New man. Personal grooming question.

Namechanged for this one.

I'm in my late thirties, met a new bloke, haven't done the deed yet.

So, the question I need to ask is what do men like these days with regard to pubes. I was married for 14 years and basically just kept things trimmed down there.
Don't want to end up in bed with this guy and have him turned off by my possibly 'retro' style!

I'm happy to keep up with the times but don't want to go all out bald down there if it's not necessary.

Any tips? smile

I do wonder about the motivation of a certain kind of bloke that hangs out on a thread where women discuss their pubic hair and the relative size of their labia simply to have a go at certain female posters

It's a strange way to spend your time

I thought of this thread at work yesterday when i helped a man (50something) change his boxer shorts; it was obvious he'd shaved that area.

I never discuss this type of thing with my friends; maybe i should! I always thought that it's womanly to have some pubic hair (neat obviously and not showing outside a bikini) maybe i'm wrong and out of date here.

One other thing i notice at work is that many elderly women don't have pubic hair; does it diminish with age?
In which case pubic hair is the sign of a healthy young woman?

But the decision to remove or not is the choice of an individual.

BTW AF is right it is a little odd for men to be commenting on this thread, sorry.

Just asked DP and he said he likes keeping it tidy for me, so I dont get hair all over my face grin

Having read the whole thread I just want to add:

Shag Pile

I have a genuine question for the bare babes: is it weird having your clitoris and inner labia (apologies if this is too much information but mine are more visible than they were pre-childbirth) uncovered? Don't they rub on your clothes? Or feel permanently sensitive?

No, but mine are not 'exposed'

IsThisAGoodIdea Mon 24-Jun-13 00:08:06

Well, they're not exactly dangling down! I just, do your outer labia completely close around the rest of it? Does nothing poke out even a bit?

No? Just me? blush

I think well trimmed is the way to go. Problem with hollywood is regrowth and stubble. Plus, by the time your 50 or 60 and decide a bush makes you look younger, it won't grow back.

IsThisAGoodIdea Mon 24-Jun-13 01:18:24

Mind my asking what you use to stay well-trimmed? I have a hack with nail scissors every now and then but, as per my previous posts, I have to take care!

cronullansw Mon 24-Jun-13 06:45:44

Have some of you lot never been in a changing room somewhere? Never realised that vulva differ?

Boomba Mon 24-Jun-13 07:01:39

cron I've been in lots of changfing rooms. I pay no attention to other women's vaginas. I've never noticed anyone been shaved

Old Age will provide masses of us with a free Hollywood (and no stubble/regrowth issues) in the end.

Leg, arm and underarm hair also disappear.

Most women will experience some thinning of the on top of head hair, and in some cases it can be pretty severe.

You know, I wonder if this is why Merkins used to be a thing..youthful bush in manner of downstairs toupeè ? Will google.

bragmatic Mon 24-Jun-13 07:09:46

I guess at that point, those of us who prefer the bushy look can try for a comb over.

CarpeVinum Mon 24-Jun-13 07:11:00

Ah no. Merkins were originally used to cover a shaved bush,, shaving done for reasons of lice etc....and they were also used to cover signs of STDs.

Boomba Mon 24-Jun-13 08:25:50

Haha carpe, that makes shaving seem less sexy!

CarpeVinum Mon 24-Jun-13 08:33:24

I suppose it makes sense though. Didn't they use to shave children's heads at school when the lice fairy visited, cos there were no other options ?

I'm sure we watched a video at school (about a million years ago) watching black and white, strangly dressed children being balded by the nit nurse.

My head is now itchy.

Nail scisors for trimming.
Never looked at womens bits in changing rooms, no.

Apocalypto Mon 24-Jun-13 19:43:13

I am with the Third Citizen in Julius Caesar, Act III Scene II

"Let him go up into the pubic hair".

Actually Shakespeare wrote "public chair" but at my school every single copy of the play had that page defaced in the same way. You want to applaud the effort

As for bush, well, I agree with whoever said the pubes were the fanny so removing it to see the fanny better makes no sense.

I am now off to bleach my nipples away so you can see my tits better.

ecclesvet Mon 24-Jun-13 21:00:54

Apocalypto grin

But historically inaccurate! The Romans removed their pubic hair, as did Britons at the time.

CarpeVinum Mon 24-Jun-13 21:02:14

Apocalypto You're doing it wrong!!

This is what you are supposed to put on your nipples to make them the "right" colour

Or there is a tattoo option if the above doesn't appeal.

Apocalypto Mon 24-Jun-13 21:33:46

fuck nooooooooooo

I'll see your nipple cream and raise you the anal brightening cream

cronullansw Mon 24-Jun-13 23:22:21

Careful, you can't go on using historical proof as fact, when obviously it is easier to blame porn and the beasts on two legs for this modern craze.

CarpeVinum Tue 25-Jun-13 07:35:05

It's not a "modern" craze. Well it is, but it is cyclic rather than exclusive to now. Them Romans were dead frisky and norty. If anything porn and erotica were more mainstream then than it is today.

Wherever and whenever there has been limited access to maintaining personal hygene pubes have had an increased liklihood of being whipped off as the norm and in some cultures the practice has carried on beyond the past limitations of keeping down below clean and uninfested.

And past high visibility (in the popular culture of the time) of porn and prostitiustion probably did play a role back than in the popularization. Becuase sex workers were at a greater risk of catching things like pubic lice, had an economic need to stay as "clean looking" as possible and a personal need to be as comfortable as possible by making it easier to keep fluffy bits critters at bay. If the "Sexy" people are protrayed with nudey bits in a highly visible manner that can influence the spread of the practice in the wider population.

It's not a new thing. It's a thing that has had a come back. I'd be surpirsed if it was just a massive coincidence that it has happened as porn has in recent times penetrated the general culture via ease of access making sex worker practices highly visible again. And I don't think is it all that startling that old "copycat" habits have returned in conjunction nor that the "cleaner" fallacy is still attached to the practice.

So in the interests of research I did a little trimming and got carried away, ending up removing enough to upholster a small armchair. I am left with a small trimmed triangle/parallellogram at the front, but top sides & underneath all gone.

FWIW DP said its nice, but he hopes i didn't do it because of him, as he'll be happy if I want it back the way it was. However, during sexy time he said it is a bit easier to manoeuvre his way round and it looks very 'neat', so can see the appeal. I quite like the feel of it but have found it a bit itchy already (mainly from the shorter hairs that are left, rather than the lack of IYSWIM).

So, conclusive evidence it is not, however, I have now been on both sides of the fence this week and can categorically say its not that big a deal to me or to DP either way. I won't be taking off the last remnants as I don't want my bits to look like a plucked chicken and DP's very kind offer to follow suit by shaving his into a heart shape and adding some 'pejazzling' was politely declined.

MyPhoneIsMyWorld Tue 25-Jun-13 18:04:18

pejazzling grin
