2nd and last tattoo for 2nd and last child

I had a stupid tattoo done when I was 18 and vowed never to get another as I felt like a burning hot Stanley blade being dragged across my back...

Fast forward 13 years and I’m really wanting one to reflect my two beautiful baby boys and how much I love them.

I’ve made the appointment and it’s for 21st Nov. It’s only going to be a small infinity type symbols (like a figure 8 on its side) with a feather and my two boys names within the lines.

Because of the long horizontal shape I decided to get it done under my left arm on my upper side/rib area.

BUT I’ve since read so much about this area being agony and now I’m scared! I like to think I’m good with pain but now I’m not so sure! Any other ideas or areas I could get this where it wouldn’t be so painful?

This is it but my boys names instead of the wording shown. Don’t really want it visible to everyone like on my arm as it’s just for me and my husband to see really... x

I only have one tattoo on my thigh and it really wasn't painful, I think because I have plenty of padding. Anywhere bony is going to be more painful.

I have a smallish tattoo on my ribs (covered by the sides of a bra) it’s coordinates and a small design so it was quite stop start and it was fine, no more painful than my hip, lower back or Foot.
I don’t have s particularly high pain threshold and I can’t even remember it hurting!

Thank you both for your replies! I think I’ll mention to the girl that I’m a bit worried and she can advise me for the best - thigh might be my backup area! X

As pp said depend on the padding. I have had a few and the worst was with less body fat 😂 good luck it will be over before you know it and then have forever.

I’m really scrawny so I’m sure it’ll be suitably painful then?! 😂

I think you will manage fine honestly if your dead set on a design and place.
It might not take that long and im sure you can manage it if you think it like it's been one minute another ten to go etc. I recently got the back of my calf done and the artist had two machines one was significantly less uncomfortable lol.

Honestly it'll take less than an hour and you'll be so pleased afterwards. Go for it!
(I have one on my inner forearm and one on my ribs, both cope-with-able)

Thanks everyone :) wasn’t nervous at all until my husband mentioned the pain that area is meant to cause but back to not being nervous again (maybe a bit naive of me!) but I’ll just take it as it comes!!

My first tattoo I had at 21, hurt me so bad I vowed never to get another.

My next tattoo at 29 was so painless I booked another a few weeks later.

It depends on the artist, tattooist, area on your body and pain threashold

I have lots of tattoos and the ribs area was definitely the worst place. It’ll go numb after a while anyway but the first mark is going to hurt.

Update

It was absolutely fine! Couple of moments where I had to clench my teeth and take a couple of deep breaths but otherwise bearable! Having two kids has made me manage pain better I think! Thanks for all the comments! I’m so chuffed with it!
