Low-carb bootcamp

Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

Grin

Just a word of warning - if you haven't done this before, you may find the first few days quite difficult. Cutting down on carbs as drastically as you may be can lead to carb withdrawal, so you might feel headachey and generally not well. It's called carb flu.

If you do feel like this, make sure you're drinking plenty of water (which you should be doing), eat plenty of fat (which you should be doing), and make sure that you're getting enough sodium, potassium and magnesium.

For sodium, make sure you're using salt - cook with it, and add it to your food. You might also consider having a hot drink made with Oxo or Bovril or Marmite.

For the other electrolytes, good sources are salmon, avocado, spinach and natural full fat yoghurt.

It should only last for 3-4 days, and when it's gone, you should feel much better, and full of energy.

I'm looking forward to getting going and have added my horrendous weight to the spreadsheet, I hope someone else will put their real weight.

BIWI · 11/10/2015 23:04

Is it your weight from just now, or did you weigh this morning?

Don't forget that if you weigh later in the day that you're weighing yourself plus all the food/drink that you've eaten!

So it's best to weigh first thing, after you've been to the loo and before you put any clothes on.

Thanks for getting this all going again BIWI. Weighed myself this morning with my son who said "Wow Mum that's a big number isn't it" Well yes son, thanks for the Sunday morning boost. Nothing like hearing truth from a child!

I'm down near the bottom of the list with you whitershadeofpale and I'm heavier so lets do this! this motivation may disappear quickly

whitershadeofpale · 12/10/2015 00:39

Well just think Zucker if we stick to it we'll never have to see that number again.

It feels good to know that a few of us are starting from a similar point. I've been low carving, but not as strict as bootcamp for 8 weeks or so and I've lost 8lbs pretty easily whilst being pretty immobile.

"Are you ready?"
well its a loaded question truthfully, no. No i am not ready. But i need to be. Signing in for another bootcamp tour. Not that you will recognise the name. Posting style might give me away but meh. Will stand on the lying machine tomo morning and take an average but at a guess it will say around the same amount as it did the first bootcamp cos I am stupid and eat stuff i know i shouldn't carby wheaty stuff

Zucker ds once said to me (whilst i was trying on a new dress) 'wow mum that dress makes you look really fat.' yep thanks for that ds. it was actually the one that made me look least fat I believe it comes under the joys of parenting for which we make them pay as teenagers by us just being alive and thus embarrassing them. Boiled eggs mashed with butter for breakfast and drinking my first pint of water.

Oh dear. Getting on the scales wasn't a nice experience this morning Sad I knew it wasn't going to be good, because I've been off piste for quite some time now but didn't expect it to be quite so bad.

Ah well. The only way is downwards!

And the disclaimer:

I'm not a medic or a nutritionist - I have no specialist training of any kind. Anything I write or recommend here is based on the reading I have done over the years, and my own experiences of low carbing.

If you have any kind of long term medical condition, and/or are on long term medication, please see your GP before you start Bootcamp. This is particularly important if you're taking medication for blood pressure.

Please let me know if there are any issues with the spreadsheet and I'll fix them as soon as I can. Also if you've added to the spreadsheet I will sort the order out later.

Morning all. Well, weigh in done. As I had never low carbed before, I have been doing boot camp light for the last week to get the hang of it. I have lost 2.4lbs, so very pleased. Want to lose about 20 more pounds, so if I could do half of that in boot camp, I'll be really happy.
Having my coffee with cream now. Breakfast and lunch were prepared last night to take to work with me in a minute. Hard boiled egg and avocado for brekkie and tinned mackerel and salad, with total Greek yoghurt for pud.
Good luck and happy eating everyone.

Oh, and I will add my weight to the spreadsheet once I have downloaded Google Sheets ( as recommended on another thread) to my iPad.

Yay thanks for the thread BIWI - very glad to have the discipline of bootcamp back, to keep me on the straight and narrow! Weighed in at 12st 6. Aiming to lose a stone (or more?) by Christmas. Will update spreadsheet later.

