To eat my daughters Easter eggs and Easter Chocolate?

DD has got 7 eggs (2 large, 2 med and 3 small) plus the extra packs of sweets/chocolate they come with, a lindt chocolate bunny and a chocolate lolly.

She’s 3 and is going to her dads this weekend where she get yet more chocolate probably another 6-8 eggs (probably med size) from her dads family which will get sent home with her minus the chocolate packs that come inside.

I don’t mind her having a bit of chocolate or a handful of haribo and I’m pleased so many people love her and want to treat her (she has 3 great grandparents and is the only great grandchild on both sides so gets spoilt by them without adding in that she has 5 grandparents and parents who’re separated so buy separately for her and her godparents buy for her as well) but I feel that 13-15 eggs is too much for such a small child.

WIBU to eat the larger chocolate eggs/chocolate and just leave the packs of sweets/chocolate that come from the inside of the eggs? I will be melting some down for cookies/cakes/ice cream sauce over the next week so she’ll get those too, so it’ll just be a bit.

I’ve got no Easter Eggs so feel it’s only fair my DD shares.

It's just a basic thing to do.

If she was older, yes.

I just don’t necessarily see any benefits to a discussion about it at that age because they’re unlikely to grasp the full story, why so much is bad for them, why they can have some and not others, why well meaning people buy them anyway.

I’d treat it the same as if someone bought them a dangerous or unsuitable toy. Make it disappear rather than get into a complex debate about why the action has been taken.

Oh I hated those kids on the road who’d know exaaactly how much of what eggs they had left!
“I got 15 eggs and I have seven left plus half a kitcat egg, a toffee crisp and some crumbs of a flake”
The same miserly kids years later are watching every penny they receive, blugh!

Anyway, I digress, she’s 3 ffs and it’s only food not gold! Eat it, melt it, save it, let her have a day of being Bruce Bogtrotter if you want but steer her away from being one of life’s miserly aul Easter egg inspectors!

I would pinch an egg definitely, if she is going to get that many. Maybe donate a couple to foodbanks, and the rest to her.

My kids are allowed one egg each. Family moan that I'm being cruel. And insist on buying an egg anyway. I tell family ect that if they buy my kids an egg it will be eaten by me or DH so it's up to them if they want to waste their money. Kids don't need that much chocolate.

I remember the ambition was to get seven, one per day, to last the week. Grin

It never happened. I always got 4-6. I was much older than 3 at this point obviously.

My mum did this once and I’ve never forgotten it Shock

She thought I’d forgotten about the eggs and then had to fess up when one evening after dinner I said ‘ooh I’ve got some Easter eggs left, can I have some for pudding?’

NEVER forgotten it, I tell you.

I would break all the chocolate up into one container to go in the fridge and let her have some at a small pace.

ha I've polished off surplus for the last 7 years - my DD was sick all over the floor when she was 3 because she ate most of one of the large kinder eggs her granny sent and it was far too much for her.

Can the DM really not find any news to write about?

Loving some of the Daily Mail comments Grin

"Yep I am with her I always eat loads of my daughters"

Makes a change from chocolate eggs I suppose...

Food bank. Or the local homeless shelter. DD has done this so much that she separates her own chocolate into 'things I like' and 'for the homeless children'. Grin

Bloody hell DM this must be the definition of #notnews surely? Slow news day or what 🙄

I'd maybe ask to share bits of opened ones, but I wouldn't take any.

I would look at ground rules going forward though. Why are any of them buying a big egg for such a young child? Are they all getting sweets too? Could you ban sweets until she's finished the eggs then maybe say a small bag once a month max?

We'd still have Easter chocolate from last year if we hadn't assisted in eating some.
Dd (she is 5) gets tonnes of chocolate at christmas, we work full time so there isn't time in the week for her to have any and weekends she gets a little bit, but not much and only if she has behaved well and eaten all her tea nicely. Therefore we still have Santa chocolates, chocolate coins, Haribo, lollies. Basically a celebration tub that is full and Easter items are already arriving.

Now granted we don't eat much of it, maybe a fun size bar of something here and there so we won't be planning on eating entire eggs, but we might sneak a piece or 2 if we are desperate for a pick me up and only once she has already cracked into them.
I'm pretty sure she's still going to grow up to be a respectful, kind and caring person as she's bloody lovely already and if a bit of chocolate is going to change that then there are much bigger things I should be worrying about.

My Mum invented that slab chocolate they sell in hotel chocolat! I have two sisters, and if we had ten eggs each from grandparents/godparents/aunts etc. So 30 + egg boxes to store. She melted all the chocolate down from the eggs into a lined Swiss roll tin, then sprinkled it with all the sweets - smarties, jelly tots, smashed crunchies etc. (This was the 70’s) it was then easy to break into manageable pieces that we could have on a Saturday watching the Generation game. And it was shared with Mum and Dad too.

Yanbu. I always 'helped' my children eat theirs. I thought everyone did. No way would I have let them eat lots of eggs themselves. Far too much for children.

I can't believe that an adult actually feels hard done by about having no Easter eggs Confused
Teach your daughter that food actually does last if you leave it in the cupboard and encourage good manners by suggesting she shares a bit with you (if you're so desperate Hmm)
