Brexit

So the good times are about to roll....are they?

I wanted to ask on another thread, but they are all bunfight-y.

I am a remainer so I feel very depressed about today. I would like some reassurance from brexiters about what I have to look forwards to.

I'm afraid 'taking back control' isn't clear enough to me, so an explanation of what will be different if that's the theme you will go for.

So far, since the vote, my family has lost £10,000s and my husband's current job/role has been placed in jeopardy. I have probably lost the ability to automatically continue to work in an EU country in under 2 years time (I currently live in Germany, though this was intended to be temporary). I have dear friends relocating out of London since the banks are shifting jobs due to Brexit so I'm not sure who I would be moving back to. My house is worth less and I'm less likely to be able to sell it if I do want to move. I'll need to get the kids Irish passports if I want them to benefit from the EU.

So cheer me up - we're set for a brighter future aren't we? What can I look forwards to?

Well, at least we know those who fought for it will stick around if things get tough:

One less twat if things do go wrong: A silver lining perhaps?

I too would love to hear leavers opinions on what positive things they believe will come of Brexit.

I'm still confused about why anyone would want to leave unless they are racist, bigoted, ignorant, or gullible.

sorry no can do. I don't think it's going to be a brighter future in the short term. I think it's going to get rather miserable (think late 70s early 80s Britain) but maybe just maybe it will be OK in the long term.

I'm so annoyed I didn't move my money on the 23rd June last year like lots of my immigrant friends did. Most of our savings is in pounds which depresses the fuck out of me but we've got some in Aussie dollars and I'm thinking to move some to Euro.

Do you mean your house in the UK or Germany will be worth less?

I can't wait. The Brexiters keep saying how lovely it's all going to be so now I'm like totally stoked. Who needs details?

Thanks to those that have replied so far. Given my emotions about today it would be very easy to start banding about insults but I really, really, want to hear something good.

Getting rid of Farage is kind of one, though he's such a lazy twat he couldn't wait to leave once he saw there might be an actual job to do. He's much rather preen in from of the camera and give soundbites than do an actual job.

I'd love to hear too. They're so dogmatic and defensive that I'd love find out what they're actually optimistic about. Just soundbites and growling that I've heard so far.

I'm sad today.

My London house. We were in the midst of a relocation on 23 June so I know what the valuations and market were like before and since.

My husband and I are both being paid in £ but spending Euros... we've effectively had a 25% pay cut since June. The package we settled before the vote.Like I say, it has cost us a lot in real terms already. I almost daren't look any further forwards.

I think 20-30 years down the road the Britain will be doing much better than it is now in a economic sense.

However the next 20 years are going to make the Great Depression seem like a walk in a park.

A big concern is the tanking British economy, Trump and the rise of the far right in Europe it won't be long until war breaks out.

Of course there are going to be winners and losers from Brexit.

EU membership benefited the rich and well off.

Lower incomes not so much or not at all and sometime even negatively with wage compression and pressure on school places and other public services.

I cant offer any good news to you, you will be financially worse off for at least the next 10 years.

herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 12:50

How will those on lower incomes end up with more money in their pockets southall?

Lower tax receipts and an economy likely to go into recession. Plus the ending of EU grants in 2 years time and any amount needed to 'settle up' with the EU.

Haven't the Tories already proposed us having the lowest corporation tax in the western world? How is that going to benefit the old, the sick, those in state education?

I'm given to understand we shall we benefitting from incandescent lightbulbs and overpowered toasters and vacuum cleaners. It's a revelation to me that my fellow citizens have been sitting in the dark, eating raw toast Grin and paddling ankle-deep in dust for 40-odd years.

Why shouldn't 'the rich and the well off' take their money, taxes and spending power and move out of the UK (believe me, some already are). That's not going to do a whole lot of good for the economy either, is it?

I think 20-30 years down the road the Britain will be doing much better than it is now in a economic sense.

I will be retired then. After decades of shit economy will do nothing for my savings and pension.

Is there any point in the likes of my family staying in the UK? We have only ever made a net contribution economically (DH and I are 40).

You see, I hear this bandied about a lot, but why? On what are you basing this prophecy? That fact that we'll be able to sell more arms to Middle Eastern countries?

If it makes much more sense for you to uproot and move then do it.

You would be stupid not too.

You'll be able to see your GP really quickly and won't have to wait at A&E because the system won't be overloaded with immigrants.

I think I saw that on a Brexit advert.

There you are. Brighter future assured.

southall that is the conclusion we are coming to. We're already out of the country, (though still paying UK taxes) so it's just about where to go next.

You have to wonder how many net contributors will leave though - where will the UK get all its higher rate tax payers from?

Yeah. All the factories that closed are going to reopen. They're going to make, god I don't know, strawberry jam or something. Which we can sell to the Commonwealth.