B - coyo and ff Greek yog
L - tuna mayo salad with boiled egg
D - not sure yet

Report
SayrraT · 12/10/2015 07:32

Let me know if that works Hunt I don't have an iPad so can't check it out.

I really need to stick with this BC as I've just faffed around and since doing well on the Blush 2014 January BC I've pretty much STS or, like now put on weight Sad

My trouble is I am an emotional eater; I eat when I am sad, upset, worried, happy or just content! I enjoy BC eating much more than other WOE so I don't understand why I let myself slip.

Will record my food each day (if I can manage) to help me keep track.

B: BPC, FF Greek yogurt
L: Prawns and crayfish tails in a marie rose sauce with lettuce
S: Babybel
D: Fat head pizza (I forgot about the almonds in this so will have it tonight since I bought all the stuff then the usual BC no nuts rule will apply)

First weigh in done and I'm aiming to lose 9lb this Bootcamp. I'm starting straight in on Bootcamp Light since I'm breastfeeding my 6mo DS4. I'm also wrestling with the challenges of being dairy free and egg free due to DS4's allergies. My biggest challenge is fighting off my DH's eccentric approach to low carb: not enough fat and a tendency to go off piste that he seems to get away with but which details me.

BIWI · 12/10/2015 07:41

It's just not fair is it, StuntNun, that men can get away with that kind of behaviour!

Morning all.

Been messing with low carb for a while but not properly. Need to loose at least 1 stone this boot camp and will need a virtual and probably real kick up the arse.

Had lots of lovely food delivered yesterday, so prepped and ready to go.

Will also log food and water here too if that's OK.

B FF Greek yogurt, chai tea with coconut oil and double cream.
L omelette with salad
D chicken with chorizo in a spicy sauce.
S pork scratchings / babybel (if needed)

Got my jug of water chilling in the fridge and my water bottle ready to take with me today.

Have a great day everyone and Thanks to BIWI and SayrraT

Morning campers!
I too need to download the app before I can add my weight. I only have a couple of lbs to lose having been LC-ing for a while but I'm joining in for motivation and to curb the ridiculous amounts of cheese I've been snarfing recently. AND I ordered my wedding dress at the weekend and there is zero wriggle room for added chub so I need to stay on top of my weight, especially over Xmas.
Breakfast: total yogurt, coffee & cream
Lunch: chicken thigh stir fry with veggies, coconut oil & cream
Dinner: chicken wrapped in proscuitto with green beans and celeriac mash

Woke up this morning feeling motivated, it's amazing what a spreadsheet can do.

I have been sticking to lc since last bootcamp and was maintaining till recently, seems that autumn evenings and lighting the fire makes me drink a lot of red wine so knocking that on the head now and sticking strictly to bc from tomorrow as I now need to lose 5 lbs.

Day 1 is unfortunately bc lite as I'm munching my weekend leftovers as dh is away for work.

Breakfast. Double espresso with wholebean soya milk & double cream

Lunch. Quail egg scotch egg made with lc sausage meat and a mix of crushed pork scratching tiny bit of ground almonds, smoked salmon and cream cheese salad.

Supper. Tofu in chilli peanut sesame oil satay sauce with beansprout noodles and bok choi

Morning fellow bootcampers, I hope you are all well and raring to go.

I weighed in this morning at 10st 12.4, lowest for a very long time. I’ve not eaten much this week at all though as I’ve got some pretty tough stuff going on at home and my appetite has vanished. Even getting something little down me has been a struggle.

I’m so much happier when I’m not on and off the scales though so DH is going to hide them today and I will not be weighing every week, maybe every few weeks instead. I’d still like to be on the spreadsheet though if poss, but if this will skew the results, I’ll bow out Sayra?

Today’s plan:
B: 2 x black coffee
L: Will try to eat something from M&S
D: Got some chicken out so will try to make a curry with coconut oil and cream, plus cauli rice with added butter

I know I am supposed to eat three meals a day on BC, but I really can’t manage that right now. Do you think this will be ok?
