to ask why are we not rioting?

our political system is in chaos....we have a PM who has lost vote after vote...a useless Opposition....no one seems to know what they're doing and if any thread on here is indicative of anything, there is considerable support for no-deal and considerable support for dropping the matter altogether...why are we not rioting? seriously? I don't understand why we are sitting passively by and watching this shower of shite happen/not happen?

How will rioting (damaging businesses, injuring people etc) help to solve the political issues?

Report
Alsohuman · 26/03/2019 08:54

What good would rioting do?

You know what I mean...why is this not bigger?

There was a giant protest in London the other day. I assume you were there

Backseatonthebus · 26/03/2019 08:57

And how would rioting help? Other than using up hugely stretched police resources and causing damage to other people's property of course.

Go on then

Be the spark that ignites it all

Do you have a solution then?

Do you remember the riots years ago? People injured, homes and businesses wrecked, looting....we have enough problems. Look up the stories of those few days, a young family whose house was set slight but going onto the street with kids to escape was dangerous. You really want that!

Over a million people shuffled through the streets of Westminster on Saturday to demonstrate against Brexit, and if there was any violence or antisocial behaviour at all I've yet to hear of it. I was there and although I've never been in such dense crowds for such a long period before it wasn't threatening at all. Depressing to see that some feel government won't pay attention to that or to 5m+ signatures on a petition in under a week, but might change course if there was violence on the streets.

There's not much that can be done.

There has been marches, letters to MPs, protests, petitions. We haven't hit actual rioting yet but England rarely does, and it does nothing but damage communities and businesses anyway.

The people are just as split as Parliament, there is no one ideal that everyone is fighting for, and most people are fatigued. They are just trying to navigate day to day life.

If someone came up with an idea that a large number of people felt passionate about and could support, maybe there would be more, but we're stuck in shady politics and a large amount of people ignoring this because they don't understand it.

It's because we are far to British! And the only people who riot are only interested in causing damage and mayhem not addressing the root cause.

Because we're British ☕

Yeah. Let's riot. That'll achieve loads. If you feel that strongly, I hope you enjoyed your opportunity to voice your opinion in London over the weekend - I'm assuming you went to the protest?

I think it might kick off in small fractions where those type of people who use any excuse to instigate violence use it, but most people are sensible and know it’s the last thing we need and damage to business and property and further over stretch our emergency services helps no one

Are YOU rioting, OP ? ...Are you going out and smashing shop windows, terrifying people on a minimum wage who work in the shops on the high street, damaging people's cars, burning buildings, threatening violence on random passers-by who you think look different you you....? ...If so, I'll look for you on the news, hopefully getting arrested.....

The French have a riot on. Very expensive and messy with many injuries. We prefer to march, sign petitions and grumble on social media.

I think the more worrying thing are those misguided loons who are threatening the politicians as they go about their daily lives ...
Rioting is just the collective form of this and invites others with other agendas to hijack the cause and create mayhem.

Its working out a treat for the yellow vests in France. Every single clearly stated demand has been met by a government eager to oblige them.
Not

British people only riot in the summer. If this was happening in July there'd be more trouble.

Incompetent as they are politicians have been careful not to spark riots, even farage has shut up quite a lot..but not enough imo. Rioting comes from anger not apathy.

I don't pretend to have an answer for you, OP, but do you think one of the factors may be that we are so strongly divided into two camps ourselves rather than being united against Parliament?
Remainers and Leavers may be equally frustrated at Westminster, but there is such a gulf between Remainers and Leavers that we could never unite over that divide to riot against the establishment.
That may be part of it. Also no history of rioting. I think you probably do need a history for that type of thing for it to happen.

??

It wasn't the biggest march, it was very white which is apparently a bad thing, also it's a weird situation where they used the same metrics to rubbish Trumps claim about the figures at his speech which put the numbers to around 400,000

www.wired.co.uk/article/brexit-march-peoples-vote-crowd-size

So the fun game now is Trumps claim is either correct as there was a million people on the march or the guy is only wrong about the thing in which we believe in.

But riot about what? For what? To abandon Brexit? To get on with Brexit? (Civil war??). To oust TM? To call an election? (and vote in whom exactly?).

Unless we have a clear aim it becomes nothing short of a tantrum.

Well, if the food and medicines start running out and prices rocket by £££ then there will be rioting, that's for sure. Sad.
