AIBU?

To move out because I cannot cope with adult children

No point saying make them move out - not possible or practical.

But I need some peace, I have work at home to do and I can’t do it because am being pestered all the time.

I’m looking at places to rent. Am I insane?

Yes you're insane. Why isn't it possible for them to move out into house-shares or their own flats like all other adults have to do?

Not quite sure what to say here. Of course you are being insane.

Do you currently rent? If so, announce you're moving on x date and they have till then to arrange alternative accommodation.

If you own your place, charge them sufficient rent for you to afford to rent elsewhere, and make it clear that they're responsible for bills.

YANBU!

What's your situation? Do you rent or pay a mortgage? Why can't they move out?

How old are they? Are they saving for deposits etc

Why are they pestering you all the time. Don't they have jobs or college courses. How many have you got? Am assuming they can't afford to move out.

Not enough detail to advise.

It’s your home, of course they should leave.
Do they not work?

What age are they? Why still at home? Why no peace?

Special needs and that is a drip feed, I’m sorry, it was unintentional. But there is no way moving out is possible for them. But I need some peace.

Are you meaning that you want to move out permanently, or rent somewhere to work during the day? Some places offer desk-space to rent. Or studio space if it's art-related.

I understand completely....I spend far to much time in costa for the same reason...I've found places to go where I can have some peace..it's difficult x

Ah ok, fair enough. In that case do what you need to do.

If they can’t move out how wouldn’t they cope without you?
Any chance of a garden office or other space set aside to work? Somewhere that is out of bounds for anyone but you?

Is there any way you could get additional help in so you can have more of a break? Surely that's better for all involved rather than you actually moving out?

Get them out ffs. They're old enough to look after themselves!

Surely if they can't move out and live alone then they can't live without you there. And how could you afford rent/mortgage on two properties.

Wolfiefan · 16/09/2018 15:44

Slimming. The kids have additional needs and can’t move out. Confused

If you can afford to then do it. Will they be okay alone? Somewhere quiet and just for you might make everything a lot better instantly

I didn't see that bit. Only just saw it now @Wolfiefan

If you would rent somewhere, can you rent them a flat to share and stay in your home?

Could you rent a serviced office to work in? Cheaper than a place to live. Especially if you find another professional to share with.

Is supported housing not an option? Would SS be able to suggest any adjustments or living spaces? I know things like respite are like hens teeth nowadays. Sad

Would it be cheaper to book yourself into a premier inn occasionally? I worry about this when my SN DS leaves school.

Could you get a posh shed/summer house? That’s my dream to escape the kids!

What's the difference between them moving out or you moving out? Either way they are on their own, so who looks after their additional needs if you're not there?

Report
HollowTalk · 16/09/2018 15:53

You can rent space really cheaply nowadays, if you just want somewhere to go out to work. Whereabouts are you?
