Bloody show - potentially stupid question

This is my first pregnancy so please excuse the stupid question.

Is it possible to miss the bloody show?

I've had two sweeps now, a week apart. Last week I was a fingertip dilated and today I'm 1-2 cms dilated and my cervix is now soft, but I haven't seen anything suitably snot like.

The obstetrician who did the sweeps said that she'd been able to do a really good sweep today and thought I'd go into labour soon, which makes me think it must have already gone if I'm that dilated and she was able to rummage to that extent.

Or am I just wishful thinking because I'm near the end and impatient?

I only had a bit of blood nothing much. Labour will come in the meantime rest as much as possible. Also try to do so once labour has started. Good luck x

I never had a show at all with my first! Contractions first, waters broke around 4 hours later and baby was here an hour after that.

I had a bit of bleeding when I was 39w. Waters broke two days later. No show though unless I missed it too!

I did notice my show first time round, but it was really small, tiny bit of blood/mucus, so I think it would have been really easy to miss.

Good that you are on your way to 2cms already though - I was having painful contractions by the time I was 2cms so sounds good to me if you're there without feeling anything! Good luck

Thanks for the reponses. I don't feel quite so silly asking now.

I had a tiny bit of what looked like mucous a few days ago but didn't think there was anywhere near enough for it to be the show.

Still not having any contractions that I'd describe as painful. Just feels like i'm having strong braxtons. I'm sure I'll be glad of not having had much pain so far when it really gets going, but right now I'd just like to have some kind of idea that something's definitely happening (if indeed it is)!

Oh Backwards, the only certainty about childbirth is that there's no certainty. I've had two spontaneous births with no intervention and I still have no idea what a show is supposed to look like - it just didn't happen before things got critical (ie the stage where I didn't care one way or the other). My waters didn't burst beforehand either (and since I laboured in a pool both times I have no idea when they did come). Best of luck with the strong Braxtons - the best thing you can do now is just go with the flow (as it were). Lots of deeeeep breaths and relaaax.

I'm starting to really appreciate the no certainty thing.

I'm just a little frustrated because due to a medical condition everyone was sure I'd go early, so I've been ready for weeks now and especially for the last month. Now here I am at term and just so ready to meet my wee man!

Having much stronger tightenings now. Feels a bit like period pains mixed with wind but still not hugely painful. Should I be timing these? Or just focus on other stuff til I can't any more?
