So Leavers what happens Friday if you win? What's the plan Stan?

Hello...My name is Showme..and I am a remainer

But I am also pragmatic, and a planner. My concern is the Leave campaign has no Plan. At all. Nadda

For me with objectives you have assumption oh and plans. I see an awful lot of we will be x better off, there will be x less of blah blah. But how?

So they win. And on Friday what? Day zero?

Well the 'Leave Campaign' is not the government so can't DO anything. What the government do with the vote is up to them I guess.

So

So people are voting to leave the EU but without understanding what and how that will pan out at all over any timescale at all

Ignoring any legal or constitutional issues I guess what will be left with is a government or governments that could be potentially hostile to the referendum and as there is no driving force (as there actually was for the indeyref with the SNP) but instead a disparate band of people with few afflictions apart from wanting to be out of Europe

So we are chancing our hand with that? Effectively an abyss that causes a recession.

Well, it rather depends on how much they win by. If it's close, it seems likely there would be some further negotiations with Europe probably led by Boris (that's got to be what he's hoping for!). Whatever happens, it's likely to happen slowly, with much uncertainty.

If it's a landslide vote to leave that's another story but that seems unlikely.

Not afflictions (tho might be apt) I meant affiliations

I think it is highly unlikely Boris will become leader tbh either a mid way nominee or a general election

Either way uncertainty for years - and highly unlikely when anyone actually analyses the Leave claims that they will ever happen. White elephant?

It seems to me that about 75% of MPs are against Brexit so who knows. Boris and Nigel don't get to decide under the current democratic process.

So I have to ask - what is the point in leaving? They don't have a plan. They can't have a plan. They don't have a team to get a plan. And the people who will possibly create a plan are against the whole premise

BUT they have promised the world (or just the UK) that leaving the EU is effectively a cure-all. Wow

Nothing... It's a public opinion referendum.

It's up to Parliament to decide.

Dave will either resign and force a leadership election - I predict Teresa May. or if he has any balls, sack the Brexiteers. Either way he or his successor will have to trigger an exit and start negotiations to leave.
And he can try and live with the consequences of the shit storm he's created just to appease ukip supporters inside and outside the Tory Party. Vote Remain - why stomp out of a club you need to work with, no matter how annoying it is.

Showmethewaytogohome · 21/06/2016 21:34

Right so if it just public opinion (I'm aware that the government doesn't have to follow through with this technically) Why is this not made clear?

I am not being derogatory when I say there are an awful lot of people who think from Friday it all changes. Immediately. The the immigration 'problem' will stop etc. Benefits withdrawn blah blah. They feel an empowerment which actually won't happen.

Funny how the brexiters have nothing to say

I'm frankly rather frightened about what will happen if Leave wins and the "immigration problem" doesn't melt away (which is what will happen) and the NHS is still underfunded and overstretched.

Exactly. All this passion and anger - with no direction, no action, no plan and no one to direct them....vacuum for the far right?

what % of MPs are pro Brexit?

Potentially we would have a leadership battle while reluctant MPs, civil servants and lawyers try to negotiate for something that almost half the electorate don't want.

There has been a lot of negative talk about experts and bureaucrats during the campaign, but they would have to sort everything out.

Interesting...

They are going to take back control. That's it. Take back control. Repeat after me - TAKE BACK CONTROL.

Report
Titsywoo · 21/06/2016 21:59

Well there is nothing to say because noone knows. It takes years to get out and we would have to see what happens and the government would act/make changes or whatever accordingly. But what could happen if we stay in the EU - that could be bad as well which is the whole point. Leave is about how people feel about the EU and how bad they think it is for this country.

Report
Showmethewaytogohome · 21/06/2016 22:03

Ghost So Leave is just a feeling about taking back control? A feeling? A need. But not an actionable plan.

Not understanding how that will be done. The time frame. How and what it means. So just some words. Some spin effectively to make people feel they have more control about their lives.

I have no need to repeat ineffectual words I'm afraid. Logical thinking requires more than that

Even if I didn't believe that remain is right for our country ( and I occasionally have doubts which is I think good) I would still struggle with the void that would/will come

I like reasonable certainty. Yes we may not know what will happen with the EU but at least there is a starting point to create assumptions from

A void is a void is a void. I am impressed that many brexiters have no qualms at all about their decsion

Do you understand what a public opinion referendum is? We are just voting on what we feel about our membership of the EU. That's all that you should think about. What the government decide to do with that is not our decision until we have another general election.

If Leave wins, it would be the start of a process. Discussion and negotiation. See Article 50. It is all laid out.

The Government triggers Article 50, not the referendum. We remain part of the EU, functioning as normal until a withdrawal deal is agreed, or two years elapse from the date of notification of withdrawal (or the EU agrees to lengthen this period to continue negotiations). Or we can just leave without a withdrawal agreement but that is unlikely.

openeurope.org.uk/today/blog/the-mechanics-of-leaving-the-eu-explaining-article-50/

I haven't come across anyone expecting a magic wand to be waved but for any such Leaver, there's a Remainer crying that the sky will fall in on Friday morning.

That appears to be the case. Johnson, Gove etc have been pressed on detail and they have continually failed to answer.

I think the problem is that many people voting out PiL seem to think that if we vote out, that's it and the borders shut on Saturday. It's presented as 'you decade's, not 'offer us an opinion'.

Actually talking to DH on Friday if leave wins then we invoke article 50 then the EU say fine to leave OR we want renegotiate. If the government decide to renegotiate they will come back to us and say here is the renegotiation do you want this or do you still want to leave.

Happy to be corrected on this but I think it is correct.

It will all be long and drawn out I think.

HHmm Titsywoo

Actually I think I do. It is not a 'feeling' That is NOT what I should be thinking about thank you

Do you have any idea how many people think this means as from Friday we are out of the EU. That they 'are taking back their county' as a PP has stated - this is how the brexit campaigners have rallied people to vote for them

But they are wrong - they are just reflecting a feeling? Really

BTW you are constitutionally incorrect a new election is not required. Also the current government has said they will accept the result and mandate (at the moment)
