I don't really get the 'look at my shoulders' tops. What for?!

I only opened the thread to see what a potato top was.

Still don't understand. Grin

I am also curious what a potato top is! 😂

So-called potato tops because that's what wearers shoulders look like - just like a couple of spuds peeking out of these clothes! (ie rounded and pale shoulders).

I’ve never heard of those tops being referred to as potato tops.

I also actually disagree about the trousers. A friend of mine is around a size 14 and petite but looks great in her trousers of a similar style

I quite like cropped trousers but I think you have to be super thin to carry them off. "Potato" tops? Whatever they're called, yes, they're awful.

Proper Grin at the potato top explanation.

I know them as 'cold shoulder' tops but 'potato' isn a good description. Sleeves or no sleeves but not holes.

Cropped trousers - flapping around your legs with a sock gap - not a good look! And on short people, well, how to make your legs look even more shorter (stubby).

I suggest just buy real clothes - ie tops without the functionless cut-aways and proper trousers that finish at the end of your legs!

I’m too tall for cropped trousers, they look ridiculous on me!

Show shoulder tops, I’m never really show what the point is? So I’ve never worn one

Cold shoulder tops can look quite good IMO if you have nice defined shoulders to show off.

Cropped trousers, I'm not a fan. Maybe if you have exceptionally good (or warm) ankles? Grin

Those cold shoulder tops could be ueful if you are having an injection maybe?

In the long run, a top with complete shoulders and full-length trousers will be classics and therefore more sustainable items to invest in.

Whereas potato tops and cropped trousers? We'll all look at them in years to come and wonder what we were thinking of ...

it's a free country, you hate, don't buy them, easy.

I do like both, and they are real clothes. The tops are a bit different, and great even for women who are a bit self conscious about flabby arms but bored of always wearing the same thing. There are worst things to show than your shoulders, and I like the look.

I like crop trousers too.

There's something to wear for everyone, there are plenty of clothes I find hideous but others seem to love.

I agree with you OP. I'm only 4ft 11 and I could never wear cropped trousers as they finish just above my ankles Grin

Also I hate with a passion any top that had a scooped / low neck as I always want to pull it up let alone one with holes in the shoulders I'd freeze!

The amount of tops I've thought "ooh lovely" only to see they're missing half a sleeve Sad. I approve of the term "potato top".

Cropped trousers are fine in summer but the bare ankle + sock combo is just ridiculous. Dr Who chic has no place in winter.

the beauty of this country is that you can buy classics in Hobbs or Reiss and Fun items in Primark or New Look. Not everything has to be a classic!

Potato tops are great for showing off your crappy, faded 80s/90s upper arm tattoos (should you want to)

Cold shoulder tops are great if you want to go sleeveles, but dont want to inflict your bingo wings on the general population!

Cropped jeans are a summer staple but I have never been able to do cropped tailored trousers

Nah - I don't like them either OP.

if that makes you happy SaucyJack, go for it. I wouldn't advise you to do so for an interview, but otherwise, knock yourself out.
