Ok, am a 40yo frump. Photo of me included.

Have booked in at hairdressers tomorrow for a pixi cut. Hair is currently past boobs. Really thick. I wear it tied back in a high pony tail all the time and need to do something as it's so boring.

So really cropped? A bit bouffant? Something in between? Or cancel the appt?

Don't do it op. I get the whole, I do nothing with but honestly think you will regret it.

I'm worried I will look like Big Boo from orange is the new black. I've ordered a wax stick.

You're not frumpy. You have lovely hair and trendy glasses. A longer messy bob would actually look lovely - you have natural wave to your hair which would be a shame to lose. I am thinking something along the lines of Frankie from the Saturdays when it's grown out of the pixie style she used to have.

You look like you have really good hair...

I could see you with the purple whiff but it is very high maintenance having that for both colour and style (£££)

Do you colour your hair?
If not, how about henna-ing it.
It conditions there hair beautifully and colours look natural but fabulous.

I love your pic, your like a rabbit in the headlights. 😃

Honestly, you've got gorgeous hair, are you sure about going so short? I like long hair so for me I'd probably recommend going a bit shorter first off, maybe to your shoulders in a messy bob variation rather than have it all shorn off.

Otherwise , I'd go for the last pic you posted,

Sorry when I said last pic I meant the blonde lady with the checked shirt. Not what's her name. 😂

Those styles are quite extreme in contrast to your current length and style. It is hard to have very short hair and carry it off in my opinion. I agree with fairylea that a bob would be better. I had short hair for years, it is now in a bob and I think it looks so much softer.

Agree with fairlea, except maybe a couple of inches longer.

Do not do it. With all due respect to carry off a short haircut like that you need an elfin face (i.e. Kylie not Ginnifer Goodwin - both beautiful in different ways only one can properly pull off that cut). Shoulder length messy bob will look much better.

Ha ha, I'm so not good at taking selfies. Ok I'm getting cold feet big time now.

I just thought bobs are a bit dull.

Plus my hair has to be off my collar for work. Mid length is shit for this because it's a pita to put up. So I kind of need short or long.

I'd keep it longish. How about a nice bright colour? This is mine....

Why chop it all off?

Plus NeedANewHairCut, think of the maintenance that a short hairdo requires.

I do dye it but am going ever so grey it needs doing at least every four weeks and again it's a total pain with it being so long to dye it.

Cancel, cancel, cancel - do it now!!!!

You have hair that some would give their right arm for: thick, long, lovely colour. Frump my arse!!

If you feel you must do something, just trim it to a more manageable length - do not, whatever you do, start farting around with layers as they will just make more work for you and you will finish up waiting to grow them out. And definitely no short cut that becomes a daily fiddle faddle.

You have gorgeous hair - enjoy it!

It's only hair, it grows! I don't get why people are so precious. Try it! You might like it!

Colour is high maintenance and expensive, that's he only thing I'd war you off

What is your hairdresser like, can you ask them and tell them what you want in terms of upkeep and styling.

Going from no product to heavy wax stick everyday mighty feel weird. How about Kaley Cuoco, or Jenifer Lawrence's pixie styles. Slightly longer.
