Grunting noisy newborn at night only

Hiya my DS is just over two weeks old, I am ebf and that is going well. He isn't in any kind of routine ATM
I feed on demand which is roughy every 3 hours in the day and every two at night, I just watch for his cues at feed him as and when really. This was all fine however last few nights he has started to become really noisy after his 2.30am feed. We have a next to me crib and he's fed at about half 11 and will drop off fairly easily by about half 12. He would much rather sleep on me or DP but as we have a small dog who joins us in bed we're not keen to try co sleeping. So anyway Hel go down fine then, wake up around 2-2.30 and il feed on and off until 3, or when he takes himself off me. I will wind, change if it's a poo and then nurse him to sleep. The minute he goes back in the crib he doesn't cry as such but makes this kind of moany grunting noise. It gets really loud and keeps us awake. I've tried feeding him, rocking him, burping again, he can be fast asleep but once he lays in that crib it starts. I've had to bring him downstairs and settle him In his bouncy chair thing as Hel sleep fine in that. Is this normal and does anyone have an idea of what it could be? I'd hate for him to be in any discomfort. If you did have this, when did it ease off? Thanks in advance

This is totally normal and just him getting used to his digestive system. I remember how loud it was! One thing you could try is slightly raising the mattress if the side sleeper as lying flat exacerbates the feeling for them I think. Also, we started using white noise (rain) playing it all night when our little one was a newborn to help her settle but then realised actually it's very relaxing for us too! It would block out all the squirming and grunting but I would hear her when I needed too xx

This is all very normal - he is getting used to eating and food going through his system.

For me it started to ease at around 8 weeks. You just need to get through the first weeks sleep wise and do what you think is best - nothing is wrong! If you are happier in the lounge with a cup of tea etc then do what will get you through!

That's reassuring! I don't think it's just a night time thing as I've tried to get him to sleep in the crib today and the same thing happened. I will look into raising the head end slightly as his bouncer is elevated and he sleeps fine in that. Will also get an app for white noise and play that tonight , thanks for ur reply xx

Very normal - ours starting easing at 11-12 weeks... either that or I just got used to it Grin

My DS did this too. I ended up recording it to prove how loud it was! I gave up dairy and he stopped doing it almost immediately, so if it persists, or he has other symptoms (mine had eczema as well) that may be worth a try. DS did put on weight fine and didn't have 'foamy' dirty nappies or any with blood in that you hear about with dairy intolerance so you don't have to have all the symptoms for it to be a factor. He's still dairy free at nearly two.

Same, my LO was unbelievably noisy! I can't remember when it stopped, but she doesn't do it anymore (she's 5m now)

My DD made all the sounds of a farmyard when she was a baby! I got used to it when I realised it was ok, but it really bothered DH as he could never quite believe she was fine Grin
