So whoโ€™s up for having a book club on here? All choose one book, read it in a month (for the busy ones ๐Ÿ˜‚) and then come back with a ๐Ÿท and some ๐Ÿซ and discuss our thoughts? Like a digital book club? X

DaisyRaine90 Fri 03-Nov-17 15:09:09

Any book ideas for starters?

Mine is the new Marian Keyes but could also do something more literature-y or classic?

Xx

DaisyRaine90 Fri 03-Nov-17 22:53:31

Anyone??

antimatter Sat 11-Nov-17 17:05:28

I would join. We can make 2 person's for us for now. Others will join at some point soon! I am sure.

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 17:09:58

Excellent what shall we read? X

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 17:12:08

Iโ€™m up for Sarah Millicanโ€™s autobiography, anything by Austin or Dickens, or Catcher in the Rye

Or the new one by Cathy Kelly, Secrets of. Happy Marriage

Any ideas yourself? X

I'm up for joining tardisgrin I love a good book club

Lola247 Sat 11-Nov-17 17:20:00

Ooh what a good idea

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 17:22:39

So happy ๐Ÿ˜€

1 book a week or fortnight? Could be a month depends how busy you are/how fast you read x

Lola247 Sat 11-Nov-17 18:14:56

I think fortnightly could work for most people. Canโ€™t wait

From experience monthly is better. Even if everyone involved reads quick enough it tends to end up feeling like a chore because the only books you read you 'have to'.

Just my penny's worth from being in a few book clubs.

I'm in - especially if the genre is variable.

StripySocksAndDocs Sat 11-Nov-17 18:21:11

I mean otherwise (more frequently than once a month) it becomes chore.

Once a week is way too much too - especially if it's a long book.

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 18:41:36

Monthly sounds great ๐Ÿ˜Š

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 18:42:13

Some months I read a few book And others al I can manage is one

New Cathy Kelly? Or something classic? Xx

StripySocksAndDocs Sat 11-Nov-17 20:31:26

Yes sure - best think about book clubs is the variety of books.

Though you need to set down (I'm being bossy sorry!!) When the month's book is announced (1st of the on the month? Last Friday of the month?) and by whom (with a book club that physically meets this might be the person who hosts).

Ways a book might be chosen here - be an idea that on a certain date a few books are suggested by several users - first to be seconded is the book. Or choose a bookshop that does a book of the week and always go with that?

Set out a few rules like that and we're away!!

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 21:18:32

First Friday or Thursday of the month. Week three we can start making suggestions and first book to get thirds is chosen (unless there is only one seconded) ?? Xx

Book is picked A week in advance to give people a chance to get a copy of it if they donโ€™t have one.

Then on the next first Thursday or Friday the book is open for discussion until the next one is chosen

Xx

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 21:18:55

Does that sound like it would work? X

DontBuyANewMumCashmere Sat 11-Nov-17 21:23:31

Hello can I join?

I'm new to a physical book club and really enjoying it. I'm a very practical reader - it's either a good book or a bit meh - and I never have any literary input (how words or themes are used to express blah blah blah) so I'd love to learn more about this and reading books in a different way.

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 21:29:52

Definitely the more the merrier ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

StripySocksAndDocs Sat 11-Nov-17 22:00:00

Sounds perfect. Shall stop being so bossy now grin.

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 22:05:10

Yeah I know I hate it ๐Ÿ˜‚ I meant to say something self deprecating and humorous afterwards but got diverted by the baby waking x

antimatter Sat 11-Nov-17 23:05:01

Or we can have one which is fiction and a non-fiction one?

DaisyRaine90 Sat 11-Nov-17 23:12:23

What kind of non-fiction? X

antimatter Sat 11-Nov-17 23:18:54

I was thinking of travel, popular science or history, a good biography too.

Cherrypi Sun 12-Nov-17 04:59:15

Iโ€™m up for this too. Always wanted to join a book club.
