this relevant?, we are supposed to say cool.

Yy and when are the men going to be displaced by transmen?

OddBoots · 14/04/2017 20:01

What a patronising bunch of clichés.

Yes yes yes yes yes
all of that!

You never hear FTT people talking about how difficult their lives have been, their struggle, their oppression at the hands of violent women.

Or how hard it is to decide which dad jeans to wear to the bowling alley for a night out.

You don't hear any of this from FTT because, like the "real mom" with the transgender partner, they are silenced.

Having had a look i don't think it is as bad as all that. There are a number of women featured in the ad campaign.

TheHouseOfIllRepute · 14/04/2017 20:14

I think its bad because the actual biological mum who gave birth is ignored
Why do so many young women do that awful talking from the throat thibg that sounds grating

It is weird though that the mother of the baby in the couple with the MTT isn't involved at all in the discussion about being a "real mom". When surely she's definitely as much of a "real mom" as the other women featured in the advert.

The whole thing is an awful concept though, as I don't know what a "real mom" is supposed to be.

TheLuminaries · 14/04/2017 20:20

It is pretty shocking that the one whose body had to put in the hard physical labour to produce the baby never gets to say a word about being a 'mom'.

FlaviaAlbia · 14/04/2017 20:26

Ffs, the actual mother is relegated to the background now she's not being a walking womb Angry

I just can't get my head around how anyone could possibly think this is a good thing?

Ffs Dove!

Now I can't buy Dove anymore...

I didn't see anything wrong with the ad despite not being a fan of the transgender movement

The birth mother being ignored in an advert supposedly celebrating motherhood all felt a bit Handmaid's Tale to me.
Definitely didn't feel moved to buy Dove when I went to Superdrug this afternoon, after watching that. You can support trans people without the female erasure.

The transgender issues is neither here nor there - the ad is a load of twee, patronising bollocks. I don't often swear on MN but Dove can eff off with its twaddle about "real moms".

Not that I've ever bought any of their products.

Can someone tell me what FTT is please?

Report
AssassinatedBeauty · 14/04/2017 20:55

Female To Trans, or a trans man. A person born a woman who now presents as male.
