Agnes- too old ladyish?

DH and I tend to go for more old fashioned names, others we're considering are
Martha
June
Ivy
Nancy

DH has suggested Agnes because it was the name of a relative who was very dear to him and I'd like to honour that but wondering if it's just too old fashioned?

It’s lovely, and Aggie is a cute nickname

Ploppymoodypants · 23/03/2018 17:34

Or Nessy

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 23/03/2018 17:36

It is very old fashioned and I don't think your dd will thank you for it tbh.
How about using it as a middle name?

CountFosco · 23/03/2018 17:37

Of your list I like Agnes best then Nancy.

mumgointhroughtorture · 23/03/2018 17:38

I love Martha and Nancy is ok

Eliza
Lydia
Evelyn

I don't know if Agnes is just a little TOO old atm. Nickname Aggie? Could you add it as a middle name?

mayhew · 23/03/2018 17:39

Agnes Nancy!

Enidblyton1 · 23/03/2018 17:40

I've always like Agnes, but I think it's one of those names that really suits very beautiful, supermodel types. A fat, spotty teenager called Agnes might wish she was called something else.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 23/03/2018 17:42

Ooh I love Eliza! We already have an Esmé though so not sure if they'd be too similar?

That's my name and I've hated it with a passion all my life and never forgave my parents for naming me that.

PalePinkSwan · 23/03/2018 17:57

Really don’t like it, or Aggie. Just an ugly sound.
Sorry.

HobnobBob · 23/03/2018 18:00

Really don’t like Agnes, it’s so ugly sounding. Very harsh.

TheVanguardSix · 23/03/2018 18:02

I love the name Agnes. It is such a cool name.

TheVanguardSix · 23/03/2018 18:03

I love Agatha as well.
Agniezska
Anouk
Anoushka

SAMlady · 23/03/2018 18:03

Love Agnes, and Agatha too

Belphegor · 23/03/2018 18:03

Agnes is horrible. I don't usually say that about names but to me, this one is. It's the hard, back-of-the-throat Ag at the beginning.

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 23/03/2018 18:04

Love Agnes!

villainousbroodmare · 23/03/2018 18:04

It's terrible. Only Agatha could be worse. The only thing that saves it is the potential nn Nessa. Nancy is the best of your list imo.

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 23/03/2018 18:04

Makes me think of this

Love Agnes, we called ours Joan.

Wetcappuccino · 23/03/2018 18:07

Senga?

ReversingSnail · 23/03/2018 18:07

I like Agnes and June.

Apparently Ines (French) and Agneta (Swedish) are versions of Agnes too.

No it’s awful sorry.

Ruffian · 23/03/2018 18:08

Really like Agnes but probably because I associate it with cool stylish french women I can't bear Nancy.

Esker · 23/03/2018 18:09

Lots of babies are called Agnes at the moment. It is quite trendy / hipster (or was a couple of years ago). So I would worry more about that than being old - ladyish. However, for why it is worth, I do think it is a nice name.

photographyaddict · 23/03/2018 18:11

How about Agnes as a middle name? Ivy Agnes works well
