Hello, can anyone offer any tips? My ds has just started at primary school, he was just 4 in August, born 6 weeks early. He hasn't suffered from being prem other than what I think is a developmental delay with his speech and writing. He has had help at pre-school with speech, and since starting primary the teacher has requested a speech therapy assesment for him. In addition his writing is miles away from the level his classmates are at. He has never been even remotely interested in writing/colouring or painting and this is now very evident. It's a nightmare trying to engage him in homework, jolly phonics, which requires him to draw a simple picture of the particular word, drum, dog etc etc. His pictures consist of large scrawly lines on the page. It is very hard to hold his attention, he would rather be babbling on about tractors and diggers, or gazing out of the window, or putting the pencil in his mouth. It's getting very frustrating for me, him and his dad. The only thing we can interest him in is reading, which he will do no problem. Does anyone know how we can make writing fun and something he would enjoy, or offer any advise on ways we can work on his speech at home?
