AIBU?

For not washing my shopping?

It seems like on mn everybody is doing this but I don’t know anybody that has admitted to it in real life.
I’ll admit, I have become a little bit worried about it, but I’m partly too lazy to wash and wipe all my shopping, and also do not want to let myself get that obsessive. It can become a never ending cycle of cleaning (in general, not just shopping) and I think I’d find it hard to break in the future. I don’t want to send myself crazy.

Yeah, I'm not either. I just can't bring myself to.

I’m not sanitising my shopping either.

I'm not either. The potential for cross contamination is huge so I see little point in doing this.

I didn’t do it With the shop I did at the end of week 1 lockdown. I did this time. Just a bowl of hot soapy water and a cloth, quick wipe, nothing excessive. The rest of my house is not cleaned, so I don’t think I’m getting obsessive.
As an aside, I have what I think is covid and the only places I’ve been are work (teacher) or Tesco. I think work was too long ago (before shut down) and too recent (days I’ve done supervising essential workers’ children) to be responsible. I blame Tesco - but the shop itself I think rather than the unwashed shopping.

I’m the same. I’m extremely careful with everything else but I think washing the shopping would tip me over the edge.

I am not washing my shopping. In fact, reading a thread about how to use (multiple) gloves properly is the first I've really seen of it.

Are we meant to?!

I’m incredibly thorough, but my youngest has SN and underlying conditions, so I can’t risk her health.

Me neither. Just feels a little bit 'that way madness lies', each to their own if it makes others feel better to do so.

I have dettol spray and some kitchen towels to give things a quick wipe over before I put it away, anything that come out of its packaging does. But I do have 2 household members who we have to shield so I'm having to be extra careful. For those with "normal" immune systems and no conditions I could see why you would chose not too.

I don't. I have OCD and its controlled right now. If I go down that road it won't be anymore.

I'm not doing it. I wear disposable gloves, use lots of hand sanitiser and wash my hands thoroughly when I get home and after I've put it all away. Like a pp said, washing the shopping would tip me over the edge.

I've been washing my shopping and thought everyone else had too! Ha! So this has been enlightening.

I am higher risk though, so I guess I'm not completely crazy.

YANBU. I am at home with a 2, 3 and 6 year old with SEN. I honestly haven’t got the time or energy to be washing each individual food packaging item we have. I can barely manage the house at the moment let alone sanitising food packaging.

No way am I doing that. I wash my hands regularly and don’t touch my face. There is no professional guidance saying you have to wash shopping and quarantine post.

I wash my hands after unpacking it but I don’t wash the shopping. It’d become a slippery slope to being obsessed for me if I started it.

I detolled all deliveries to begin with then got tired of it. Might start again though.

Not washing shopping
Not wearing gloves
Not wearing a mask

I am keeping my distance, reducing my trips out and generally not touching anything I don't absolutely have to touch.

Not washing or sanitising or quarantining any shopping no. No and no. How long must that take?

Report
Topseyt · 08/04/2020 21:33

I don't either and have no intention of starting. That way lies madness. Nor do I quarantine my post or other deliveries.
