To eat my daughters Easter eggs and Easter Chocolate?

DD has got 7 eggs (2 large, 2 med and 3 small) plus the extra packs of sweets/chocolate they come with, a lindt chocolate bunny and a chocolate lolly.

She’s 3 and is going to her dads this weekend where she get yet more chocolate probably another 6-8 eggs (probably med size) from her dads family which will get sent home with her minus the chocolate packs that come inside.

I don’t mind her having a bit of chocolate or a handful of haribo and I’m pleased so many people love her and want to treat her (she has 3 great grandparents and is the only great grandchild on both sides so gets spoilt by them without adding in that she has 5 grandparents and parents who’re separated so buy separately for her and her godparents buy for her as well) but I feel that 13-15 eggs is too much for such a small child.

WIBU to eat the larger chocolate eggs/chocolate and just leave the packs of sweets/chocolate that come from the inside of the eggs? I will be melting some down for cookies/cakes/ice cream sauce over the next week so she’ll get those too, so it’ll just be a bit.

I’ve got no Easter Eggs so feel it’s only fair my DD shares.

I wouldn’t eat my little boys Easter Chocolates - they were bought for him from friends and family as gifts and are for him to enjoy not me. If I wanted some I’d just buy my own.
She doesn’t have to eat it all now, DS is still eating his Christmas chocolate and has quite a bit still left, we just give him a little bit every now and again.

Mintypea5 · 17/04/2019 18:02

My eldest lasted him until Christmas last year . He's have a little bit for "pudding" in the evenings (he was 6)

Puddlet · 17/04/2019 18:02

I would. Its a ridiculous amount of chocolate for one child.

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2019 18:02

Personally I've never done this, but it does seem like a lot of chocolate.

I'd ask her if she wishes to share if you really must. I'm sure she will say yes,

MoistMolly · 17/04/2019 18:03

Am I reading it right? You bought your dd so many eggs, knowing full well that the rest of her family will be buying her lots of eggs too?

Yabu to buy her so many in the first place.

WorraLiberty · 17/04/2019 18:05

This depends on whether she actually knows about them.

If she does, then do the decent thing and ask her to share.

Remember also, chocolate can keep for a long time in the fridge so there's no immediate hurry.

Every year these threads get filled up with people saying "Tee hee! You're doing your kids a favour by 'looking after their teeth'" etc.

But in reality, some kids learn to binge eat because if they don't eat them quickly, another family member will.

gamerchick · 17/04/2019 18:05

To make it fair? Is that TIC?

No, those eggs will last all year for chocolate. You can't eat the bairns Easter eggs man just because you don't have any.

user1474894224 · 17/04/2019 18:05

I think it's your duty as a good parent to eat them for her sake. 😂

HarrysOwl · 17/04/2019 18:06

I agree, far too many for your DD. You must send them to me instead...

ChocolateEverywhere · 17/04/2019 18:06

I haven't bought her a single easter egg, I never do as I know she gets so much. My mums bought her some, my granddad bought her some and her godparents bought the rest. The others will come from her dad and grandparents on his side of her family.

YANBU except that at 3 some of them will remember how many they had or a certain one and be very upset if it goes missing. So it depends on your DD.

Alsohuman · 17/04/2019 18:09

I wouldn’t. Chocolate doesn’t go off in the fridge.

ChocolateEverywhere · 17/04/2019 18:09

She knows about some of them, but isn't that fussed about them IYSWIM.

She has chocolate or sweets a few times a week, so isn't deprived and I don't think creating bad habits.

I’d give them to a Food Bank or other similar charity.

Banhaha · 17/04/2019 18:11

Does she know about the eggs yet? If not then save some or donate to a food bank? If she does know then tell her she can have them all spread out over a few weeks or share them?

Next year maybe drop subtle/not so subtle hints about Easter egg alternatives. :) like you say it's lovely she has so many people who care about her.

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2019 18:14

You can't eat the bairns Easter eggs man just because you don't have any.

This made me properly laugh 🤣🤣🤣

Op. Ask her. She has an opinion. They are hers. Let her have her say.

AnnieMay100 · 17/04/2019 18:14

Definitely, there’s no way a 3 year old would get through that amount on their own even if you spread it out. My children have around 10 each they’re older but I’ll still be nicking a few Blush Most of them can be melted for baking or donated if you have other children in the family to buy eggs for.

LongWalkShortPlank · 17/04/2019 18:14

This is why I got my daughter (5) a few small bits and bobs that weren't chocolate instead, it's a lot of chocolate when everyone buys them an egg. We still have chocolate from Christmas. I think you're fine, it's just chocolate, it's certainly nothing to be precious about. Let her pick 3 special ones just for her and say the rest will be for sharing and cooking etc. You could even get a big container and have fun smashing all the bits lol. Better for her teeth, health and her expectations of Easter.

BeanBag7 · 17/04/2019 18:15

I'm planning to eat some of my daughters ones (she's 2). I prefer to give her chocolate buttons as they're small and don't take up as much space as Easter eggs and are easier to ration.
We have asked people not to get her chocolate but I know shes got at least 4 eggs from great grandparents - "it's just a small one".
So I'll probably eat them myself and buy her 4 packs of buttons to last the year. She is too little to remember them or know what they are. I suppose from next year I'll have to do something different.

I haven't bought chocolate for any of the nieces and nephews under the age of 5, for this reason.

Bagpuss5 · 17/04/2019 18:16

This type of thing comes up regularly on MN.
So it's ok for a child to eat 15 eggs??
Absolutely not - bin them. Ok if she can happily eat a small piece for pudding after her main meal for the next 6 months but as that is a feat no one I have ever known in my 60 years of life would be able to limit themselves to it is better to bin them.
Making a huge song and dance about the little bit she is allowed might lead to future food issues.
Think of her health- too much sugar and fat, think of her teeth too much sugar, think of her sleep chocolate contains caffeine. If she complains tell her it is too much at one time,

charlestonchaplin · 17/04/2019 18:17

I'm surprised you need to ask but then I read these responses where people seem to view this as some sort of theft - from a three year old! I would have thought your child's health and developing healthy attitudes to sweet treats would take priority. I think it would be bordering on neglectful to feed all that chocolate to such a young child.

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2019 18:19

I don't think any one is suggesting the op feeds the child it all in one sitting 🤣🤣🤣

And here's me considering eating the only Easter egg my two year old has got..... Yeah definitely you can eat one or 3!

BackforGood · 17/04/2019 18:21

Saw something on Facebook recently
"Say no to childhood obesity............ Eat your children's Easter eggs"

I like the thinking Wink

Seriously - by 3, she will have an opinion and will understand they have been given to her. I think I would ask her if you can share. As you say she isn't bothered, then I presume she would. If she wants to keep them all, then again, no problem - chocolate doesn't go off - you just ration it out from now until it runs out and you probably won't need to buy any more sweets until Christmas. Win win either way.

HJWT · 17/04/2019 18:22

I would!! I told family this year no chocolate ! My nan gave her money and DM a nice new jacket, she will have 1 egg from us and some bits in her basket! More than enough for a toddler.
